Chapter 12 my first master

I don't remember which old book I read it from, but to the effect that there was a Daoist master, who was naturally a celebrity, who devoted his life to upholding Buddhism, but named his youngest son a "monk".One day, someone questioned him about this matter. He replied: "This is a sign of contempt!" The man had nothing to say and retreated [2]. In fact, this Taoist gentleman is a sophistry.Calling a child a "monk" contains superstition. There are many ghosts and ghosts in China, they only like to kill promising people, especially children;People like monks, from the point of view of monks, will become Buddhas—but not necessarily—although they are very noble, but from the point of view of scholars, they have no family, no family, no ability to be an official, but It's a low class. The ghosts in the eyes of scholars, of course, have the same opinions as scholars, so they don't bother them. This has exactly the same meaning as calling a child a cat or a dog: easy to raise.

There is another way to avoid ghosts, which is to worship monks as teachers, which means giving them to the monastery, but they are not placed in the monastery.I was born in the Zhou family as the eldest son, "things are rare and precious", my father was afraid that I would be promising, so he didn't raise me up, and when I was less than one year old, I was taken to Changqing Temple and worshiped a monk as a teacher.I don't know at all whether it is necessary to show respect or give alms to a teacher.I only know that I got a legal name from this, "Chang Geng", which I also occasionally used as a pseudonym, and in the novel "On the Restaurant", I gave it to the scoundrel who threatened my niece; Family clothes, that is, "clothes", should be made of all kinds of rags, but mine are made of olive-shaped small silk pieces of various colors, and I don't wear them except for festive events; there is another one called " "Cow rope" things, hanging sporadic small items, such as calendars, mirrors, silver screens, etc., are said to be able to ward off evil spirits.

This arrangement seems to have some power: I have not died so far. However, the dharma name is still there, but the two magic weapons have long been lost. When I went back to Peiping a few years ago, my mother gave me a silver screen from when I was a baby, which was the only memory of that time.Looking carefully, it turned out that the diameter of the sieve was no more than an inch. There was a picture of Taiji in the center, a book on it, and a scroll of paintings on the bottom. Then I suddenly realized that the evil spirits in China are afraid of categorical and decisive things, and can't contain nonsense.Because of my research and curiosity, I went to a silver shop in Shanghai last year and finally bought two sides, which are almost the same as mine, but there are some changes in the small things on it.It's strange that after more than half a century, evil spirits still have the same temperament, and the magic weapon to ward off evil spirits is still the same. However, I also thought that this magic weapon cannot be used by adults, but it is very dangerous.

But it reminds me of the original Mr. half a century ago.I still don't know his Dharma name, no matter who he is, he is called "Master Long". He has a long and thin body, a long and thin face, high cheekbones and slender eyes. Monks should not have beards, but he has two drooping locks. beard. He is very kind to people, and he is also very kind to me. He doesn’t teach me to recite a single scripture, and doesn’t teach me any Buddhist rules. As for himself, he puts on cassocks to become a great monk, or puts on a Vairocana hat to burn flames[3], When "the lonely soul of Wusi, come to feel the nectar", he is extremely solemn, and he usually does not chant scriptures, because he is the abbot, and he only cares about trivial matters in the temple. A layman with shaved head.

So I have another teacher's wife, who is his wife.Logically, monks should not have wives, but he does.In the center of the main room of my house, there is a memorial tablet, on which five people who must be absolutely respected and obeyed are written in gold letters: "Heaven, Earth, Monarch, Parent, Teacher".I am an apprentice and he is a teacher, so I must not protest, and at that time, I never thought of protesting, but I thought it seemed a bit weird. But I love my teacher's wife very much. In my memory, when we met, she was about forty years old. She was a fat teacher's wife, wearing a black gauze shirt and trousers, in the yard of my home To enjoy the coolness, her children come to play with me.Sometimes there are fruits and snacks to eat——of course, this is also a big reason why I love her; in the words of Gao Jie’s Professor Chen Yuan, it is the so-called "If you have milk, you are a mother"[4]. is very insignificant. But my teacher's wife is a little unusual in her love story. "Love" is the current term, but our remote area was only called "friendship" at that time.Yun: "The style is good, and the appearance is special" [5], the origin can be considered very ancient, not long after the time of Wenwu Zhougong, but later it seems that it is not very high-sounding.Let alone it.In short, I heard that Master Long was a very beautiful and capable monk when he was young. He had a lot of contacts and knew all kinds of people. One day, there was a social opera in the countryside, and he met the actors, so he went on stage to beat the gongs for them. With his bare scalp and brand-new Haiqing[6], he was really in the limelight. The country people were probably a little stubborn, thinking that monks should only chant scriptures and worship, and some people scolded them in the audience. Not to be outdone, the master also scolded them back.So the war started, and the tops of sugar cane flew up like raindrops. Some warriors were still attacking. go.And there is only one young widow in this family.I don't know much about the later stories, but in short, she became my teacher's wife later on.

Since the publication of "Cosmic Wind", I have never had the opportunity to read it. I only saw "Spring Extra Large" in the past few days.Among them is Mr. Zhutang's "Don't Judge Heroes by Success or Failure" [7], which I find very interesting. He thinks that the Chinese people's "Don't Judge Heroes by Success or Failure" means that "ideals cannot be regarded as lofty", "however in the The organization of the crowd is really bad. To suppress the strong and support the weak is to never want to be strong. To worship failed heroes is to deny successful heroes.” "There is a popular saying in recent times that the Chinese nation is rich in assimilation power, so the Liao, Jin, Yuan and Qing capitals never conquered China. In fact, it is nothing more than a kind of inertia, and it is not easy to accept the new system."How do we get rid of this "inertia", let's not talk about it now, and there are many people who are thinking for us.I just want to say that the reason why the widow became my teacher's wife is that the shortcoming is "not judging a hero by success or failure".There is no living Yue Fei or Wen Tianxiang in the countryside, so a beautiful monk who escapes from the stage amidst the rain of sugarcane tips is a real failed hero. She could not help discovering the "inertia" passed down from her ancestors, and adored her. She "does not recognize successful heroes" for the pursuers, just like our ancestors did for the armies of the Liao, Jin, Yuan and Qing Dynasties. In history, this result was just as Mr. Zhutang said: "It is rare for Chinese society to be obedient without building prestige", so there should be "Ten Days in Yangzhou" and "Three Massacres in Jiading"[8].But the country people at that time didn't seem to have "established prestige" and separated. Of course, maybe they didn't expect to hide at home.

So I have three seniors and two juniors. The eldest brother was a child of a poor man, who was housed or sold in the monastery; the other four were all sons of the master, and the son of the great monk became a junior monk. I didn't think it was so strange at that time. The first senior brother is only single; the second senior brother also has a family, but he keeps a secret from me. This shows that his Taoism is far inferior to my master and his father. And the age difference is too far from me, we have almost no contact. The third senior brother is probably ten years older than me, but our relationship afterwards was very good, and I often worry about him.I still remember one time, when he was about to receive the Great Precepts, he didn’t read the scriptures much, and he might not have a deep understanding of Mahayana teachings[9], so he put two rows of moxa on the shaved fontanel and burned them at the same time. It is always painful. At this time, good men and women, most of them participate, it is really not elegant, and it also loses my dignity as a teacher and brother. How is this good?Every time I think of it, I feel very anxious, as if I was the one who was ordained. However, my master has profound powers. He didn't talk about the precepts or teaching principles. He just called my third senior brother early in the morning and said sharply: "Hold on hard, don't cry, don't scream, or else you will die." His head exploded, and he died!" This kind of loud shouting was more powerful than the "Miaofa Lotus Sutra" or "Mahayana Awakening of Faith" [10]. His eyes were waterier than usual, but when the two rows of moxa were burnt on the top of his head, he did not make a sound.I breathed a sigh of relief, the so-called "as if a heavy burden has been relieved", and all the faithful men and women also "put together the palms together to praise, rejoice in giving, bowed and parted" [11].

The monks received the great precepts and were promoted from novice monks to monks, which is the same as our lay people who went through crown ceremony[12] and went from boys to adults.Adults are willing to "have room", and monks naturally have to think of women.Thinking that monks only remember Sakyamuni or Maitreya Bodhisattva[13] is a secular fallacy that has never worshiped monks as teachers or made friends with monks. There are also monks who are practicing in the monastery, do not have women, and do not eat meat. For example, my elder brother is one of them. However, they are withdrawn, cold, look down on others, and seem to be always depressed. If you touch this book, he will not be happy, making people afraid to get close to him.So all I know are monks who have women, or declare that they want women, eat meat, or declare that they want to eat meat.

At that time, I was not surprised that the third senior brother was thinking about women, and I knew what kind of woman he idealized.People may think that they are thinking of nuns, but they are not. It is even more inconvenient for monks and nuns to be "friends".What he was thinking of was Miss Qianjin or Young Mistress; and the medium of this "lovesickness" or "unrequited love"—the so-called "unrequited love" today—is the "knot".When there is a funeral in our rich family, there will always be some ceremonies every seven days. On one of the seven days, a ceremony of "untying knots" will be held, because the dead will always offend others before they die, He had a grievance, so he had to disband for him after his death. The method is that in the evening after worshiping the scriptures and repenting on this day, there are several dishes on display in front of the spirit, which are food and flowers, and one of them is made of twine or white-headed rope, with a dozen coins on it, and the two ends are joined together to form a butterfly. Complex knots such as the eight-knot formula and the eight-knot formula are not easy to untie.A group of monks sat around the table and sang and explained. After the unraveling, the money went to the monks, and all the grievances of the dead disappeared completely. This principle seems a bit weird, but it is not surprising that everyone does this, and it is probably a kind of "inertia".However, untie knots are not as the secular people speculate, they are untied one by one. If a monk thinks that the knots are delicately tied, they will love each other, or if they deliberately knot hard, it will be difficult to untie, so they will hate each other, then they can secretly untie the knot. Falling into the big sleeve of the monk's robe, let the dead leave grievances and go to hell to suffer. This kind of precious knot was brought back to the temple, and it was preserved and appreciated from time to time, just like our or unavoidable preference to read the works of female writers. When appreciating, of course, I can't help but think of the writer, who is the one who tied the knot, men can't, slaves can't, and those who have this kind of ability, needless to say, are young ladies or young mistresses.A monk is not as lofty as a figure in the literary world, so he can't help thinking about others when he sees things, and the so-called "time-related reverie". As for the psychological state, although I have worshiped the monk as a teacher, I am a layman after all, so I don't know the details.I just remember that the third senior brother gave me a few as a last resort. Some of them were beaten really well, and some were soaked in water after they were beaten, and they were smashed hard with scissor handles, so that the monks could not be dismissed.Untying knots is done for the dead, but now I am in trouble with the monk. I really don't know what the young lady or the young mistress mean.It was not until 20 years later, when I studied a little medicine, that I realized that it was for monks to suffer, and it was a bit of a pathology of abusing the opposite sex.The resentment in the deep boudoir will be reported to the monks in the Buddhist temple like a radio. I don't think Mr. Daoxue has expected this level.

Later, the third senior brother also had a wife, whether she was born as a young lady, a nun, or "Xiaojiabiyu".At this time, I also grew up, and I don’t know where I heard the old sayings that monks should abide by the rules, and I still used these words to laugh at him, with the intention of embarrassing him.Unexpectedly, he was not embarrassed at all, and immediately used the "vajra glaring"[14] style to shout at me: "The monk doesn't have a wife, where is the little Bodhisattva!?" This is really the so-called "lion's roar"[15], which made me understand the truth, and I was speechless. I had indeed seen a big Buddha more than ten feet long in the temple, and a small Bodhisattva a few feet or a few inches in the temple, but I never thought why they had size. After drinking this, I completely realized the need for a monk to have a wife, and the origin of all the little Bodhisattvas, and no doubts arose anymore. But it was a bit more difficult to find the third senior brother since then, because this monk now has three homes: one is the monastery, the other is his parents' home, and the third is his own and his wife's home.

My master passed away about forty years ago; most of my brothers have become abbots of a monastery; our friendship still exists, but we have not heard from each other for a long time. But I think, they must have had a large number of little Bodhisattvas, and some little Bodhisattvas have little Bodhisattvas. In August 1925, because Zhang Shizhao, the director-general of education of the Beiyang government, banned patriotic movements and promoted old-fashioned ideas, the Peking University Senate issued a declaration against him as the director-general of education, and announced that he would cooperate with the Ministry of Education. disassociated.Later, a small number of professors worried that there would be no funding after leaving the Ministry of Education. Some progressive professors wrote in an official letter to their colleagues in the school: "Since Zhang Shizhao took office, he has raised some funds for Peking University. Everyone in this school should know; Monthly payment, or repayment of outstanding debts... colleagues should also sacrifice their interests for justice, and maintain the dignity of the highest institution...
