Chapter 30 Peng Dehuai's second and third distress

People say that Peng Dehuai is not afraid of death, and he has truly reached the state of giving up his life and forgetting death. Why are volunteers not afraid of death? There are such handsome men who are not afraid of death, and there are soldiers who are not afraid of death. During the second battle, the command post of the Volunteer Army was set up in a place called Dayu Cave. Because the Volunteer Army Command frequently sent out reports, it was detected by the enemy. Several times in a row, enemy planes frequently visited Dayu Cave. On the morning of November 25, the second battle on the western front was in full swing.

Boss Peng didn't sleep all night, and was dozing off on the small camp bed in the wooden house, feeling dazed. At around 11 o'clock in the morning, four U.S. bombers buzzed, flew over the headquarters of the Volunteer Army, and flew north. Secretary Cheng Pu was very concerned about Boss Peng's safety, so he hurried into the hut where Boss Peng slept. "Boss Peng, the enemy plane is coming, hurry up and defend against the air!" Boss Peng opened his sleepy eyes, grimaced, and choked, "What are you afraid of? You're so afraid of death!" Cheng Pu choked on his words.

Just at this time, Deputy Commander Hong Xuezhi ran from the air-raid shelter to the war room to call Boss Peng.As soon as Hong Xuezhi came, he immediately took off the map hanging on the wall, threw off the quilt, and stretched out his hand to grab Boss Peng: "Boss, hurry up, hurry up and hide from the plane!" Boss Peng laughed and scolded: "You pockmark, you are so afraid of death!" "Not only am I afraid of death, but I am also afraid of your death!" With that said, no matter what happens, Hong Xuezhi dragged Boss Peng, walked around Mao Anying, and walked towards the air-raid shelter.

When Boss Peng saw the map was taken away, he was helpless and indignant: "Okay, you Hong Dao dare to engage in kidnapping!" Mao Anying also finished sending the telegram at this moment, so he grabbed a big apple from the bullet box, and put a long circle of peel on the stove. The enemy planes flew back from the north again and bombed indiscriminately. Mao Anying, Gao Ruixin, and Cheng Pu were in the war room, and Cheng Pu ran out. Mao Anying and Gao Ruixin were killed by enemy planes and sacrificed honorably. This day happened to be one month after the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.

Mao Anying's sacrifice not only made his father Mao Zedong, but also his wife Liu Songlin suffer for a lifetime.According to Liu Songlin's recollection, the two had just got married at the time, and Mao Anying had been keeping her secret from her about going to North Korea. At the final farewell, Mao Anying bowed deeply to Liu Songlin, stared at her for a while, then turned and left. Liu Songlin recalled: "I didn't know anything at the time, I was dumbfounded, and I didn't understand why he was so excited. Whenever I recall this scene, I feel very sad and guilty. He said goodbye with the feeling of parting from life and death, but I was indifferent. Yes, I don't understand anything..."

On February 14, 1958, Premier Zhou Enlai led a delegation to visit North Korea to discuss the withdrawal of the Chinese People's Volunteers from North Korea. On the 17th, Premier Zhou and his entourage went to the Hicang Cemetery to pay tribute to Mao Anying and the volunteer martyrs. The Hicang Cemetery is 100 kilometers east of Pyongyang, North Korea. It is a cemetery for martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteers. A total of 134 volunteer martyrs, including Mao Anying, are buried here. It snowed heavily that day, and Marshal Chen Yi and General Su Yu were also accompanying him.Premier Zhou Enlai was silent for a long time in front of the tomb of the martyr Mao Anying. With his right arm injured, he stroked Mao Anying's tombstone with his left hand, choking and speechless.

"Kian Ying's sacrifice is an irreparable loss to the party, especially the chairman." Zhou En said. This is Peng Dehuai's second distress on the Korean battlefield. At dawn on April 7, 1951, the air defense post fired a gun to warn: "The enemy plane is coming!" At that time, Peng Dehuai's camp bed had just been set up, and before he could unpack his luggage, two US military planes suddenly flew over Kongsidong, the headquarters. The enemy planes found that there were activities near the hillside, and they swooped down from west to east one after the other.

Seeing that the situation was not good, the guards hurriedly pushed Peng Dehuai out of the wooden house, dragged him up and ran away, and quickly ran to a nearby ditch to hide. As soon as they ran out of the wooden houses, the enemy planes began to drop bombs on those houses, and then circled around and strafed at low altitude. At this very dangerous moment, Peng Dehuai was still very calm and calm, and kept yelling: "Leave me alone, hurry up and find Deputy Commander Deng and Deputy Commander Hong, and see if they are injured? Go!" After the enemy plane flew away, everyone went back to the wooden house to see that not only the doors and windows were smashed, Peng Dehuai's camp bed was also pierced by bullets four holes, the quilt was still burning, the washbasin and the telephone were also shot.

Everyone said in unison: "Boss Peng is really lucky! This time, nothing happened!" Hong Xuezhi said: "Mr. Peng is always a lucky general." Facing the bombed house, Peng Dehuai, who had never been humorous, said humorously: "The American Snitch's guns are really accurate, but they just don't know my surname Peng."
