Chapter 4 Chapter 4

At this time, the 1st, 6th, and 9th columns of the East China Field Army, the Luzhong Column, and the 11th Column of the Central Plains Field Army rushed all the way from the west of Xin'an Town along the south side of Longhai Road. The soldiers are divided into two groups, one intercepting and the other chasing. During the pursuit, the troops who were ordered to "stick" to the enemy in Xin'an Town all of a sudden rushed to nothing.Everyone in the East China Field Army Headquarters in Matou Town was tense, and everyone's hearts were lifted. The East China Field Army Command rushed to the camp.

Su Yu ordered the pursuit: "Wherever the enemy runs, we will chase them and destroy them there!" In an instant, cars roared and people shouted and neighed. On November 8, the headquarters of the 9th Column of the East China Field Army. The troops are ready to attack.Commanders at all levels are waiting for orders in the command post.Until noon, there was no telegram from Ye Si.The command post of the column kept receiving calls from various divisions, some of them asked the combat department, and they asked the commander of the column, Nie Fengzhi, to keep asking, "What's the change in the situation? Are you still going to fight?" At this time, Nie Fengzhi Also very anxious, kept walking up and down the room.He forced himself to calm down and told them: "Don't worry. The situation may change. Are you still afraid of going to war? You must continue to prepare and obey orders." Although he asked his subordinates not to worry, he didn't know what to do.According to the notification from the superior and the reconnaissance office, the 44th enemy army originally stationed in Haizhou has indeed withdrawn from Haizhou and is heading towards Xin'an Town. In the past few days, all stations of the Longhai Railway have been heavily guarded, with heavy military transportation, and the situation is abnormal.Nie Fengzhi was thinking wildly, what is the enemy up to?Should we shrink our troops to strengthen the frontal defense, or retreat to Xuzhou? After the Huang Baitao Corps was wiped out in the first stage of the planned campaign, the next step was to attack Haizhou or the two Huaihe Rivers. Now that the enemy in Haizhou has escaped, it seems that the possibility of fighting eastward is unlikely. If we want to fight, we must develop westward...

A rush of horseshoes approaching from far broke the brief silence of the command post, and the cavalry communicator hurried into the command post.It turned out that the commander of the reconnaissance battalion, Mu Sirong, sent a letter to report: the enemy's 44th Army had passed Xin'an Town, the 25th Army had withdrawn from the Ahu area, and the 64th Army had also withdrawn from Gaoliu, all heading west.Three of my scouts disguised as Kuomintang army officers and soldiers mixed into the enemy's internal reconnaissance. Because they took the blank letter of introduction from the enemy army seized in Jinan, a division commander of the enemy's 64th Army saw the flaw and was killed in the east of Xin'an Town.Xin'an Town is in chaos, and the 63rd Army also shows signs of fleeing...

It seems that the enemy has noticed my attack attempt and fled westward. If the enemy is not caught in time, the first step of the battle plan is in danger of being aborted! It is impossible for the East China Field Army Command and the Military Commission to not understand such a big change, or else, why didn't they issue the order to launch an attack on time!what to do?Thinking of this, Nie Fengzhi immediately reported the situation to the East China Field Army Headquarters and ordered the reconnaissance battalion to find out the enemy's whereabouts as soon as possible to the west. .The 27th division of the reserve team was ordered to set off on standby, ready to cross the Shu River and pursue westward.

Nie Fengzhi was 34 years old at the time, just in his prime, full of creative spirit, active and confident. He had just made arrangements and greeted his subordinate troops, and the pursuit order from the East China Field Army Command arrived. The superiors fully grasp the changes in the enemy's situation. Most of the enemy Huang Baitao's corps has withdrawn through the canal, and the corps headquarters has been transferred from Xin'an Town to Nianzhuang. The East China Field Army Headquarters reiterated the instructions of the Military Commission that it must continue to implement the first step of the campaign to annihilate Huang Baitao's corps, and ordered the columns that were originally responsible for the attack mission to immediately pursue westward according to the divided routes, so as not to let the enemy run away.

The column immediately gave the order to pursue.Since the first-line divisions have been basically deployed, it will take time to gather them together, and the 27th Division is ready for action, that is, the division is the vanguard, crossing the Longhai Railway in the south in the order of the 27th Division, 26th Division, Army Straight, and 25th Division, turning to West, cross the Shu River, and pursue westward fiercely. When my leading troops entered Xin'an Town, the people in Xin'an Town knew that the PLA was coming, and they all went out of their homes to bring hot water to the soldiers. While telling the soldiers about the crimes committed by Huang Baitao's corps, they sighed and said: "It would have been better if you had come earlier. Lao Guang (referring to the 63rd Army) walked for less than two hours." Because the troops moved quickly and were not afraid of fatigue, after nightfall The east bank of the Yihe River pursued and wiped out the enemy's 63rd Army's rear guard detachment. At the same time, it was found that there were two enemy regiments in Yantou Town. Our 27th Division immediately crossed the Yi River in different ways and surrounded Yantou Town in a roundabout way.

Huang Baitao drove the army to flee westward. The 25th Corps of Huang Baitao's Corps did not begin to cross the canal iron bridge until November 8 because it was covering the westward retreat of the 44th Army. Not too late to pass.Officers brandished pistols and shouted, so that troops of different formations fired at each other with small arms in order to cross the bridge first. Huang Baitao drove to the side of the canal. Sitting in the car, Huang Baitao saw his troops retreating like a flock of lost sheep along the way, turning a blind eye to him as the commander of the regiment. After Huang Baitao drove there, a burst of irritability came to his mind. He ordered the troops to push all the cars and tanks blocked on the bridge into the canal, and rushed to Nianzhuangwei desperately. He asked the troops to cross the canal overnight.

After nearly two days and one night of crossing, after throwing away nearly a hundred cars, Huang Baitao's corps finally crossed the river, and his avant-garde troops had already entered Nianzhuangwei, and Huang Baitao finally recovered from his shock. It can be said that Huang Baitao's corps had a bad start. Huang Baitao would never have imagined that something more unfavorable had happened before. On the day he was bombarded by our East China Field Army, generals He Jifeng and Zhang Kexia from the Third Appeasement Area of the Kuomintang led the headquarters of the 59th Army, two divisions, and one and a half divisions of the 77th Army. A total of more than 230,000 people suddenly announced an uprising on the battlefield. This action created conditions for the East China Field Army to quickly cut off the retreat route of Huang Baitao's corps, making the main forces of the East China Field Army's south and north sides like two sharp knives, piercing into the middle of Huang Baitao's corps that was retreating westward.Liu Zhi's group lost the canal barrier, which dealt a heavy blow to the Kuomintang army and Xuzhou's "suppressing generals" militarily and politically.

The battlefield uprising of the troops in the third appeasement area opened the passage on the canal around Taierzhuang, and the Shandong Corps of the People's Liberation Army quickly moved south from here. In order to seize time, our three columns continued to attack the enemy from the front.By November 8th, important passages such as the Wannianzha Bridge, the Hanzhuang Canal Iron Bridge, and the Taierzhuang Floating Bridge were all under the control of our army. Refers to the frontline command post of Jia Wangfeng Public Security Department. Huang Baitao was stunned by this news. In order to rush across the canal, he had already paid a very high price. The troops of the East China Field Army marched too fast, and the pursuers were always hard to get rid of. Huang Baitao felt various indescribable feelings in his heart. But he was always worried that it might still delay the fighter plane and affect the overall battle, so he didn't dare to be careless at all.

Huang Baitao's worry was not unreasonable. In view of the general retreat of the enemy in Xuzhou, our Central Military Commission issued an instruction that "the more determined and bold our army is, the more victorious it will be."Su Yu's eyes were bright, and he resolutely and decisively issued a mobilization order to all units of the East China Field Army, demanding that the entire army not be afraid of fatigue, difficulties, casualties, disrupting the organizational system, and not being blocked by rivers. Huang Baitao's corps captured Huang Baitao alive. In an instant, several columns of the East China Field Army headed south from Jinan, Jining, Jinxiang, Linyi and other places. Most of Shandong, people are running, cars are driving fast, and iron streams are rolling south. After the army passed through the old district after the harvest of autumn grain, every village was full of people singing and dancing to send off their relatives to go to war. Along with the troops were the former migrant workers who could not see the end. There were large slogans and cheers of "support the front line and overthrow Chiang Kai-shek" everywhere. the sound of.

At this time, Huang Baitao knew that the main soldiers of our East China Field Army were chasing him in three directions, so he didn't dare to slack off in the slightest, desperately urging the army to retreat. As both sides tried their best, the scene was extremely spectacular. At this time, in the area west of Tancheng, the officers and soldiers of our 8th column were crossing the waist-deep and bitingly cold Yi River and Baima River, and were marching towards the combat area with all their strength. During the rapid march, the 8th Column received an order from the East China Field Army Headquarters to "quickly annihilate the enemy at the canal station and seize the canal bridge". After research, the 8th column gave the task to the 23rd division. The 69th Regiment of the 23rd Division is the closest to the Canal Station, but still has a journey of more than 40 kilometers. The time is tight, the distance is long, the troops are tired, and the task is arduous, but the situation is extremely favorable to me. The 23rd Division immediately ordered the 69th Regiment as the advance regiment to eliminate the interference of the enemy along the way and strive to win the canal bridge as soon as possible. At this time, the advancing troops had not buried pots for cooking for more than 20 hours, but the soldiers said that even if they marched hungry, they must resolutely complete the tasks of the advance regiment and fight the first battle first. During the rapid march of the troops, in addition to the agitation of the propagandists, there was the sound of swishing footsteps. At this time, it was learned from a captured enemy deputy battalion commander that the five corps and corps headquarters of Huang Baitao's corps, except for the 63rd Corps attempting to cross westward in Yaowan, all others had withdrawn across the canal bridge, leaving only the The two regiments of the 44th Division acted as cover in the east of the bridge to block our army who came to cross the river. That night, the 1st Battalion of the 69th Regiment, the vanguard of the 8th Column, chased to the Canal Station. The soldiers of our army were like divine soldiers descended from the sky. When many enemies in 2 India were eating and drinking in the barracks, they were disarmed.Afterwards, my follow-up troops caught up and wiped out the Qiaodong defenders together. The enemy on the west of the bridge saw that the enemy defending the east of the bridge was wiped out, so they poured gasoline on the bridge deck and lit a fire in an attempt to block the way for our army to advance westward. At this time, the enemy's corpses were scattered in the west of the bridge, the vehicles and luggage abandoned by the fleeing enemies were burning, and the wounded soldiers lying on the bridge were wailing. The 69th regiment wiped out the enemy, seized the canal iron bridge that had been devastated by the bombing, and quickly extinguished the fire, cleaned the bridge deck, and laid the bridge deck, so that the large troops could cross the bridge smoothly. It bought precious time for our army to advance westward and quickly encircle Huang Baitao's corps. Prior to this, upon hearing the news that Huang Baitao's corps was about to withdraw, the head of the 4th column immediately sent a telegram to all departments: The enemy army hastily withdrew westward, just to take advantage of this to wipe out the enemy. In the process of crossing the river, the river was deep and the water was cold, the torrent was piercing the chest, and it was icy cold, but the soldiers didn't realize it. Against the enemy planes that were constantly bombing and strafing, they broke through the blocking of the enemy's covering troops and advanced bravely. There was only one thought in their minds, "To wipe out the 7th Corps and capture Huang Baitao alive".In the pursuit battle, many soldiers did not wear shoes during the continuous march, chasing and annihilating the enemy with bare feet. This is also a beautiful landscape in the history of our military. On the evening of the 8th, the main force of the 4th vertical entered the Canal Station after severely injuring the 108th Division of the 25th Army of the enemy in the Wuyang and Dujiachang areas. Most of the main force of the column wiped out most of the 3rd Division of the Ninth Army, the enemy who broke out from Guanhu. On the morning of the 9th, Huang Baitao managed to cross the canal. He looked to the other side with lingering fear, and ordered to blow up the canal iron bridge. The iron bridge had just been bombed, and my chasing troops also caught up to it. Standing on the east side of the river, we could see the enemy fleeing. Time is extremely urgent, and time only shows its true value in times of war, and time is victory. Our East China Field Army pursuit troops rushed to the canal and immediately rushed across the river. At the same time, the bombed iron bridge was repaired. The columns of our army immediately dispatched advance units to take the lead in seizing the river crossing. In order to prevent our army from pursuing, the Kuomintang army sent more than a dozen planes to cover the retreat behind Huang Baitao's troops, and violently strafed and bombed our troops who were rushing to cross the canal. The dense bullets fell on the river surface, stirring up columns of water. The waves were rolling, but the officers and soldiers of our army were not afraid, and crossed the river as usual. Some soldiers even picked up the big fish that surfaced after being bombed in the river, and said humorously: "Chiang Kai-shek sent us an improvement The comfort of the meal." Just when our East China Field Army was chasing after Huang Guotao's troops, the Shandong Corps had already reached Cao Baji one step ahead of the enemy, and rushed to occupy the position ahead of Huang Baitao, forming a front and back attack on Huang Baitao. The enemy's 44th Division, which was ordered by Huang Baitao to block the attack on the east bank of the canal, was completely wiped out. At this time, the main force of Huang Baitao's corps crossed the canal and continued to retreat westward. While our military column was advancing, enemy planes harassed us in batches from time to time, but our army still waded across the river in an orderly manner.During the pursuit, many small units boldly penetrated deep into the enemy's army, making Huang Baitao's troops even more panicked and confused. As soon as Huang Baitao crossed the canal and settled down, he drove from Nianzhuangwei to Bayiji where Li Mi's corps was located under the protection of a medium-sized jeep loaded with soldiers with live ammunition.Li Mi was very surprised by Huang Baitao's arrival, and immediately greeted him with an exaggerated expression of surprise. Huang Baitao began to scold Zhang and He for "rebellion" and the delay of the 44th Army before he could get a firm foothold, and then told Li Mi about the tragedy on the canal iron bridge. Li Mi said with concern: "Brother, you must pay special attention to the direction of Jiawang. The Shandong Corps is building a bridge. It seems that they are going to cross the south of the river. Boss Liu is worried that Xuzhou will be lost. Today he ordered our troops to gather in Xuzhou three times. Qiu Qingquan and Sun Yuanliang also It will move closer to Xuzhou. Dude, you have to be prepared, I think the main battle will happen soon this time." After hearing Li Mi's words, Huang Baitao was very disappointed. It seemed that Li Mi had already made all the preparations to retreat, and it was impossible for him to retreat slowly. So I had to pretend to be calm and said: "Let's fight! This is also a good opportunity. In the past, the main force of the Communist Army could not be found. This time, we have to see each other. I hope our two corps can cooperate well. By Qiu Qingquan is unreliable, you know that." Huang Baitao's meaning was obvious, he wanted Li Miwan to retreat a little bit, so as not to be trapped in a tight siege alone. Li Mi is not a fool either, although he sympathizes with Huang Baitao's situation, but it is absolutely impossible for his troops to pay for it.He repeatedly carried out the orders of "Boss Liu" to deal with Huang Baitao. The conversation could no longer continue, so Huang Baitao had no choice but to leave. He looked calm, but felt a dull pain in his heart. After saying goodbye to Li Mi in a calm manner, he turned around, tears almost welling up in his eyes.Sullenly, he ordered his entourage: "Notify the commanders of each army immediately, and immediately go to the Nianzhuang Corps Headquarters to discuss matters." On November 9, the Front Committee of the East China Field Army issued the "Political Mobilization Order on the Complete Annihilation of Huang Baitao's Corps" to all corps and columns in accordance with the changes in the battlefield situation, calling on all commanders and fighters not to be afraid of casualties, difficulties, fatigue, or hunger. Carry forward the spirit of continuous fighting, capture Huang Baitao alive, and wipe out the Huang Corps. Now, judging from the development of the battle situation, solving Huang Baitao's corps is no longer a problem. What's more, the Liaoshen Campaign has ended successfully, and the balance of forces between the enemy and ourselves has undergone fundamental changes. After the Northeast Field Army enters the customs and joins the North China Field Army, the enemy of Pingjin will become a shackle. At the same time, the enemy on the southern front is showing signs of withdrawing from Xuzhou and retreating to defend Jiangfang. At this time, the acting commander Su Yu was still in deep thought. When marching and fighting, he always likes to think ahead. He was thinking that after the annihilation of Huang Baitao's corps, he should take advantage of the victory to expand the results of the battle, and strive to annihilate the main force of the enemy on the southern front in Xuzhou and its surroundings. On the morning of November 8 the previous day, acting commander Su Yu and deputy chief of staff Zhang Zhen jointly proposed to Chen, Deng and the Central Military Commission: "...After the Yellow Army was annihilated in this battle, it is not necessary to use the main force to attack the Lianghuai River, but to attack the Xubang line, detain the enemy in Xuzhou and its surroundings, and then weaken and gradually eliminate them; at the same time, use the main force to enter In Huainan, cut off the Pubang Railway, confuse the enemy's deployment and isolate the enemy at various points in Xubang." After this telegram was sent, the Central Military Commission replied on the same day: Your estimates and deployments are very good.At the same time, under this policy, you should act decisively and do not ask for instructions on everything. The next day, November 9, the Central Military Commission called again: "You should try your best to wipe out the main force of the enemy near Xuzhou, and don't let them go south. East China, North China, and the Central Plains should use all their strength to ensure the supply of our army. "This telegram is the general policy of the Huaihai Campaign finalized by the Central Military Commission. On the 10th, after crossing the canal, several armies of Huang Baitao's corps withdrew westward hastily, under the circumstances that the troops' organization was disordered and their command was ineffective, and there were fortifications built by Li Mi's corps on the west bank of the canal that could be used. Stay in the Nianzhuangxu area 55 kilometers east of Xuzhou to reorganize the troops. It was later revealed that the rectification on this day was a fatal mistake made by Huang Baitao in his military career, which directly led to the destruction of the entire corps. Our army quickly ascertained the situation, made rapid progress, and made up for the "time difference" at a faster speed than the enemy, catching up with and blocking the enemy in the Nianzhuangwei area. At this time, the three columns commanded by our Shandong Corps quickly went down to Henan. On the 10th, at Caobaji, they wiped out a division of the vanguard of Huang Baitao's Corps and a regiment left behind by Li Mi's Corps for defense, and joined forces with those who went north from Suqian. On the 11th, the two brigades of the Zong and Jianghuai military regions joined together, cutting off the retreat of Huang Baitao's corps. According to the deployment of the Central Military Commission's first annihilation of the Huang Baitao Corps, our Huaye 2 Zong set off from Jiaolong Bay in the southeast of Linyi, and together with the Huaye 12 Zong and the Central Plains Field Army 11 Zong, divided and wiped out the 25th Army of the Huang Baitao Corps in the area around Ahu and the ancient tombs. , Complete a breakthrough in the middle, cut off the enemy's retreat from Haizhou to the east and Xin'an Town to the west. On the afternoon of November 8, when the troops advanced to the Zhugou area, it was discovered that the enemy's main force had withdrawn to the west of Xin'an Town, and there was still a part of the enemy's 63rd Army in Xin'an Town. The Corps ordered the 2nd vertical to attack and wipe out the enemy in Xin'an Township, and the 2nd vertical immediately turned its troops westward. On the morning of the 9th, when the leading troops of the 2nd and 4th Divisions arrived at Xin'an Town, the enemy had already retreated to Yaowan, and the 2nd Vertical's division went out again. At this time, Huang Baitao's corps had withdrawn to the Canal Station and Nianzhuangwei area.In order to prevent the enemy from breaking through to the southwest, the Corps also ordered the 2nd Zong to overcome all difficulties, cross the Xinyi River and the Canal, and enter Luwei, Caiji, and Gengche in the Suqian area, so as to intercept the enemy's escape at any time. On the evening of the 10th, under the brilliant sunset glow, we arrived at the Shaodian and Yehaizi areas on the north bank of the Xinyi River on the 2nd, and collected boats to prepare to cross the river. The distance between the two banks of the Xinyi River is more than 200 meters, the water surface is 80 to 90 meters wide, and the water depth is 3 to 5 meters. The flow speed is very fast. Most of the boats collected are small boats, which can cross people, but it is difficult for mules, horses and heavy artillery to cross them.Seeing this, Teng Haiqing, the commander of the column, immediately urged the construction of the bridge.Soldiers jumped into the piercing water and built bridges in the bitter cold wind. After hearing the news, the nearby villagers also rushed to help with door panels and wood. After fighting hard, 2 Zong set up three pontoon bridges on the river near Shaodian, which ensured that the troops could cross the river smoothly and advance rapidly to the Suqian area. On the night of the 11th, Chief Huaye ordered the 2nd Zong to quickly attack Dawangji and Shuanggou towns along the Zhengzhou Highway, annihilate the enemy 107th Army that was retreating from Suining to Xuzhou, and prepare to attack the enemy of Xuzhou's east aid from the flanks, smashing Du Yuming's detour Attempt to attack the flank of our army.At this time, I was more than 50 kilometers away from Shuanggou Town, and the enemy was one day ahead of me in terms of time.In the past few days, the troops have traveled thousands of miles day and night, and their physical strength has been exhausted.Teng Haiqing, political commissar Kang Zhiqiang, deputy commander Zhu Shaoqing, and director of the political department Deng Yifan studied various situations, and ordered the 4th Division to be on the left, the 6th Division to be on the right, and the 5th Division to follow closely behind. He called on the troops to overcome all difficulties, carry forward the spirit of continuous combat, and resolutely wipe out the enemy's 107th army. The People's Liberation Army captured another county town, Sun Liangcheng's Department of the 107th Army of the Kuomintang, which was originally subordinate to Feng Yuxiang's Northwest Army.At the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War, he took refuge in the Wang puppet regime. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he was incorporated into the temporary 25th Division by Chiang Kai-shek. In November 1948, it was reorganized into the 107th Army, under the jurisdiction of the 260th and 261st Divisions, and the military headquarters and the 260th Division were stationed in Suining County. After Sun Liangcheng was recruited, he fought very hard and was once appreciated by Chiang Kai-shek. He was the only senior officer of the puppet army who was recruited after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.However, because he was not born in Huangpu and had served under General Feng Yuxiang for many years, he was often suspected by Chiang Kai-shek and excluded by Chiang's direct descendants. On the eve of the Battle of Huaihai, General Feng Yuxiang's wife Li Dequan made a radio speech to the old Northwest soldiers, calling on them to abandon the dark and turn to the bright. When Chiang Kai-shek knew about it, he immediately called Feng Zhian, Liu Ruming, Sun Liangcheng, the former senior generals of the Northwest Army to Nanjing, and asked them to express their determination to "be loyal to the party and serve the country".Feng and others jointly issued a telegram to assist Jiang.Despite this, Chiang Kai-shek was still worried about them, and secretly ordered Yu Jishi, director of the military affairs bureau, and Deng Wenyi, director of the political and industrial bureau, to keep them under strict surveillance.Sun Liangcheng once sighed: "Jiang has commanded me, Sun, for many years, and I have never been in service. He has worked so hard, and now he still regards me as a 'no-name'. How can it not be discouraging." On November 4, Gu Zhutong, Chief of Staff of the Kuomintang Army, held a high-level military meeting in Xuzhou. Although Sun Liangcheng and other generals who were not directly related to Chiang Kai-shek were also called to the meeting. But you can only participate in general meetings and understand the general situation.Sun was very dissatisfied with this. After he came back, he said to people: "At the meeting that we all attended, Gu Zhutong just described the general combat situation and encouraged everyone to work hard to 'put down the chaos', but after the meeting, they called a meeting of their direct descendants. Feng Zhian, Liu Ruming and I None of them were called to the meeting. The whole battle plan is unknown to us 'no-names'. I was so upset that I came back earlier." Our party analyzed the contradiction between Sun and Jiang, and sent Zhou Hao, Li Qun and other staff to work in Sun Liangcheng's department to help him choose the way out of abandoning the dark and turning to the bright.Sun Liangcheng witnessed the main force of the People's Liberation Army going south one after another, and his own army was abandoned on the front line of Shuanggou and Suining. After all, it was difficult to escape the fate of being wiped out.Weighing the pros and cons, he once expressed to my staff that he was willing to hold a battlefield uprising in Suining, and ordered the 261st Division in Shuanggou to return to Suining to revolt together. On November 8, He Jifeng and Zhang Kexia, the deputy commanders of the 3rd Appeasement Zone, led an uprising.Chiang Kai-shek was deeply afraid that Sun Liangcheng would go where he and Zhang Houchen would go, so he sent a plane to send a personal letter to Sun Liangcheng on the same day to express "comfort" and at the same time ordered him to approach Xuzhou. On the 11th, he received an order from Liu Zhi, the commander-in-chief of Xuzhou's "Suppression General", asking him to lead his troops to Xuzhou as soon as possible. At this time, Sun Liangcheng hesitated, wavered, and finally changed his mind. He first asked the 261st Division, which had come to Suining to prepare for the uprising, to return to Shuanggou quickly, and then asked Xuzhou for more than 10 large trucks from the "Suppression General". Attempt to retreat to Xuzhou secretly. On the morning of the 12th, the leading troops of our 4th Division caught up with the rear troops of the enemy's 260th Division in Xingxu, 15 kilometers northwest of Suining; When the head of our 2nd Column learned that his 261st Division was in Shuanggou, he ordered the 4th Division to use a reinforced battalion to monitor and block the Dawangji enemy, and the main force of the division continued to attack Shuanggou along the Zhengzhou-Zhengzhou Highway. At this time, the vanguard battalion of our 6th Division also encountered the troops of the 107th Army retreating westward from Suining, and captured more than 40 enemies. The enemy immediately fled back to the Xingxu area to the east. The head of the 2nd vertical let the 6th division continue to advance according to the original plan.At 5 o'clock in the afternoon, the 6th Division arrived in Shuanggou and wiped out one company of the 261st Division.Under the leadership of the division commander Sun Yutian, the enemy fled in the direction of Xuzhou in a hurry. Besides, Sun Liangcheng led his team and fled westward along the Zhengzhou Highway after withdrawing from Suining on the morning of the 12th.After walking not far, I found that there were People's Liberation Army advancing westward on both sides of the road, and small gun battles occurred from time to time.He was worried that the troops would be cut off and wiped out by our army during the march, so he ordered the troops directly under the army and the 260th Division to go back to the Xingxu area to seize the favorable terrain and build fortifications to stand by for help; The Ministry and the 260th Division withdrew westward to Xuzhou. On the afternoon of that day, our 5th Division followed the 4th and 6th Divisions and arrived in the Xingxu area. Zhou Chunlin, the deputy division commander, and Hou Hongjun, the chief of the combat section, discovered the track marks of an enemy car turning off the road on the way, and led the cavalry squad to follow and reconnaissance.Knowing that the enemy's 107th Army, except the teaching regiment, was trapped in Dawangji, the military headquarters and the 260th Division were all gathered in Xingwei and Gaoji for defense, so they reported to the column and quickly deployed their troops to prepare for a strong attack. After the column received the report from the 5th Division, it asked the 5th Division not to give up trying to win its surrender while actively preparing for the attack. The head of the 5th Division immediately ordered the besieged enemies to lay down their weapons before 10:30 am on the 13th to avoid unnecessary sacrifices. At noon on the 13th, the enemy still had no intention of surrendering, so the 5th Division ordered the 2nd Battalion of the 15th Regiment to attack the 107th Army Teaching Regiment of the besieged enemy in Dawangji. At 16:00, the 2nd Battalion took the 5th company as an assault company, led by the instructor and the deputy battalion commander, broke through the defense line at the northwest corner in one fell swoop, and boarded the wall with lightning-fast movements. The enemy garrison battalion stationed in the northwest corner surrendered one after another. The enemy teaching regiment immediately organized a platoon counterattack in an attempt to regain the lost position. But in front of the heroic 5th company fighters, they were quickly repelled. At this time, my 6th and 4th companies had already rushed into the enclosure. The enemy was flanked by us back and forth, shrinking into a ball.I took the opportunity to launch a political offensive.Seeing that the situation was over, the enemy had to lay down their weapons and surrender. At 16:30, the battle ended victoriously. At 19:00, it was already dark, and my sentry found a small jeep with headlights on coming from Xingwei to our army. After parking the car, an officer got out of the car, claiming to be Sun Liangcheng, who came to contact the uprising and asked to see the column leader. The column determined that Fang Zhongduo, the political commissar of the 5th Division, talked to Sun Liangcheng on behalf of the column, exposed his plan to delay troops, and forced him to surrender on five conditions. At this time, Zhou Hao, who was sent by the Yezheng to work in Sun Liangcheng's troops, also came. When Fang Zhongfeng met Sun Liangcheng, Sun Liangcheng preemptively said: "I am here to contact the uprising, please give me the number of your army, let me lead the troops to Chaoyangji uprising." Fang Zhongfeng answered him calmly: "It's too late for you to talk about the uprising. We believed in you in the past and gave you the opportunity to uprising several times, but you didn't act. Now that the army is approaching the city, you come to discuss the uprising at this time. The time has passed. Now, all you have to do is surrender." Sun Liangcheng argued strongly: "The matter of the uprising has already been contacted, and you must not break your promise." Fang Zhongfeng asked him in turn: "At that time, I contacted you for the uprising in Suining. Why did you secretly run to Xuzhou with your troops? Since you were going to uprising, why did you propose to take your troops to Chaoyangji uprising 15 kilometers away? It's clearly a conspiracy, a plan to slow down the army." Fang Zhongfeng exposed Sun Liangcheng's tricks. Although Sun felt unreasonable, he always thought it was unseemly to surrender, so he brought up the issue of military integrity to make excuses for himself.Fang Zhongduo was well aware of Sun Liangcheng's career history, so he took advantage of his words and took the opportunity to severely reprimand Sun Liangcheng.Fang Zhongfeng said righteously: "What kind of integrity do you have? What kind of military integrity are you talking about! During Jiang Feng's war, you led your troops to defect, betrayed General Feng Yuxiang, and fell to Chiang Kai-shek; when the Japanese came, you betrayed the motherland and the people. The puppet army, together with the Japanese aggressors, killed the Chinese people; peace, although you come from Japan anyway, you can be regarded as abandoning the dark and turning to the bright, but you are not turning to the people and paying off the crime, but turning to Chiang Kai-shek and continuing to fight The people are the enemy, attack the liberated areas..." The more Comrade Fang Zhongfeng talked, the more angry he became, and Sun Liangcheng was speechless.Although Sun Liangcheng was at the end of his rhetoric at this time, he still insisted stubbornly: "I will not do it if I surrender." Then, Sun Liangcheng asked Fang's political commissar to call and ask the column leader if he could be allowed to revolt.Fang Zhongfeng called the leader of the column in front of Sun Liangcheng, and the leader of the column answered very simply: surrender immediately, or use force to solve it. Fang Zhongfeng patiently analyzed the stakes and interests to him, and helped him choose a bright way out.Said: "It's okay if you don't want to surrender, and I can let you go back now. But you know, you are surrounded by groups. Our troops can break in immediately and catch you. At that time, you will not be able to enjoy the surrender of the Kuomintang. The treatment of the general. We can send you to Yancheng, or to Suining, and leave it to the people to deal with. You have done a lot of things to the people there, and you know how the people will deal with you. " After hearing what Fang Zhongfeng said, Sun Liangcheng stopped raising the uprising and said, "I surrender to the people." At 8 a.m. on the 14th, Sun Liangcheng led the 107th Army and nearly 6,000 people from the 260th Division to put down their weapons. On the evening of the 14th, our 2nd and 4th Division caught up with the main force of the 261st Division of the 107th Army in Guoji and Guanyintang, 20 kilometers northwest of Shuanggou. Our army immediately occupied Guoji, and the enemy retreated to Rose Mountain. The 4th Division immediately fought side by side with the 2 regiments of the 11th and 32nd Brigade in the middle field to attack the enemy. After a night of fighting, the enemy's 261st Division was wiped out except for the division commander Sun Yutian who fled with a platoon. Our 4 divisions captured more than 2,000 enemies. The annihilation of the enemy's 107th Army opened the door to the southeast of Xuzhou, creating favorable conditions for us to advance to Xuzhou and flank the Qiu and Li corps. In this campaign, our 2 verticals captured more than 8,000 enemies and seized a large number of weapons and ammunition. From November 12th to 14th, under the cover of aircraft, tanks and heavy artillery fire, the two corps of Qiu Qingquan and Li Mi attacked our blocking troops for days, but suffered heavy casualties and made little progress.Du Yuming, deputy commander of the enemy's "Suppression General" in Xuzhou, saw that there were many difficulties in breaking through the front, so he agreed with Qiu Qingquan to make a detour from the flank, ordering the 74th Army to detour along Fangcun and Shuanggou to Daxu's house to the back of our blocking troops, so as to close the front and back. The effect of pinching. On the evening of the 15th, the leading regiment of the 74th Army was dispatched to the west of Fangcun. It was hit head-on by the leading regiments of our 4th and 6th divisions that were advancing against the enemy, and nearly half of them were wiped out.The enemy then shrunk their positions and formed a confrontation with us at Pantang, front and back Xiezhuang, Lulou, Zhaowa, Banzhuang, and Helou. It turned out that on the 15th, the Subei Corps, commander of the field, attacked from south to north, wedged into the line of Liubaoxu and Donghe Village, in order to cut off the retreat route of Qiu and Li Corps back to Xuzhou, and create conditions for the complete annihilation of the enemy. The 2nd column is responsible for the task of attacking the enemy from the west of Pantang and the east of Liuji. That night, the wind was swift and the moon was dark. The 4th division is on the left, the 6th division is on the right as the first echelon, and the 5th division is the second echelon, attacking forward. It happened to encounter the enemy's 74th Army troops sneaking eastward, so the battle mentioned above took place. At 11 o'clock on the 16th, the enemy launched a crazy attack on our army. The enemy's 74th Army used the strength of 2 divisions, under the cover of dense artillery fire and tanks, launched a regiment with its 51st Division to attack the Weijiahe and Guohu positions of our 11th regiment, especially Guohu. The battle was the most intense.Enemy artillery fire destroyed all the houses. The walls and houses in the village collapsed, and the smoke filled the air, but the continuous attacks of the enemy were repelled by my brave and tenacious fighters. At the same time, the enemy's 58th Division launched 2 regiments to attack our 17th Regiment guarding Li Village. Under the cover of heavy artillery fire and 7 tanks, they attacked continuously. Although they broke through our forward position several times, they were finally repelled. After a night and a day of fierce fighting, the enemy's 74th Army was hit hard by us, so they retreated to the surroundings of Pantang. This battle made Qiu Qingquan, commander of the enemy regiment, panic. He knew that the opponent he encountered was not our local troops, but several columns of the People's Liberation Army. Pantang West is 18 kilometers away from Xuzhou and only 8 kilometers away from Xuzhou Airport. It is the throat and sensitive area of Xuzhou. At that time, Jinpu The Xubang section of the line has been cut off by me, and the airport has become the only transportation supply line in Xuzhou.Qiu Qingquan worried that if Pantang fell and the airport was not secured, he would have the double responsibility of failing to rescue and losing important places. Therefore, Qiu Qingquan immediately drove back to the rear command post of Tuanshan in the suburbs of Xuzhou, stayed up all night, and mobilized the troops by phone himself.Shiling the 32nd Division of the 70th Army rushed to Liuji from Bawangshan to protect the junction of the 12th Army and the 74th Army. Gather behind Pantang. On the evening of the 17th, the ground was pitch black and you couldn't see your fingers. Our Northern Subei Corps reorganized the battlefield and launched an attack on the enemy again. 2. The 4th Division attacked Chentun and Confucian Temple, and the 6th Division attacked Jianglou before and after. On the morning of the 18th, the 2nd column had wedged into the enemy's position for nearly 4 kilometers, and the troops advancing forward were in a situation of being attacked on three sides. Therefore, the column commander Teng Haiqing immediately ordered the regiments to withdraw to the original line to guard. In view of the less than 3 kilometers of the front between Liuji and Pantang, the enemy has concentrated 5 divisions and 1 brigade, with dense forces and no gaps to take advantage of. They are determined to adjust their deployment, reduce the attack front, and move eastward. On the evening of the 18th, the 2nd Zong was ordered to move eastward to Shuikou and Xiaodian areas, and cooperated with neighbors to attack Gushan, Langshan, Zhongshan, and Shengshan to defend the 139th Division of the 70th Army. On the evening of the 20th, in accordance with the order of the General Front Committee, the 2nd column withdrew from Xudongnan to fight. On the 22nd, when the fraternal troops surrounded and wiped out Huang Baitao's corps, the 2nd Column had already entered the Shuichipu and Xisipo areas north of Renqiao in the southeast of Suxian County, and was preparing to wipe out the enemy advancing north from Bengbu. In late October 1948, Huaye ordered 361 out of Southwest Shandong, unified command of the Guangdong-Guangzhou Column and the 1st and 3rd Hebei-Shandong-Henan Independent Brigades, and served as a feint attack mission. He attacked Qiu Qingquan's Corps with active actions, captured Dangshan by camera, and advanced to Xuzhou. The enemy stuck a steel knife behind his back to delay his aid from the east and ensure that the main force of Huaye wiped out Huang Baitao's corps. At the same time, it was assigned to the command of the head of the Central Plains Field Army to support the eastward advance of the main force of the Central Plains. To perform this task, the commanders and fighters of the 3 verticals must make a big turn in their thinking.Column commander Sun Jixian and political commissar Ding Qiusheng immediately convened the party committee to unify their thinking. The party committee believed that the main attack and containment interacted with each other, and by clarifying the position and role of containment in the entire campaign, they could consciously obey the needs of the overall situation and actively implement their own responsibilities. Tasks to contribute to the complete victory of the battle.Returning to the command of the central field and cooperating with the main action of the central field is a promotion for the troops. They must obey orders, coordinate well, and show a good appearance. Then, the troops carried out extensive and in-depth situational task education and combat mobilization, and the cadres and soldiers were in high spirits for war. In order to meet the requirements of disguising the main force of Huaye, when the 3rd column went south from the Tai'an area, each regiment used the code name of 1 column, marched in multiple ways during the day, and arrived in Jinxiang and Shanxian areas on October 29 . On November 1, Sun Jixian, Ding Qiusheng, Commander Zeng Sheng of the Guangdong-Guangzhou Column, and Commander Zhao Jianmin of the Hebei-Shandong-Henan Military Region studied and deployed, and decided to expand the frontal active offensive operations to intimidate the Qiu Qingquan Corps.
