lace literature Family photo for the 53rd birthday (1933) Group photo with George Bernard Shaw and others (1933) Books for Qu Qiubai Some articles published in "Free Talk" and "Trends" pseudo free book This book contains forty-three essays written by the author between January and May 1933, and was published by Shanghai Beixin Bookstore under the name Qingguang Bookstore in October 1933.In November 1936, Shanghai Lianhua Book Company changed its name to "No Three No Four Episodes" and published a version. All subsequent editions are identical to the first edition.

Preface This small book contains mixed feelings about "Free Talk" that were sent to "Shenbao" [1] from the end of January to mid-May of this year. After I arrived in Shanghai, I read the daily, but never contributed to it, never thought about it, and never paid attention to the literature and art column of the daily, so I don’t know when “Shenbao” started to publish “Free Talk”. What kind of text is in "Free Talk".Around the end of last year, I ran into Mr. Yu Dafu[2] by chance, and he told me that the editor of Free Talk had been replaced by Mr. Li Liewen[3]. Manuscript, ask me to submit a few times.I responded casually and said: That is possible.

For Mr. Duff's instructions, I often "responded casually: that's okay".To put it bluntly, I have always avoided the characters in the Creation Society [4].This is not only because of their special attacks on me, but even personal attacks, most of which fall on their "creative" faces.Although some of them later turned into hermits, some rich men, some practical revolutionaries, and some spies, when under the banner of "creation", they always It is full of air, as if even sweating and sneezing are all "creations".Mr. Duff and I met the first time, and there was no such creative spirit on his face, so when we met, we talked casually; I am afraid that we may not agree on literature, but what we talked about was mostly empty words. But this is how we are familiar. Sometimes I ask him to write an article, and he will definitely send it as scheduled. If he wants me to make something, of course I should respond casually. But as for "Man", I'm already much lazy.

But since then I've been looking at Free Talk, but I still haven't submitted an article. Not long after, I heard a rumor that the editor of "Free Talk" was busy with work, and even had no time to take care of his wife's childbirth. She was sent to the hospital and she died alone.A few days later, I came across an article in "Free Talk" [5], which said that the baby should be shown the photos of the deceased every day to let him know that there was such a mother who gave birth to him.I immediately realized that this was the work of Mr. Li Liewen, picked up the pen, and wanted to write an article against it, because my opinion has always been that if you have a loving mother, you are happy, but if you lose your mother, it is not completely unfortunate. , he may have become a braver and more harmless man.But I didn’t finish it, and I changed it to contribute to “Free Talk”, which is the first article in this book, “Chongshi”[6]; and because my old pseudonym was sometimes not interchangeable, I changed the title "He Jiagan" is sometimes used as "gan" or "Ding Meng".

Some of these short comments are based on personal feelings, and some are based on current events, but the meaning is very common, and the words are often very obscure. I know that "Free Talk" is not a fanzine, and "freedom" is of course just an irony , I never want to gallop on this. The reason why I contribute is for the friendship of my friends, and to shout out to the lonely, and it is also because of my old temper. However, my disadvantage is that I don't save face when discussing current affairs, and I often take the type of criticism, and the latter is especially out of date. Those who overwrite the type are bad, just like a pathological picture, if it is a sore, then this picture is all the specimens of a certain sore, or it is somewhat similar to the sore of a certain person, or somewhat similar to the sore of a certain person .But those who see it don't notice, thinking that the painting is just the sores of his armor, which is an unwarranted insult, so they will definitely want to kill your painter. For example, what I said earlier about lap dogs originally had no real meaning, and they were all admitted by people who felt that they had a lap dog.The way to kill this is to ask the author which one it is regardless of the merits of the article; that is, to ignore everything else, and only to attack the author personally.Naturally, not all of them are angry patients, but some of them are chivalrous men who fight against injustice. In a word, this kind of tactic was started by Professor Chen Yuan's "Lu Xun is the minister of the Ministry of Education, Zhou Shuren". Ten years later, everyone has long since forgotten it. Mr. Zhou Muzhai [9] revealed later that he was writing articles about the author himself, or implicating left-wing literary scholars. In addition, there are several articles that I have seen, and they are all attached to my article, so as to see what kind of writing wars some so-called writers in Shanghai are, and how they have anything to do with my short commentary itself. But there are a few other articles, because my feelings arise from this, and they are specially kept together for readers' reference.

I contributed an average of eight or nine articles per month, but by the beginning of May, I couldn't publish them one after another. I think this was because I kept tabs on current events at the time, but my writings often involved current events.Whether the official censor or the editor-in-chief of the newspaper is banned, I don't know, and I don't need to know. All of those things are included in this book now. In fact, what I accused has been proved by the facts. I only said it a few days earlier. It is for sequence. On the night of July 19, 1933, at the apartment in Shanghai, recorded by Lu Xun.

[1] "Shenbao" is the oldest daily newspaper in old China.Founded by a British businessman in Shanghai on April 30, 1872 (March 23, the eleventh year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty), it was bought by the comprador Xi Yufu in 1909 and transferred to Shi Yufu in 1912. Due to his talents, Shi took over the next year. After the September 18th Incident and the January 28th Incident, it once reflected the anti-Japanese demands of the national bourgeoisie. After Shi Liangcai was assassinated by the Kuomintang in November 1934, the newspaper became more conservative.Publication ceased when Shanghai was liberated on May 26, 1949. "Free Talk" is one of the newspaper's supplements. It was launched on August 24, 1911. It originally published works of the Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School. Since December 1932, the content has been reformed for a while. Essays and short reviews written by progressive writers are often published. [2] Yu Dafu (1896-1945) was born in Fuyang, Zhejiang, and a writer. One of the main members of the Creation Society. In 1928, he co-edited the monthly magazine with Lu Xun.She is the author of a collection of short stories "Sinking", a novella "She Is a Weak Woman", and a collection of travel essays "Clogs Are Everywhere". [3] Li Liewen (1904-1972) was born in Xiangtan, Hunan, and was a translator. In December 1932, he served as the editor of "Shenzhen Free Talk" and resigned in May 1934. 〔4〕Creation Society, a well-known literary group in the New Literature Movement, was established between 1920 and 1921. Its main members include Guo Moruo, Yu Dafu, Cheng Fangwu, etc.Its initial literary tendency was romanticism, with anti-imperialist and anti-feudal overtones.During the first Civil Revolutionary War, Guo Moruo, Cheng Fangwu and others successively participated in the actual work of the revolution. In 1927, the agency advocated the proletarian revolutionary literature movement, and at the same time added Feng Naichao, Peng Kang, Li Chuli and other new members who had returned from abroad. In 1928, the criticism of Lu Xun by the Creation Society and the Sun Society, which advocated proletarian literature, and Lu Xun's rebuttals to them formed a debate centered on the issue of revolutionary literature. In February 1929, the agency was closed by the Kuomintang reactionaries. It has edited and published (quarterly), "Creation Weekly", "Creation Day", "Flood", "Creation Monthly", "Cultural Criticism" and other publications, as well as "Creation Series". [5] Refers to Li Liewen's "Writing to a Man in Another World".It is an article in memory of his deceased wife, published in "Freedom Talk" on January 25, 1933, and later included in his collection of essays "Noble Motherhood".

[6] The author's first article published in "Free Talk" was "The Rationalization of "Escape"", which was changed to "The Defense of Escape" when it was included in this book. 〔7〕Chen Yuan (1896-1970), courtesy name Tongbo and pen name Xiying, was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, and was an important member of the Modern Criticism School. He used to be a professor at Peking University and Wuhan University. "Lu Xun is Zhou Shuren, the minister of the Ministry of Education," Chen Yuan said in "Zhi Zhimo" published in the "Morning News Supplement" on January 30, 1926.

〔8〕Wang Pingling (1898-1964) was born in Liyang, Jiangsu Province, and was an imperial literati of the Kuomintang. The "reporting" mentioned here, see the appendix "The Most Comprehensible" Literature and Art in "Two Different Kinds of Understanding". [9] Zhou Muzhai (1910-1941) was born in Wujin, Jiangsu, and was engaged in editing and writing in Shanghai at that time. The "disclosure" mentioned here can be found in the appendix "The Fourth Type of People" of "The Literati Without Literature".
