Chapter 64 human bone rosary

on the cloud 林清玄 3258Words 2018-03-18
The sun was slanting in from the window, hitting a string of rosary beads in the hands of the mage. The rosary beads looked like extremely ancient jade, full of a kind of warm light in the sun. Each rosary is oblate, but not very round, and the size is not exactly the same, and each rosary is black and white, so it is a jade rosary!Maybe it was originally white, but part of the color has changed due to the erosion of the years, I thought so in my heart. But why is it irregular? Is it because the jade craftsmen are not skilled enough, or what is the reason? Some doubts in my heart made me feel an unknown mystery when I looked at the string of rosary beads.

"I want to know what kind of rosary this is, don't you?" The mage seemed to know what I was thinking, and looked at me with kind eyes. I nod. "This is a human bone rosary," said the mage. "The human bone rosary is a unique rosary of Tantric Buddhism. There are many magical instruments in Tantric Buddhism that are made of human bones." "If you don't use good rosary beads, why use human bones as rosary beads?" The master smiled and explained that the bones of ordinary people cannot be used to make rosary beads, or they are not qualified to make rosary beads. In Xiluo, only the bones of lamas can be used to make rosary beads.

"Of course, the human bone rosary is more extraordinary than ordinary rosary. Using human bone as rosary can make people feel the rapidity of impermanence. No matter how good the practice is, the lama's body will eventually decay and eventually die. Don't be lazy when counting the beads." "In addition, the human bone rosary is made of the bones of eminent monks, and it has the power to subdue evil spirits. Especially when doing the ritual of saving the dead, the human bone rosary has incredible power to save the dead and bring peace to the living. .” ... While talking, the mage handed me the human bone rosary in his hand, and I held the rosary with both hands, only to realize that the rosary, which looks like jade, is extremely heavy, as heavy as gold.

I gently stroked the rough surface of the rosary, as if I could touch the soft and delicate texture inside.I could see that the bone rosary was hand ground, because it still had file marks on its surface in many places, although the file marks had lost their sharp angles due to rubbing.Carefully counted the rosary beads, no more, no less, exactly one hundred and ten, threaded with a thin and tough red thread. Holding the rosary beads of human bones has a strange feeling, as if holding a string of legends. In a distant place, at an unknown time, some lamas dedicated their remains and brought them together through an immeasurable journey. A carefully crafted rosary.Thinking about it this way, there are already many uncountable causes and conditions in it.The most important cause and condition is that it has passed to my hands at this time and here, as if I can feel the warm life in the rosary.

The mage saw me meditating on the rosary, and couldn't help arousing his interest. He said, "Let me tell you the origin of this rosary!" It turns out that there is a custom of celestial burial in Tibet. After death, people donate their bodies for the food of birds, beasts, insects and ants. This is called celestial burial. Many lamas made a wish during their lifetime to dedicate the leftover bones of birds, beasts, insects and ants after the sky burial as magic weapons. The human bone rosary is made of the remains of a lama. Usually, only two parts of the bone can be used as a rosary, one is the finger bone, and the other is the eyebrow bone (the bone in the middle of the eyebrow).

Why only take the bones from these two places? Because the bones in these two places are most related to practice, the eyebrow bone is the entrance and exit of visualization, and it is also the place where the heart is placed. The achievements of the practitioner's life are all in this place. The finger bones are usually used for law enforcement, counting beads, doing rituals, and making mudras, and they are also the key to practice. "Speaking of which, the brow bone and finger bone are the most commonly used places for practitioners." The mage stood up while speaking, and took another string of human bone rosary beads from the Buddha table. There is a big difference. He said: "This is the rosary of the finger bone. Cut the bone of the finger into several sections and pass it through with a thread. Generally speaking, it is easier to obtain the rosary of the finger bone, because there are more fingers, and several people can do it." A string of rosary beads has been made. The rosary beads on the brow bones are a hundred times more difficult. Like the string in your hand, it is the brow bones of one hundred and ten lamas!

"Usually, the lama's skull is taken back, the skull is opened, inlaid with gold and silver, and used as a vessel for offering to the Tathagata Bodhisattva. Then, the brow bone is removed. This pile of bones is extremely hard and has an irregular shape when it is removed. , It takes a long time to ponder. In lama temples, there are generally lamas who wish to contemplate human bone rosaries. They use the brow bone to grind it on the stone, and each time they grind it, they recite a mantra or Buddha name, and one brow bone is ground into a circle. It may take tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of heart mantras or Buddha names to recite the human-shaped rosary, so it is natural that the human bone rosary has incredible power." When the mage said this, there was an infinite solemnity on his face, that kind of His expression was as if the Buddha's name and heart mantra gathered in the rosary when he was pondering suddenly surged out, and then he said in a more cautious tone:

"Not only that, after grinding the brow bone of a lama, it will be stored in a treasure chest. When the second lama passes away, it will be ground into a rosary in the same way. Sometimes, the lama who grinds the rosary will not be able to grind a string of eyebrows in his life. He died, and another lama took over his work, grinding his brow bone into a rosary and putting it in the treasure chest..." The mage suddenly broke off his tone when he said this, and let out a silent exclamation. Said: "It is very difficult to obtain such a string of human bone rosary beads. It took a long time to gather the eyebrow bones of one hundred and ten lamas, and the number of Buddha's mantras recited in them when grinding the rosary beads is even more innumerable. It's amazing!"

Holding up the human bone rosary again, I felt my heart surge, my chest felt hot, and I felt the warmth flowing from the mouth of the desert in the north.I suddenly remembered the first time I held a vajra made of a lama's thigh bone in the past, and the turmoil in my heart was the same as now. The vajra was used to subdue all demons and heretics, so that evil spirits would not invade; ignorance, revealing the wisdom of pure eyesight. They were all part of the body of an eminent monk, and let us see the humbleness and insignificance of ourselves. The human bone rosary beads in my hand are even more difficult to come by now, because Tibet is far away, and a string of human bone rosary beads has to fly across the Chongyangguan Mountains and travel several places before arriving here.Practitioners in Tibet, each of the rosary beads produced by their brow bones is a legend, a vow, and a petal that refuses to wither in time.

I once heard a beautiful legend about a Tibetan lama: In a siege, when a soldier was about to kill an old lama with a gun, the lama said to the soldier, "Can you wait a moment?" "Sooner or later you will die, why wait?" said the soldier. Before he could finish his words, the lama had already soared into the air, flew up several feet, and fell down again in an instant. When he landed, he was sitting cross-legged. There was still a teardrop in the corner of his eye. Why did the Lama sit down instantly? It turns out that according to Buddhist scriptures, anyone who kills an arhat and sheds the blood of the Buddha will fall into the endless hell. This lama is sympathetic to the soldier who wants to kill him. In order to prevent him from creating bad karma, he would rather end his life early. The tears in the corner of the eyes are the most beautiful dewdrops on the lotus.

I remember the first time I heard this story, I almost shed tears, and the deepest corner of my heart was touched by something unspeakable.Later, every time, every time I met a hateful person or something to get angry, the figure of a lama would immediately float up from that corner, and there was infinite compassion in that figure, which was more profound and moving than all my anger and hatred . "Can you wait a moment?" This sentence is full of compassion, without resentment or anger at all. You repeat it lightly, in an extremely calm and soft tone that makes you cry when you think of Si Jingsi. In this world, what else is there to be angry about? Is there anyone else to hate in this world? As long as we also become a pure lotus, with the crystal dew of compassion hanging from time to time, then what kind of mud can pollute me? In terms of emptiness and reality, people can be lotus flowers. The "Lotus Sutra" says: "What the Buddha said is like a big cloud, which moistens people with a single taste of rain." "Nirvana Sutra" says: " A man is a husband, a man is a lotus, Fendolihua (that is, a white lotus).” It is also said in "The Collection of Rebirth": "The heart of the Tathagata is like a red lotus." A person is the most beautiful lotus, more beautiful than any other flower!According to the Buddhist scriptures, when people are reborn in the Western Pure Land, they are reborn in the nine-rank lotus. For us, the Western Pure Land is so far away, but sometimes, there are certain special times, we feel compassion for those who are in pain, distressed, selfish, infatuated, ignorant, and full of hatred, Even to the bully and the bullied, the indulgent and the indulgent, the greedy and the dissatisfied, and the imperfect actions of every imperfect person... Because of this compassion, our hearts are drawn to some distressing places , At that time, our lotus blossomed. The lotus does not have to be in the pure land, but also in the humble, wet and muddy world. The dew, like tears, does not necessarily flow for compassion, sometimes it is the light of wisdom, and sometimes it is just to reflect your own purity! In the extremely quiet night, when I sat alone on the futon and didn’t look at myself, I felt like I had turned into a lotus flower. The root absorbed the soft clear water, the stem climbed up the spine, and when it reached the top of my head, it suddenly opened up in all directions. Dew often surges in the throat, refreshing and tranquil, and often, the tears of compassion on the petals flow on the eyebrows. My lotus, often, always, blooms upwards, blooms upwards, and blooms in a high and boundless place. What is the difference between the tear in the corner of the lama's eye and the tear in my heart? The lama said: "Can you wait a moment?" My tears flowed in front of him. In the string of human bone rosary beads in my hand, is there one, or how many of them were left by such a lama? I respectfully returned the human bone rosary to the mage, and the mage said, "Do you want to take a string back as an offering?" I shook my head silently. I think it is enough to know the story of the human bone rosary, please go home, but I don’t know how to count it. Saying goodbye to the master, the dusk is really beautiful. A huge orange-red sunset slowly falls on the distant mountain, shaped like a human bone rosary. It is full and white as snow milk." "What is Bodhi? It means knowing one's own mind as it really is." To know one's mind as it really is is the lotus flower! It is Prajna, it is a lamp for all the lost! If human beings are really lotus flowers, the human bone rosary is the most beautiful garland. Only the purest people are qualified to hang it around their necks, and only the most merciful people are worthy of it.
