Chapter 22 With Inspiration Record 56

hot air 鲁迅 1173Words 2018-03-18
Recently I often hear people say, "Radicalism [2] is coming"; newspapers often write, "Radicalism is coming". So people with a few pennies are very unhappy.Officials are also busy, to guard against Chinese laborers [3], and to pay attention to Russians; even the police department has issued official orders to their subordinates to strictly investigate "whether there is an agency established by an extremist party". It's no wonder that you are busy, and it's no wonder that you are strictly investigating; but first ask: What is radicalism? This is because they didn’t explain it, and I have no way of knowing. Although I don’t know, I dare to say a word: “Radicalism” will not come, so don’t be afraid of him; only “coming” will come, and you should be afraid of it.

We Chinese must not be attracted by the doctrine of foreign goods, and have the power to obliterate him and destroy him.Military-nationalism, why would we fight against others; non-resistanceism, but we took part in the main battle[4]; Our bodies can still be bought and sold. So no matter what kind of doctrine, it can't disturb China at all; the disturbance from ancient times to the present is not heard of because of any doctrine. To cite the present example, the announcements of the academic circles in Shaanxi[5] and the disaster victims in Hunan[6] are terrible. Compared with the harsh conditions of the German soldiers announced in Belgium, and the brutal conditions of the Lenin government announced by other parties in Russia, they are so terrible. It was a world of peace.Germany still called it militarism, and Lenin, needless to say, was radicalism!

This is "coming".If it is doctrine that comes, then it will come when the doctrine is achieved; if it is simply "coming", it will never end, it will never end, and it is impossible to know how it will come. When the Republic of China was founded, I lived in a small county where the white flag had already been hung. One day, I suddenly saw many men and women fleeing in disorder: those in the city fled to the countryside, and those in the countryside fled into the city.Asked what was the matter, they replied, "They said they were coming." It can be seen that everyone is only afraid of "coming", just like me.At that time there was only "majoritarianism" [7], not "radicalism".

KK [1] This article was originally published in the fifth issue of the sixth volume of "New Youth" in May 1919, signed by Tang Qi. 〔2〕 "Excessive Liyi" Japanese bourgeoisie's slanderous translation of Bolshevism; at that time, Chinese reactionaries also used this term to carry out anti-communist propaganda. 〔3〕Huagong During the First World War, the Beiyang government sent more than 200,000 people to participate in the war between the Allies and the Allies. In fact, they were only engaged in labor such as road construction and transportation, so they were called Huagong. After the October Revolution, in order to prevent Chinese laborers residing in Russia from returning to China to spread revolutionary ideas, the Beiyang government of China decided to send telegrams to border officials in Northeast China, Mongolia, Xinjiang and other places to strictly inspect and prevent them.

〔4〕Participating in the main battle In the late period of the First World War, Japan, the Allied Powers, invited China to participate in the war in order to tighten its control over China; Duan Qirui's Beiyang government attempted to use the name of participating in the war in exchange for assistance from Japanese imperialism and support to maintain its reactionary rule.On August 14, 1917, the Chinese government declared war on Germany. 〔5〕Announcements from the academic circles in Shaanxi refer to the "Pain from the Qin Dynasty" written by the Shaanxi Student Union in Beijing in March 1919 against the Shaanxi warlord Chen Shufan for his atrocities of allowing soldiers and bandits to kill innocent people. Exposing corpses to the scorching sun, cool hanging, wearing meat bracelets, cooking human flesh, etc. (See Beijing Morning Post, April 1, 1919)

〔6〕The bulletin of the disaster victims in Hunan refers to the "Blood and Tears of the People of Hunan", which was sued by the people of Hunan in January 1919 against Zhang Jingyao's tyrannical rule, which listed Zhang Jingyao's crimes of rape, looting, and massacre of innocent people. (See Shanghai Times, January 6, 1919.) [7] "Majority" here simply means a large number of people, which is different from "Bolshevism (majority)".See the book "Record Thirty-eight Sui Gan".
