Second Field Army 王玉彬 22434Words 2018-03-18
December 1948 Shuangduiji Little Li Family Huaibei Nanjing Caiwa Good news came from Huaye. After several consecutive days and nights of persistent attacks, Huaye's eleven columns surrounded the Du Yuming Group in the Chenguanzhuang area in the northeast of Yongcheng on December 4th. Liu Bocheng, Chen Yi, and Deng Xiaoping were greatly excited when they heard this, and immediately reported to the Military Commission, preparing to launch a general attack on the Huangwei Corps. On December 5th, the General Front Committee issued a general attack order on the Huangwei Corps: The order was strict, and the way it was issued was also different from the past. Liu Bocheng, Chen Yi, and Deng Xiaoping directly communicated to the various troops on the front line by telephone.

Many old comrades in Nakano still remember this "order to stick to the bottom".The author once interviewed Chen Feiqin, Nakano’s Propaganda Director, at the Navy Cadre Rest Center in Beijing.Mr. Chen is already eighty years old, suffering from cerebral hemorrhage and paralyzed in bed, leaving behind a serious language barrier. But when we asked about the history of the General Attack Shuangduiji, the old man’s energy suddenly revived, and he flipped through the documents and took the map. In addition to answering our questions with a pen, he also spoke in an unusually coherent manner, "That... that is... ...a symphony!"

As Mr. Chen said, the general attack order is like a mountain falling.Give an order, move the baton, and the east, west, and south groups formed by the various columns participating in the general offensive battle are like the first, second, and third parts of a powerful symphony orchestra; Cannons, mortars, machine guns, rifles, grenades... All kinds of "instruments" are played majesticly and harmoniously with the same score. The East Group is composed of the fourth, ninth, and eleventh columns of Nakano, the artillery main force of the Huaye Special Forces Column, and the independent brigade of Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu; it is under the unified command of the commander of the fourth column, Chen Geng, and political commissar Xie Fuzhi; In the Shenzhuang, Liweizi, Zhangweizi, Yangweizi and Yangzhuang areas to the east, the remnants of the 14th Army and the 75th and 114th Divisions of the Tenth Army.

According to the deployment of the General Front Committee, the focus of the general offensive is first placed on the Eastern Group, which will disintegrate the enemy's defense system and completely expose the core positions of its corps. After the East Group succeeds, focus on the South Group, carry out an assault from south to north, and finally annihilate the enemy. When Chen Geng was designated as the commander-in-chief of the East Group, unified command of the three columns and an independent brigade, and served as the forward of the general attack, his pressure and anxiety increased.

A few days ago, his troops tried to launch several attacks on Shen Zhuang and Li Weizi, but they suffered heavy casualties and suffered repeated setbacks. For this reason, he lost his temper, ran to the front with a staggering limp on his disabled leg, and asked Zhou Xihan, commander of the Tenth Brigade, "Why are you frustrated?" Zhou Xihan's eyebrows were furrowed: "The firepower preparations were well organized, but the terrain is open, and our charging position is too far away from the enemy's position, and we were killed by firepower before we got close." "Get close and charge. Get close! Quickly organize the troops—not charge, but dig traffic trenches and get close to the enemy!" After that, Chen Geng limped towards the charge position.

Stepping on the moonlight, he patrolled one bunker and one trench after another, stopping from time to time to measure the depth of the trenches. He asked a company commander: "How far is this from the enemy?" "Three or four hundred meters." The company commander replied. "No, it's too far! You dig it again for me." "Commander," said the company commander with a sad face, "it's not that I don't want to dig. The ground is so frozen that it's hard to dig. Besides, we've never dug before..." "That's not a reason! You haven't dug, and you can't dig, and you just watched soldiers die in batches?! Sweat more before the battle, and bleed less during the war. Don't you understand this simple truth?!" Chen Gengfa Out of temper, he reached for the company commander's shovel: "Come here, I'll show you."

The company commander panicked and hugged the shovel: "Commander, tell me, where did you dig?" "Forty meters away from the enemy's position." "Don't worry." The company commander saluted, "I promise to dig under the enemy's nose!" Chen Geng's mood did not relax because of this.In addition to the fact that the approach work has not been completed, the ammunition and firepower preparations are not sufficient. The General Front Committee originally planned to launch a general offensive a few days earlier, but Chen Geng risked the responsibility of resisting the order and not complying with it, and asked for a delay.Unexpectedly, Liu Bocheng agreed with his opinion, and called and said: "Comrade Chen Geng, your opinion is correct. From now on, the West Group and the South Group will also carry out close operations. The General Front Committee plans to postpone the launch of the whole line until the sixth day. There are still five days to prepare for the general attack, do you think it is enough?"

Chen Geng was very moved: "That's enough, three days is enough! Commander, I would like to mention one more point. At that time, I will attack several villages at a time, and I will not have enough firepower. If I attack Li Weizi on the first day, I will attack one village every day in the future. I promise to win every battle!" "Okay. Beating Huang Wei is like pushing a big roller. At the beginning, you always have to show your strength. As for how to push it, it's completely up to your opinion." At that time, Chen Geng put down the phone and felt that there was a layer of fog on the glasses. He wiped and wiped, put it on again, and there was still fog until he remembered to wipe his eyes...

Now, the general attack really begins. The newly dug trenches criss-cross, like tense bows, pressing the soldiers on the strings.Chen Geng couldn't hold back in the command post anymore, and once again came to the forward position of Li Weizi's Tenth Brigade. A cold shot exploded behind him, and the reconnaissance staff who went with him fell in a pool of blood.Zhou Xihan, the brigade commander of the Tenth Brigade, broke out in a cold sweat, ran a few steps to stop him, and advised him not to go any further. He stared: "Leave me alone, you go to command the battle!" Chen Geng walked along the trenches as usual, inspecting the soldiers' weapons, talking to the soldiers, and encouraging them to charge bravely.

A machine gun shooter who had just been liberated into the army listened to Chen Geng's speech, and emptied five machine gun bullets in one gulp, saying: "Such a big chief has gone to the front line - I have worked on the Kuomintang side for seven or eight years, and I have never seen it before. Now, I feel like I'm going to fly, so I want to charge!" At 16:30 on the 6th, the general offensive was launched amidst the artillery fire that shook the world. The artillery bombardment for half an hour blew up the enemy's stronghold fortifications into a sea of flames. Chen Geng followed the attacking troops forward and forward, and the telephone operator followed behind him to pull the line.He waved his hand and said, "No need. Zhou Xihan is in command of the frontline attack. I'm watching the battle now. I haven't asked for instructions and reports to my superiors, and I have nothing to say to my subordinates."

In fact, Chen Geng, who was watching the game, was more nervous than anyone else.In his own words: "I, Chen Geng, never knew what it means to be nervous, but after being frustrated by beating Li Weizi twice, before launching the charge for the third time, I felt as if a prisoner was going to the execution ground, and I was so nervous..." It wasn't until Zhou Xihan reported that he had successfully captured Li Weizi and ended the battle, with almost no casualties in the troops, that he leaned softly on the trench, as if falling apart. In the first battle of the Nine Columns General Offensive, Zhang Weizi was defeated.Commander Qin Jiwei is a master of skillful battles. As early as a few days ago when he fought Xiaozhangzhuang twice, he summed up a set of tactics for fighting on the plains. It can be said that he invented traffic trenches for close-in operations. The first time they fought Xiaozhangzhuang, the troops had the idea of underestimating the enemy, thinking that the enemy had only one regiment stationed, which was a piece of cake.Unexpectedly, such a large table was placed on this dish, and three layers of strong fortifications were built: the outer layer is a deer village, barbed wire and a forward bunker, with a depth of 150 meters; Within meters, bunkers are densely covered, and trenches are staggered; the inner layer is composed of houses and bunkers of different sizes to form an airtight group fortification. The attacking force suffered heavy casualties after tearing through the outer fortifications during the charge. The cadre in charge of the front-line command blushed, waved his pistol and shouted: "Can people not die in a war? The life belongs to the public, and it's fine if it's over!" "Nonsense!" Qin Jiwei's call went to the front line, "Is the life of a soldier so worthless?! The General Front Committee proposed that Huang Wei must be "fighted for life", which is strategic and must not be regarded as a tactical idea. Withdraw the troops, use your brains before smashing that hard walnut!" Two days later, the same commander called again to report that after the three soldiers of the regiment's machine gun company broke through Luzhai that day, they were suppressed by enemy fire and could neither attack nor retreat. In order to hide themselves, they were forced to carry out earthworks. They first dug the lying bunkers into kneeling bunkers, then dug the bunkers, and then connected the bunkers into trenches. They persisted for a day and two nights under the enemy's fire net. The trenches dug with spades and spades returned to the troops. "Okay!" Qin Jiwei's brain was driven by this information to speed up the operation, and he immediately explained, "The key to winning the attack against the enemy who built a fortification in the field on the plain is to shorten the time of movement under the enemy's fire. And the three fighters Experience has just shown that carrying out large-scale approaching operations and using traffic trenches to approach the enemy is an excellent way to improve our survivability and ultimately defeat the enemy. From now on, the entire column will stop attacking and go all out to dig trenches. Let the trenches Get as close to the enemy as possible, and then seize the ditch by the ditch, take the fort by the fort, peel the enemy's skin and then dig out his heart!" "Understood! Beating Huang Wei is like killing a pig. You have to tie him with a rope first, and then insert the knife straight down the throat." "That's right. The trenches are the ropes we use to tie pigs. If you dig a lot and tie them tightly, it will be easier to kill them!" That night, an emergency operation of unprecedented scale quietly unfolded. The company commanders packed lime with rice bags and crawled towards the enemy's position, and the soldiers followed along the looming white line.Until tens of meters away from the enemy's position, the company commander issued a signal, and the soldiers lined up in a long line and swung their shovels. Before dawn, the enemy's trenches, which are as wide as a stretcher and as deep as the top of your head, have begun to take shape.Under the leadership of Qin Jiwei, the column organization voluntarily donated a month's allowance and the end of food, bought scallion pancakes and hot pepper soup, and sent them to the front line. The soldiers drank the hot pepper soup with the fragrant oil cakes. I don't know if it was the effect of pepper, chili, or some other reason, each of them had snot and tears. Xiao Zhangzhuang was successfully taken down, wiped out more than 1,200 defending enemies, captured five mortars, one anti-aircraft gun, and more than 30 light and heavy machine guns. The General Front Committee quickly affirmed the pioneering spirit of the Nine Columns and extended the experience to each column.Even Chen Geng went to the front in person, urging the troops to dig the trenches under the noses of the enemy. On December 6th, while the four verticals were attacking Li Weizi, Qin Jiwei followed suit and launched a general attack on Zhang Weizi.Garrisoning Zhangweizi is one of the nine main forces of the Huangwei Corps, the 223rd Regiment of the 75th Division of the Tenth Army.Hu Lian named this regiment the "Youth Regiment", claiming that one regiment was worth five battalions' defense. Qin Jiwei rushed to the front and said to Xiang Shouzhi, the brigade commander in charge of the front enemy's command: "Push the traffic trench forward, let the flat-fire guns approach and shoot, and ensure that a single shot can solve a bunker." The cannon spoke, and the flames burst into the sky for a while, and the enemy's fortresses boarded the planes and rose into the sky with smoke. The infantry followed the cannons into battle, and started a fierce battle from ditch to fort. The third company of the 76th regiment of the famous Red Army company displayed a high degree of tenacity, fighting and forming. In the end, there were only 17 wounded comrades, including Hao Jun, the ninth squad leader, and Ma Shaokong, the correspondent. They also formed two assault squads and took down Zhang Weizi's last big bunker. This was a tough battle, and there were not many prisoners, but the enemy's corpses were everywhere, which shows the cruelty of the battle.Among the few captives, there was a company commander of the enemy anti-aircraft artillery company. He said: "We are the strongest youth regiment among the nine main forces, but you are more tenacious than us. If you can defeat us, the other regiments will not be able to defeat us." No problem." The West Group is composed of the first and third columns of Zhongye, the 13th column of Huaye and the first artillery unit. The commander of the three columns, Chen Xilian, is in charge of annihilating Maweizi, Xiaomazhuang, Sanguanmiao, Yuhuangmiao, The tasks of the 18th Division of the enemy's Tenth Army and one part of the Eighty-fifth Army in the Xuzhuang area. The battle of the three verticals attacking Maweizi was very fierce, but the progress was not smooth. After a full five days of fierce fighting from the 6th to the 10th, they still failed. Only the Ninth Brigade captured Dongmaweizi and wiped out a company of the enemy. Chen Xilian reported the situation to Deng Xiaoping by phone. When he talked about the casualties of nearly 4,000 troops, some companies had only three or five people left; the columns, brigades, and regiments all filled the companies with personnel from the agencies and directly subordinate units, and reorganized the front line many times, determined not to wipe out Huang Wei. When vowing not to give up, Deng Xiaoping said: "Comrade Xilian, I agree with your determination. No matter how heavy the casualties are, as long as we can eliminate the two enemies Huang Wei and Du Yuming in Jiangbei, it will be worthwhile." Chen Xilian immediately said: "Please rest assured, the chief, we must be well-organized, carefully commanded, and resolutely complete the task, even if we go bankrupt, we will do it to the end!" At dusk on the 11th, troops were gathering in countless trenches, and the flow of people was like going to a market. The mountain artillery was only 150 meters away from the enemy, and Zhao Lantian, the commander of the Seventh Brigade, was still shouting: "Move forward! Move forward! A mountain artillery is aimed at a bunker!" The enemies in Maweizi probably sensed the anomaly, and mobilized all the cannons, small cannons, machine guns, and flares, and the shells and bullets hit the front, back, left, and right sides of the three vertical trenches like hail. The air-exploded artillery shells and flares released clusters of silvery white and bright flames, which dazzled people's eyes. The soil on the parapet of the trench was so shaken that it flowed down, and it was as soft as stepping on the beach. However, all of this, to the people who were about to "go bankrupt", it seemed that they did not exist at all. The flow of people was still moving like going to a market, and the preparations for various attacks were still going on intensely and orderly. At eighteen o'clock sharp, the attack began. The power of hundreds of cannons immediately overwhelmed everything. The enemy's firepower, which was so crazy just now, became silent in a blink of an eye.The assault troops took advantage of the situation and quickly broke through the front, wedged behind the enemy's side. Then, the three brigades of the three verticals cooperated closely and launched a pincer offensive. The Eighth Brigade assaulted from the southwest corner of Ximaweizi to the enemy's left rear, the Seventh Brigade assaulted from the southeast corner to the enemy's right rear, and the Ninth Brigade assaulted from the northeast corner, like three steel arrows, piercing through the enemy's defensive position. Depth, reunited in Maweizi, wiped out all the 52nd Regiment of the 18th Division and the two battalions of the 9th Regiment in one fell swoop, and captured more than 800 people including Tang Tiebing and Zeng Pinchao, the principal and deputy commanders of the 52nd Regiment. In order to complete the task of capturing Pony Village, the first column of the West Group also fought extremely hard and fiercely. Xiaomazhuang, three kilometers north of Shuangduiji, is an important barrier stronghold for the Huangwei Corps. The enemy uses village enclosures and houses as the base point to form a solid defensive position with several fortress groups; at the same time, it is equipped with a deep position composed of trenches, deer villages, mines and barbed wire; and forms an angle with Gezhuang and Dawangzhuang positions. Gu, jointly guarding the core position of the double stack. Yizong also had a bad start. At 4:00 p.m. on the 6th, the 20th Brigade, with the 52nd Regiment as the main attacking force, crossed open ground and approached Xiaomazhuang; At 8:00 p.m. on the 7th, the 20th Brigade, with the 1st Battalion of the 59th Regiment as a commando, launched a second attack on Xiaomazhuang. After the powerful artillery cover, the first battalion quickly opened the passage and captured the front position of Xiaomazhuang. The second battalion and the third battalion followed closely behind, attacking from multiple directions. After three hours of fierce fighting, one battalion of Xiaomazhuang was wiped out. After occupying the enemy's position, the 59th Regiment, which occupied Xiaomazhuang, was in an isolated and prominent position because the 3rd Column and the 1st Column 58th Regiment failed to capture the Maweizi and the independent houses. position, had to reluctantly withdraw from the battle. On the night of the 8th, the 58th Regiment was ordered to strike Pony Village three times. They dug the fortifications under the wall of the East Village of Xiaomazhuang, and took advantage of the opportunity of the enemy's reoccupation of Xiaomazhuang, and took the third battalion and eighth company as a commando, led by the deputy head Yu Xiuqing, to attack Xiaomazhuang in one fell swoop. ; but because the second echelon did not keep up in time, the enemy was able to seal the breakthrough. The Eighth Company was besieged in the village by several times the enemy, fighting bloody nights.By the dawn of the next day, only thirteen people had withdrawn, and the rest all died heroically. Yang Yong, who doesn't shed tears easily, had wet eyes.In order to carry out the fourth attack on Xiaomazhuang, he decided to prepare for three days and nights from the 9th, and at the same time transferred the first brigade to launch a general attack with the 20th brigade. At 11:30 on the night of the 12th, all the muzzles of the entire column were aimed at Xiaomazhuang. The Seventh Regiment alone used 30 heavy-duty launching tubes to project more than 4,000 catties of explosives within ten minutes.Thunder and lightning interspersed, shaking the earth and burning the sky red with blood. In an instant, almost all the fortifications, bunkers, and obstacles in the enemy's position in Xiaomazhuang collapsed and destroyed; most of the enemies in the fortifications were killed and injured, and they were stunned and deafened. At zero o'clock, Han Guojin, head of the 58th regiment, and Zhao Yang, political commissar, were ordered to launch an assault with one battalion and three companies.Under the leadership of the squad leader and combat hero Li Dedao, the sixth squad of the second row of sharp knives opened the wall from the northwest corner of Xiaomazhuang and broke into the village, opening up a passage for the follow-up troops. A platoon of the enemy rushed over, trying to seal the breach. The sixth squad fired at once with short bursts of fire, and when the bullets ran out, they fought with grenades; when the grenades ran out, they fought hand-to-hand with bayonets.Li Dedao jumped into the enemy group first with a bayonet in his hand, stabbed three enemies to death in a row, and was seriously injured himself. Finally, he snatched a grenade from the enemy, and died together with the surrounding enemies. "Revenge for the squad leader!" Most of the sixth squad were killed, and the only remaining soldier named Guo Jinchang uttered the cry of a beast. At this time, Guo Jinchang had four or five injuries on his body, and he could no longer stand up on his legs.Dozens of enemies are approaching him step by step.He struggled to climb to the side of the enemy he had just stabbed to death, grabbed three grenades from the waist of the dead body, and threw them at the enemy group; then grabbed a submachine gun from the hand of the dead body, and chased the fleeing enemy with firepower... see follow-up The troops rushed up, a smile flickered across Guo Jinchang's mouth, his head drooped, and he passed out... At 1:30 in the morning, all the enemies of Xiaomazhuang were wiped out, and the west gate of Shuangduiji, which was firmly guarded by the Huangwei Corps, was opened. The South Group consisted of the Nakano Sixth Column, the Huaye Seventh Column, and the Twelfth Brigade of the Southern Shaanxi Military Region. Under the unified command of the Sixth Column Commander Wang Jinshan and Political Commissar Du Yide, they were responsible for annihilating the enemies south of Shuangduiji. Wang Jinshan and Du Yide of the South Group, one is bold and the other is meticulous, they complement each other and cooperate with each other tacitly. As early as a few days ago, they organized the troops to complete a series of preparations such as approaching operations, logistical support, ammunition supply, and rescue of the wounded. At 17:00 on the 6th, at the time stipulated by the General Front Committee, the South Group launched an attack on the enemy's outlying strongholds Li Tulou and Xiaozhouzhuang. It took less than three days for the Huaye Seventh Column and Nineteenth Division to reach the southern line for defense. The time for pre-war preparations was very short, and it was not even possible to build the traffic trenches and offensive positions for the forward movement. But in order to cooperate with the six verticals to attack Li Tulou, regardless of various difficulties, they launched an attack on Xiaozhouzhuang on time, wiped out the defending enemy cleanly, and captured more than 600 people below the deputy head of the enemy, which opened a good example for the general offensive on the southern front. head. The morale of the army on the southern line was greatly boosted, and the 52nd Regiment of the 18th Brigade of the 6th Column and the 34th Regiment of the 12th Brigade of Southern Shaanxi immediately launched an attack on Li Tulou.Li Tulou is a small village with less than 30 households. It is ordinary, just like the gray-brown adobe houses with thatched roofs that cannot be distinguished from Zhang Zhai and Li Yuan. There is nothing unusual about it.However, it is very important to the double-stacked Huangwei headquarters. It forms an iron gate with Dawangzhuang and Xiaowangzhuang less than five miles to the west. If the Huangwei Corps breaks through, this can be used as a starting point; The task of Liu Zong is to knock on this iron door and smash this shield. After the artillery fire was launched, the 18th Brigade and the 12th Brigade were like powerful arrows, shooting at the enemy's positions from the northeast and southwest. In the 18th Brigade in the northeast, the blasting team first used dense light and heavy firearms to cover the blasting team.I saw the soldiers in the blasting group walking like flying, jumping up to the enemy's position, the first group came down, and the second group followed. With two loud bangs, the enemy's remaining two frontier bunkers flew into the sky together with the defending enemy.Immediately afterwards, the commando leaped over an open field of more than 60 meters, crossed the front of the enemy, and swept over with cluster grenades and platoon guns. With the rapid development of the commando in depth, the artillery fire is also continuously extended. The enemy lost their support for resistance, and retreated westward like fallen leaves swept by the autumn wind. The commando has been pointing to the westernmost end of the village, approaching the enemy's last bunker. The enemy fought desperately, refused to surrender, and was all blown to death inside... The Twelfth Brigade, attacking from the southwest, ignored the enemy's strict fire blockade, crawled forward in the enemy's flanking fire nets, broke through the enemy's communication ditch and deer village from south to north, and split the enemy into east and west; Surround the enemy's bunkers one by one, and destroy six bunkers in a row with grenades and explosives. The rest of the enemies in the bunker were frightened, and one by one raised their hands and surrendered. The enemy's battalion headquarters was located in a big bunker at the west end of the village. Seeing that the situation was over, the battalion commander obediently raised the white flag. So far, Li Tulou's defenders have been wiped out at 17:50. So far, the internal defense lines of the double stacks have all been exposed in front of our army. Amidst the sound of rumbling motors, a small transport plane flew over Shuangduiji. The wing tilted and slid sideways, and just as it deflected, a beam of sunlight hit Hu Lian's blue-gray face like a surprise attack, making his scar on his cheek that was pierced by bullets during the Northern Expedition and left forever on his cheek glow red.He shivered unexpectedly, turned his head, and looked down the porthole... This is the second time he has overlooked the double stack surrounded by the People's Liberation Army from a high altitude.Ten days ago, I was restless trying to save the Huangwei Corps.Chiang Kai-shek, like an ant in a hot pot, suddenly remembered that Hu Lian was still in Shanghai for medical treatment, so he immediately sent Yu Jishi to Shanghai and called Hu Lian to Nanjing to see him. When Yu Jishi rushed to the hospital, Hu Lian had already packed his bags.In fact, even if Chiang Kai-shek didn't summon him, Hu Lian couldn't live anymore. He didn't become the commander of the Corps, although he felt angry and anxious, and he didn't pretend to have a toothache: but the news that the Shuangduiji Huangwei Corps was besieged repeatedly in the newspapers made him feel pain like piercing his heart. He couldn't let go of his Eighteenth Army, which was his lifeblood. After graduating from Whampoa Military Academy, he served as company commander, battalion commander, regiment commander, brigade commander, division commander, and then army commander in the 18th Army.It can be said that the Eighteenth Army gave birth to Hu Lian, and it can also be said that Hu Lian created the Eighteenth Army. Anyway, Hu Lian and the Eighteenth Army have a blood-like parent-child relationship. Hu Lian arrived in Nanjing overnight and went straight to Chiang Kai-shek's official residence. When Chiang Kai-shek saw Hu Lian, he immediately asked, "Well, you know everything about the battle at the front, right?" "Understood, principal." "Rescue Huang Wei, what can you do?" "I think," Hu Lian had been thinking about this matter for a long time, and at this moment he said, "The battle of Xu Bang is unprecedented in scale. If we win the battle, we can at least rely on the natural dangers of the Huaihe River and the Yangtze River to defend Nanjing, stabilize the situation, and then plan a counterattack. If we do well, we can also annihilate the main forces of the Communist Army, Liu Bocheng and Chen Yi, in the Xubeng area, and then take advantage of the situation to open up the Jinpu Road , connect with North China, and drive Mao Zedong back to the Loess Plateau!" Chiang Kai-shek nodded repeatedly.Hu Lian continued: "Therefore, the students think that we would rather make the other battlefields tighter, and concentrate on winning the battle of Xu Bang. Moreover, the most urgent task is to send troops to rescue the 12th Corps, otherwise it will take a long time and it may be difficult to support." "Well, well." Chiang Kai-shek still only nodded without speaking. Hu Lian stood up: "When the party and the country are in danger, the students are willing to fly to Shuangduiji to assist Commander Huang to save the crisis and persist until the reinforcements arrive!" "Okay. Okay." Chiang Kai-shek looked at Hu Lian with appreciative eyes, "You fly to Shuangduiji, and I will immediately mobilize troops and rush to help!" "Yes!" Hu Lian solemnly paid a military salute, and walked out awe-inspiringly. The next day, December 2, Hu Lian boarded a plane going north and flew to Shuangduiji. At that time, the People's Liberation Army had not yet launched a general offensive.Hu Lian on the plane looked at the cobweb-like trenches layer by layer in the encirclement. Although he felt impressive, he was not alarmed at all.A spider's web can hold a worm, but a web cannot hold a giant beast. He is full of confidence in the 12th Corps, especially the 18th Army. However, Hu Lian's self-confidence could not last for a few days, like an iceberg, it was melted by the artillery fire from the front. On December 6, the People's Liberation Army launched a general offensive across the board. The double-stack situation is even more critical. The outlying positions serving as a defensive system were lost one by one, and the Corps could only control a small area less than three miles from east to west and less than five miles from north to south—on a one-fifty-thousandth map, it was at best the size of a baby's palm. The people in Shuangduiji have a vivid metaphor: Huang Wei came to Shuangduiji, first became the head of the district, then the head of the township, and finally became the head of the village. The casualties were even more severe. Of Wu Shaozhou's 85th Army, only Huang Zihua's 23rd Division remained; most of Xiong Shouchun's 14th Army was wiped out, leaving only a few thousand; It is also dilapidated; only Yang Botao's Eighteenth Army can barely maintain the military system.Facing the PLA's increasingly fierce offensive, the Corps' mobile forces are getting less and less, and it is even difficult to deploy a platoon. As long as a gap is opened, it will no longer be difficult to fill. At this time, the army commander and division commander directly commanded the battle in the village where they were stationed.Because once the position is disintegrated, there is no way to escape if you want to escape. Either you will be killed or you will bow your head and capture you. However, the reinforcements promised by Chiang Kai-shek have not been seen for a long time.Seeing this, Huang Wei sighed to Hu Lian: "The communist army's plan is sinister, and they used the tactic of catching fish in water. Now the flood is almost dry, and there is still no news of reinforcements. We can't sit still and wait for death!" Hu Lian's scarred cheeks lost the arrogance of the past, and he bit his dentures that didn't fit properly, and said, "I will go to Nanjing again and urge the principal to send rescue troops early. If there is hope for reinforcements, we will join forces with them Discuss and cooperate with the combat plan to defeat the communist army together!" "What if the reinforcements are hopeless?" Huang Wei continued worriedly, "My opinion is that in order to preserve the current strength of the Twelfth Corps, please also suggest to the principal that the Corps be allowed to break through." After the two agreed, Hu Lian flew back to Nanjing. How did Huang Wei and Hu Lian know that in the past few days, Chiang Kai-shek has been devastated to dispatch reinforcements to rescue them.On the day Hu Lian was sent away, Chiang Kai-shek passed Bai Chongxi, who had repeatedly resisted orders, and urgently sent Song Xilian, commander of the Fourteenth Corps in Jingmen, Hubei, and Wang Lingyun in Xiangyang, asking them to come to Nanjing immediately. Chiang Kai-shek thought that if Bai Chongxi was thrown off this time, there would be no problem in deploying troops.Unexpectedly, Bai Chongxi's interference became even more serious. The Ministry of National Defense and the Military Command Office spent a lot of effort and only transferred two armies of the 14th Corps; after the transfer, Bai Chongxi sent the headquarters guard group to guard the troop carrier and not allow it to be shipped.Gu Zhutong tried to mediate over the phone, but to no avail.Chiang Kai-shek was so anxious that he talked to Bai Chongxi himself.Bai Chongxi was determined, no matter what Chiang Kai-shek said, he just refused to agree.Chiang Kai-shek became angry and scolded Bai Chongxi for disobeying orders.Bai Chongxi did not show any weakness, but retorted: "I obey reasonable orders, but I cannot obey unreasonable orders." "Mother Xipi!" Chiang Kai-shek was so angry that he slammed the telephone on the table. From then on, Jiang and Bai broke up, and the plan to deploy troops to rescue Huang Wei fell through. When Hu Lian flew to Nanjing, it was the moment when Chiang Kai-shek was depressed and anxious and pessimistic. In the evening, Chiang Kai-shek invited Hu Lian and Song Xilian to the official residence for dinner.Hu Lian was surprised to find that in just a few days, the principal had aged and haggarded a lot, and his sideburns and beard were almost completely white. Accompanying the meal were Chief of Staff Gu Zhutong, Deputy Chief of Staff Lin Wei, Deputy Commander of the Air Force Wang Shuming, and Chiang Ching-kuo. Chiang Kai-shek raised his chopsticks, signaled everyone to eat, and then stopped talking.Everyone looked solemn, except for chopsticks occasionally clinking dishes, not even the sound of chewing and swallowing was heard. This feeling of being tortured instead of eating made Hu Lian think of the "Last Supper". Finally, when Chiang Kai-shek put down his chopsticks, Gu Zhutong got up and informed everyone that the principal wanted those who stayed to watch a movie. In the small reception room, the projector has been set up.As soon as Chiang Kai-shek took his seat, the title of the film - "Wen Tianxiang" was immediately launched on the screen against the background of the roaring smoke and broken rivers and mountains. Hu Lian's heart was shocked, deeply feeling the principal's good intentions. With the collision of vision, hearing and even soul with the tragic pictures and tragic shots, his Adam's apple tightened and his eye sockets became hot.A sad song lingers in his chest from the beginning to the end - "Fear is said on the beach, and one sighs alone. No one in life has died since ancient times, and the loyalty will be kept to reflect the history." At the end of the movie, Hu Lian realized that his palm had been nailed Pressed out a deep blood mark. With tears in his eyes, Chiang Kai-shek stood up, nodded to the people present, then hunched his neck, like an old man, and staggered upstairs.Back and forth, even eating and watching movies, a total of more than three hours, Chiang Kai-shek hardly said a word.At this moment, the wordless farewell added a bit of heaviness... Watching Chiang Kai-shek's back disappear at the corner of the stairs, Hu Lian said silently in his heart: "Principal, take care..." Turning his head, he said to Gu Zhutong, "General Manager, please send me a plane. I want to return immediately Double stack!" One plane went and one plane returned, but no rescuer was brought back, and there was a sense of tragedy in the air. However, during the two days of going back and forth, the situation of Shuangduiji was deteriorating day by day.Following the uprising of the 110th Division led by Liao Yunzhou, the only remaining 23rd Division of the 85th Army, also led by division commander Huang Zihua, surrendered to the PLA last night. With Huang Zihua gone, and the loss of more than a dozen villages in the past two days, Shuangduiji has no outer barriers to speak of, leaving only a few core strongholds such as Dawangzhuang, Jiangudui, and Yangweizi. Hu Lian looked down through the porthole of the plane, and the scene on the battlefield was also very different from when he first came.At that time, the trenches of the People's Liberation Army spread out like spider webs, and it was still possible to concentrate on breaking through. But now, the shrinking encirclement made those trenches look like a tightened noose, strangling the throats of the double piles.Taking a closer look, the densely packed trenches are like huge fingerprints, reminding Hu Lian of the palm of the Tathagata Buddha. The pilot asked if he wanted to land, but Hu Lian didn't say anything, just nodded heavily. As soon as the plane landed, Huang Wei walked up to meet Hu Lian, and scolded Hu Lian with both joy and resentment: "What are you doing when you come to such a field? If you break through, it's better to be by my side in Nanjing to urge you to drop supplies. , it’s better for you to rebuild the Corps in Nanjing and take care of your family members than die with me.” A sad smile flashed across Hu Lian's sunken cheeks: "You haven't seen the principal's sad face! There is an ancient saying, 'There is no escape from disaster'. I...let's not talk about these, let's arrange the breakout plan first. .” Huang Wei and Hu Lian convened the commanders of each army to study and deploy the breakout plan, and then walked out of the Corps command post together to inspect the troops at the front of the position. The bitter north wind blows head-on, and the wilderness is covered with white frost and snow.Wherever they went, what they saw was more chilling than the natural climate. Shuangdui Market Town has changed beyond recognition, and all residential houses have been built fortifications. There are bunkers, trenches and traffic trenches all over the street, like bruised and dismembered corpses spread out in the winter field. To the east and south of the town, there is a strange "automobile defense line" formed by more than 800 American-made "Dougie" trucks as the skeleton and piled up with soil.I am afraid that American automakers will be amazed and shed tears of sadness when they see this unparalleled "creation".What is even more appalling is the spiral fortification built by the 18th Army on the sharp valley pile. The periphery of the fortification was actually piled up with the corpses of more than 600 soldiers of the Jiang army, poured with muddy water, and frozen in the severe cold. Human Wall". The more than 20 days of "holding and waiting for help" has become a veritable "holding and waiting for death".Everything that can be eaten around the town, including grain seeds, sweet potatoes and vegetables, chickens, ducks, pigs, cattle and sheep, donkeys, dogs, rabbits, cats and mice, is exhausted. From far and near, there were terrifying wailings from time to time. It was the troops killing the only remaining army horses to satisfy their hunger.Everything that could be burned, including furniture, doors and windows, trees, straw, wheat straw, and even coffin boards buried in the ground were dug out and burned. The ponds and wells in the villages were almost drained due to the large number of people. Hunger and severe cold are always threatening people's lives. The rations of more than 100,000 people in the entire corps, the fodder for more than 4,000 military horses, the shells of more than 1,000 cannons, the bullets of tens of thousands of machine guns, rifles, submachine guns, and all other military supplies consume at least 200 tons every day.And there were several airdrops, compared to the huge amount of equipment supplies, it was just a drop in the bucket.Whenever the hungry and crazy soldiers saw the plane approaching the sky, they swarmed to the airdrop field, fighting each other, fighting for a little food scattered, and even sweeping with their submachine guns.Often the person who was fighting was shot and fell down, and someone came up to fight again, so someone opened fire... The most chilling thing is the field hospital called "living hell" near the airport, where tens of thousands of wounded soldiers are concentrated, and the sound of groans, wailing, screams and curses can be heard for miles , as if in the underworld.
