Southbound Miscellaneous Notes A few days ago, when I went back to the south, I wrote a letter in "Tianjin Maru", which was published in this "Cao".Later, when I returned to the north, I wrote another article on "Tianjin Maru" and threw it into the mailbox at Tianjin East Railway Station. But until now, it has been a month, and it has not been sent, and I am afraid it will never be sent.I don't dare to blame the post office at all, in this day and age; I only blame myself for being too lazy. I'm going back to Peiping anyway, why didn't I bring it to the editor myself, but it was a waste of four cents. Or is it a letter written by one's own hand?

I am now in despair about that letter, so I feel strange about the word "communication" and write this "Miscellaneous Notes".That letter seemed to say something about "Tianjin Pills" In the middle of the matter, here is the time to talk about Qingdao. I came and went through Qingdao twice.Although the boat stopped for a short time, it was not too much, so we only saw a corner of Qingdao; and we went ashore during the day, and never saw the night of Qingdao. People came here from Shanghai specially to dance. The reason why Qingdao is good is that it is in the sea and the mountains on the sea.Qingdao is good in summer, living on the beach in summer; anything on the beach that looks like a big arm is more or less interesting. And on that wrist, there is a "Qingdao Coffee".This is a rectangular flat house, which is not unusual at all, but it is not a few steps away from the sea, which makes you feel happy when you sit.Fortunately, this room does not look like a "house". It may be more appropriate to say that it is a large terrace. There are half slabs on three sides, so it feels like a vast sea and sky.A row is full of bamboo curtains. These curtains are not lonely when they are rolled up, but it is better to leave them open, especially during the day, I think. The sea and mountains separated by the bamboo curtain have a somewhat hazy smell; in the summer sun, only looking at it like this can feel the coolest.Naturally, dusk and moonlight should have different realms, but unfortunately we are not blessed.Sitting here and talking, we often heard the sound of sea waves hitting the beach, and sometimes we just listened quietly, smoking cigarettes, and staring at the curling smoke.Thank you Mr. C, his eyesight is not bad, it was the first time he introduced this good place to me. Mr. C also said that the waiters there were very nice, not as polite as in Peking, and not as rude as in Shanghai. But Mr. C is probably an acquainted customer and a native of Shandong. When we went there for the second time, the set of benefits he said was not fully reflected.

Since I was a child, I heard people read the two proverbs "the river has no bottom, and the sea has no bounds". Later, I read some descriptions of the sea in poems and essays; "Ouch".Who knows not!I have been on the ocean liner ten times in the south and the north, but I have never discovered the greatness of the sea. I just feel monotonous and boring, even when there are waves. But one night, the full moon shone on the sea on one side of the boat, and the sea water was black and white. We watched the lively waves beside the boat in the narrow white light, and we couldn't forget that. And that night was really good! After returning to Qingdao these two days, I seem to like the sea a little bit.But I also like the mountain I am holding, the big arm I am holding, and "Qingdao coffee". After all, the sea is limited. The only benefit that the sea has given me is sea bathing, which is the first time for me.

When I went to Qingdao, the boat stopped at five o'clock.I asked Mr. C, "How about the Huiquan (sea bathing place)?" He said, "Look at the 'light buttocks'? It's no fun to go there in a coat!" When he came out of "Qingdao Coffee", he took out his watch, Said: "Keep the bare buttocks for you and come back to see." But I really want to take a sea bath.I didn't wash it until I got back.Mr. S and I went down together. Mr. W was a little afraid of this thing, so he sat and drank soda in the restaurant. Mr. S can swim farther, but I can only practice a few times in shallow places.Sea water is most suitable for beginners to swim, as it is much easier to float.Another great beauty is the waves.Waves are strength, and I staggered several times while standing; one time when I was floating, it rushed towards me without knowing it, and I was surprised, at a loss for a moment, before standing up.It's ridiculous, but it's really exciting afterwards! Many foreign children were buried by the billowing white flowers when the waves came, and then they smiled and swam forward with their heads raised; they seemed to be good friends with the waves. We stayed in the water for about half an hour, and Mr. S and I said, "Go up, I'm afraid W will fall asleep." We lay down on the beach. Mr. C once told me that lying on his back on the beach after bathing, looking at the blue sky and white clouds, he would not want to think about anything. The sand is soft and fine, and it is really good to lie down on. Unfortunately, it was not good when we went, the sun was directly above our heads, and we couldn't see the blue sky and white clouds, so we just tried it.

In addition to the sea, the advantage of Qingdao is the long and winding forest. The Germans really have "roots". The long forest is a long forest, which is only for sightseeing and is not allowed to build houses.Mr. C and I took the car and turned left and right for 30 to 40 minutes. The driver said that we were only in the "First Park". Mr. C said, "It's long!" But we finally came out in a hurry. These forests are stretched, curved, low, and dense; what's more, the road follows the mountains, pitching up and down from time to time, which is very different from the "flat as a stone, straight as an arrow" that we often walk. Most of the roads in Qingdao are like this; this and the road rule of "going to the 'right'" were my first fresh impressions when I first arrived in Qingdao.

Mr. C said that the house on Fushan Road has the most beautiful architectural arrangements, but I have not been able to pass it twice. As for Laoshan, there are more scenic spots, but I didn't have to go there; he just showed me the pointed peaks of Laoshan. Now that I think about it, I feel like "the mountain is in the void". night of september thirteenth (Originally published in Issue 20 of "Camel Grass" on September 22, 1930)
