Chapter 16 Epilogue

Epilogue Feng Zikai (1898-1975), formerly known as Fengrun, was born in Chongde, Zhejiang (now Tongxiang County). Feng Zikai is versatile. He is not only a famous painter, wood engraver, but also an accomplished essayist. He is also good at calligraphy and music. Feng Zikai's prose has a great influence in the history of new literature in our country.The main works include "Yuanyuantang Essays", "Yuanyuantang Rewriting", "Twenty Essays", "Sweet Memories", "Art Interest", "Frank and True Collection" and so on.Except for some art reviews, most of these works describe his own personal life and daily contacts.From his works, readers can learn about his rich life experience, see the colorful and complicated people and things he came into contact with, and feel his strong interest in life.It is really a kind of artistic enjoyment to savor it carefully.

This anthology titled "Contemplating Life" divides the selected works into twelve categories, and the title of the book and the title of each category are proposed by the editor.Each category of works is roughly arranged in chronological order of writing.This classification does not necessarily make sense, but it may be helpful to read and enjoy.The annotations in the book are partly based on various anthologies of Feng Zikai's prose published after liberation, and I would like to explain them here.
