Chapter 91 postscript

second handshake 张扬 1579Words 2018-03-18
I wrote at the end of the "Postscript" of the first edition in July 1979: This work is not well written, "I hope that in the years to come, if I have the opportunity, I will write this rough The work has been modified to be a little more perfect." This is the truth. Therefore, although many publishers contacted me in the following twenty-seven years, expressing plans or expectations for reprinting, republishing, or including various "libraries", I declined all of them. The reason is that it is not well written.Every time I say "let's talk about it when the new version is written".

Fortunately, fate gave me "still a chance".If we count from collecting and researching materials, it may have been twenty years; and the actual writing started from October 29, 2003, to March 21, 2006, which lasted two years. Years and five months; now, this "new version" is presented to everyone.Twenty-seven years is a long enough time, and much has been lost, and much has been forgotten; but the criticisms of a few of the two or three thousand enthusiastic letters from readers at that time have remained with me.This time it has been corrected in the new version. The new version will definitely have many shortcomings and defects, and there will be "flaws"; I still look forward to readers' criticisms and corrections, and I plan to make corrections when it is reprinted or republished.

However, some writing methods in this book are not "flawed".For example, in the early 1980s, a film journal with a huge circulation published a "letter" signed by "a group of Chinese scholars studying in the United States" and titled "The Movie "The Second Handshake" was released in the United States and caused roars of laughter". Many newspapers competed to reproduce it. The primary reason for the "loud laughter" is that as far as this group of "Chinese scholars studying in the United States" knows, "the United States developed the first atomic bomb in the 'Manhattan Project', and no Chinese participated"—even if no Chinese participated Well, this is worth "laughing"?

A few years later, in the mid-to-late 1980s, a famous physicist who participated in the theoretical design of new China's nuclear weapons published an article saying that it was rich in color and had a great impact. Unfortunately, the major events in the work did not conform to historical facts at all. For example, Ding Jieqiong once Participated in the development of the first atomic bomb in the United States, but in fact no Chinese participated in the project and so on. A few years later, in the early 1990s, the translation by Yoshiro Katayama, a friendly Japanese person, was repeatedly rejected by Japanese publishers. There is no such thing in the world-the above, the repeated "first" is inaccurate, it should be called "the first batch" of atomic bombs. The first batch of three atomic bombs, one for testing and two for bombing Japan.

I took American Thomas Sowell's book "The National Problem in America" about "a Chinese-American female physicist (should be a 'Chinese female physicist who studied in the United States') participated in the development of the first atomic bomb in the United States." The Manhattan Project'" material was sent to Katayama Yoshiro, and he wrote in the cover letter: "Japanese publishers still will not publish a Japanese translation. This is not a matter of historical facts, but a matter of 'emotions'. Because the atomic bombs on Japanese heads In fact, it became a 'great shame' for some Japanese and hurt their 'national feelings'. And they never thought about what heinous crimes they committed against the Chinese people, the people of Asia and the people of the world!"

From the Japanese to many Chinese, especially those upper-class Chinese, they don't know or believe that there is a Chinese female scientist who has made contributions to the "Manhattan Project". This makes me think deeply and makes me feel sad.In fact, long before I saw the materials in the book of American Thomas Sowell in 1984, that is, when I first arrived in Beijing in February 1963, while learning the original materials, I passed A very special channel learned the fact that a Chinese female physicist studying in the United States participated in the "Manhattan Project" - without her, there would be no "Ding Jieqiong" later, and no one who was later called "influenced a generation".

In December 1996, when I met Academician He Zehui, a famous physicist, in Beijing, Academician Li Tibei who came with her asked me: "I read the manuscript back then, and it was written in the book that the mission of the Gaoshan Station in Yunnan I was amazed! I worked there for ten years. I thought, who wrote this book? At that time, very few people even in the physics world knew about the Alpine Station..." Whether it is Ding Jieqiong or Gaoshanzhan, many characters and historical facts that are involved in this book and not involved, as long as you are interested and emotional, you can learn, create, and sublimate. The key is that for any Chinese writer or even for any Chinese, one must not belittle oneself, belittle one’s self, and be full of trust and love for the infinite wisdom of our nation!

Academician Wu Jieping, a famous medical scientist, testified to me the historical facts of "Old Concorde" with detailed materials.Academician Li Tibei and Professor Huo Anxiang from the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences looked back enthusiastically at the Yunnan Gaoshan Station.Comrade Ling Jun from Shandong Writers Association provided a lot of historical and geographical materials about Jinan. There are other units and friends who have cared about and helped the writing of this book, and I am grateful to them.
