Chapter 59 fox and rabbit
There is a Zen story that goes like this, a Zen master was out with his disciples and saw a fox chasing a rabbit.
"According to ancient legends, most sober rabbits can escape foxes, so can this one." Master said. "Impossible!" the disciple replied, "The fox runs faster than the rabbit!" "But the rabbit will be able to avoid the fox!" The master still insisted on his opinion. "Master, why are you so sure?" "Because the fox is chasing its dinner, and the rabbit is running for its life!" Master said.
It's a pity that most people's life is like a fox chasing a rabbit, so that they give up their dinner when they are exhausted in middle age. Rabbit is frustrated. The attitude of a practitioner should not be a fox chasing a rabbit, but a rabbit running for its life. You have to put your whole body and mind into it and run forward, otherwise, if you don't pay attention, you will die in the fox's mouth.
Between the "dots" and "dots" of life, it is as fast as thunder, without any gap, and there is no room for thinking, just like a rabbit running for its life. Whenever I think of this Zen story, I think: If the rabbit can escape the fox Mouth, when you are breathing, you must be able to see the true meaning of life!
