Second Field Army 王玉彬 18987Words 2018-03-18
July to August 1948 Wuhan Xiangyang Nanjing Baofeng Bai Chongxi sat again on the white rattan cool chair in this small Western-style building in Wuhan. On May 23rd, Chiang Kai-shek summoned Bai Chongxi at his official residence. The two sat side by side on the sofa.Chiang Kai-shek first talked about the national war situation and how important the strategic position of central China was, and then said with great reluctance to give up his love: "Brother Jiansheng, you are an outstanding military strategist in China. This is obvious to all and recognized at home and abroad. I think How would you like to ask you to be the commander-in-chief of the Bandit Suppression Headquarters in Central China, stationed in Wuhan, and command the military in Central China?"

Bai Chongxi loves to listen to compliments, but he has to guard against them. During the "National Congress", Bai Chongxi and his wife Ma Peizhang spared no effort to escort Li Zongren to run for vice president, which annoyed Chiang Kai-shek.He worried about Chiang Kai-shek's revenge. Bai Chongxi pondered for a moment, intending to let Chiang Kai-shek feel that he was as clear as a mirror, and knew the real intention behind this "valuation", and then slowly said: "A soldier takes obedience as his bounden duty, and I have to accept the appointment of the chairman. The establishment of the Suppression General should take the defense of Nanjing, the political center, as its basic task. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to establish the strategic policy of "defending the Yangtze River must first defend the Huaihe River". Summarizing the experience and lessons of the Jiujiang Command in the past few months, The army of the Central Plains must be commanded in a unified manner and cannot be used separately. It is recommended to set up the general suppression in Bengbu so that it can be close to Nanjing, use offensive defense in the Jianghuai mountain range between Xu and Bang, and persist in long-term combat——" Chiang Kai-shek waved his hand and interrupted Bai Chongxi: "I It is planned to set up two theaters in central China, with Hankou as the Central China Suppression Command, and another Suppression Command in Xuzhou, which will be headed by Liu Jingfu (Liu Zhi). In this way, the two theaters can fight side by side and help each other."

Bai Chongxi's suppressed fire burst into flames.Originally "released" from Nanjing was an insult to him, but it is too much to bring out Liu Zhi who was "lost" in Zhengzhou to be compared with him and keep pace with him!He took a sip of tea, suppressed his anger, and said, "The army of the Central Plains will be divided and used, and there is no doubt that it will lose in the future. This issue is of great importance, please consider it before discussing it." Unexpectedly, without waiting for Bai Chongxi to "consider", Chiang Kai-shek announced the personnel transfer plan to the world.Bai Chongxi rushed forward in anger, swearing at the table, and left without saying goodbye with his wife, and ran to the newly bought mansion in Shanghai.

Chiang Kai-shek originally wanted to ignore the "playing tricks" of the leader of the Guangxi faction, but the situation was tense and it was time to use troops; and Bai Chongxi swore that "the Han and the bandits should not stand side by side", his words and deeds were consistent, and his determination to "suppress the bandits" was obvious to all.In addition, the United States also had repercussions. Leighton Stuart sent a report to Marshall saying: "Bai Chongxi was dismissed from the position of Minister of Defense, probably because he helped Li Zongren in the election of the vice president of the National University... Jiang seems to suspect that the 'Gui faction' conspired against him, As a result, those who have been loyal to himself and the country's interests have been alienated. Or, at least, they are losing their effective cooperation." Therefore, Chiang Kai-shek had to move in the face of Bai Chongxi's "throwing down the pick".However, he would not make greater concessions because of this, but patiently sent Wu Zhongxin to Shanghai to persuade Bai Chongxi to return to Nanjing to accept a new appointment.

Bai Chongxi ignored it. Zhang Qun suggested: "If you want to move Bai Jiansheng, there is a good lobbyist - Huang Shaohong." Huang Shaohong's style name is Jikuan, and he and Bai Chongxi are "classmates" and confidantes. This person not only plays an important role in the Guangxi Clan, but also is a military and political celebrity because of his resourcefulness, wide acquaintance, and many friends.Chiang Kai-shek had put a lot of effort into wanting Huang to use him for himself, and Huang was inseparable, detached and at ease. On the day of Duanyang Festival, Chiang Kai-shek invited Huang Shaohong to the official residence for lunch under the pretext of "celebrating Duanyang", and made an exception and took a sip of wine. After the meal, Chiang Kai-shek said: "Mr. Ji Kuan, I would like to invite you to visit Shanghai, and persuade Brother Jiansheng to put the party and the country's agenda first, and go to Wuhan to take office."

On the same day, Huang Shaohong flew to Shanghai. When we met, Bai Chongxi was still angry: "That person sent you here, it took so much effort!" Huang Shaohong did not explain, but asked instead: "You have been an official in Nanjing for the past few years, how have you been?" "What else can I do? With Chen Xiaogui (referring to Chen Cheng) making troubles, what else can I, the Minister of Defense, do?! Since ancient times, there has never been a general who has a powerful minister inside and a general outside." Huang Shaohong couldn't help laughing: "Now that things have happened, do you still have hope in them? You're a 'little Zhuge', you are really not 'bright'..."

Bai Chongxi was taken aback for a moment, and stared at Huang Shaohong in surprise, not knowing why. Huang Shaohong said: "This battle with the Communist Party cannot be fought. Chiang Kai-shek commanded the battle like this, and he had to lose all his capital! Brother Jiansheng! You have been in Nanjing for the past few years, and you have done a lot. But no matter how big it is, it’s nothing more than a bird in a cage. Those who know the current affairs are outstanding. Now, Chiang Kai-shek let you out, why don’t you hurry up and fly away?” Bai Chongxi was thoughtful, and Huang Shaohong continued to point out, “There are several troops in Guangxi in Central China, you should hurry up and fly away.” Go out and grasp it. Once the time is right, you can create a situation outside and force Chiang Kai-shek to step down; let Delin (Li Zongren) come out to take charge and advocate peace talks, wouldn’t it be good in one fell swoop?”

The world only knows that Bai Chongxi is "little Zhuge", but they don't know that Huang Shaohong is "brighter" than little Zhuge.Bai Chongxi's resentment suddenly disappeared. In mid-June, Bai Chongxi returned to Nanjing and took office on the 28th of that month. At the same time as the "General Suppression" in Central China was established, Chiang Kai-shek ordered the revocation of Wuhan Xingyuan, and Central China really became Bai Chongxi's domination of the world. Over the past few days, Bai Chongxi has been relaxed and happy, thinking that he can take advantage of this to rise and dominate the south of the Yangtze River. His strategic layout is: use Zhang Zhen's troops to defend the point, Zhang Gan's corps for maneuvering, and Chen Mingren's 29th Army and local troops for "clearing and suppressing" the territory. He proudly called this "firepower overwhelms firepower, speed overwhelms speed, and depth breaks through depth."

Yesterday, the intelligence system reported that the main force of the communist army was fighting in eastern Henan; there was no major force in central China, and there would be no major military operations.Bai Chongxi felt relieved again, and planned to inspect the territory under his jurisdiction, and called Kang Ze, the commander of the 15th Appeasement Zone stationed in Xiangfan, and told him to fly to him first on July 2. The small wind carried the birdsong, blowing Bai Chongxi leisurely and drunk, drifting half into a dream. Kang Ze's telegram shattered Bai Chongxi's dreams: Bai Chongxi stood up from the cool chair: "Nonsense! The communist army is fighting in chaos in eastern Henan. Where did he get the communist army? Fifty or sixty thousand, fell from the sky?"

Kang Ze sent a telegram to Bai Chongxi, and he couldn't believe the sudden war.He asked Dong Yisan, director of the intelligence department: "What kind of troops attacked Laohekou?" In the past few days, Dong Yisan received information from the Central China Intelligence Station every day, saying that all the main forces of the Communist Army were fighting in eastern Henan. The intelligence changed his "face" in an instant, and he was also confused: "Liu Bocheng's main force was transferred eastward and put into the battlefield in eastern Henan—not only the Central China Intelligence, but also the Ministry of National Defense Intelligence Office."

Kang Ze asked: "Then how to explain the situation in Laohekou?" The deputy commander, Guo Xunqi, had fought more battles, and interjected, "Don't worry, it might be a feint by a small band of rogues. Director Dong, please call Laohekou's intelligence team to investigate again!" Kang Ze slumped on the chair, the good mood of the day was completely ruined. July 1, 1948 was Kang Ze's forty-fourth birthday. Early in the morning, the cars and poles were all ready, officials and guards surrounded Kang Ze and left the city; a sumptuous banquet was prepared at Guting Mountain Spring, and a unique birthday picnic was held; a camp bed was also brought for Kang Ze to drink repose. The mountain spring is ding-dong, the wind is light and the grass is fresh, so pleasant.Kang Ze, who likes to be arty, stands at the foot of Hutou Mountain, watching the ancestral hall of the author of "Han Jin Chunqiu" in the Eastern Jin Dynasty-Xi Chiuchi, with great interest. After the picnic, lying drunk on the camp bed in the ancient pavilion, Kang Ze wanted to compose a few impromptu poems, but unexpectedly touched the strings of his forty-four-year life, and his thoughts flew like ember butterflies. Looking back at life, Chiang Kai-shek can be described as his mentor who knows how to meet. After graduating from the Whampoa Military Academy that year, Chiang Kai-shek sent him to Moscow Sun Yat-sen University for further studies. After returning to China, he secretly reported to Chiang Kai-shek the activities and list of leftist students at Sun Yat-sen University in Moscow. This kind of espionage ability was greatly appreciated, and Jiang kept him by his side from then on, engaged in security and serving as an attendant, and later specialized in espionage and party affairs. a member of The mission of the Fuxing Society was to fight against the Communist Party and eliminate dissidents for Chiang Kai-shek. Its organizational members spread across the Kuomintang party, government, military, and cultural and educational departments. All political trainers in the army were members of the Fuxing Society. It is conceivable that Kang Ze has great power. At the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War, Chiang Kai-shek merged the secret organizations of the Kuomintang, such as the CC faction and the Fuxing Society, to form an open organization, the Sanqingtuan.Chiang Kai-shek himself served as the head of the regiment, and Kang Ze served as the head of the organization department with real power for seven years.During this period, Chiang Kai-shek obeyed Kang Ze's words, and Kang Ze became a very popular figure in the Kuomintang.Until 1946, Chiang Kai-shek wanted to improve Chiang Ching-kuo's leadership in the Kuomintang, and ordered him to replace Kang Ze as the head of the organization department of the Three Youth League, and put him idle in the name of sending Kang Ze to the United States to "investigate" youth work. . Kang Ze's heart was cold for a few days, but unexpectedly he was reused soon after returning to China. He really didn't expect that he could be the commander of the 15th appeasement zone. Many of Chiang Kai-shek's capable generals, the first and second-term students of the Whampoa Military Academy who have been soldiers and horses for a lifetime, are also the commanders of the corps and the appeasement area, and most of them are army commanders and division commanders. And he, a third-term student of the Kangze Whampoa Military Academy, has never been a division or regimental commander in the regular army except for spy and party affairs.Chiang Kai-shek is worthy of him if he is on the rise and appointed as a commander. Before taking office, Chiang Kai-shek summoned Kang Ze: "Xiangyang is located in an important point, and it has always been a strategic point that military strategists must contend for. It is an important town to defend Wuhan and Sichuan, so I send you there." "Principal, don't worry, I know there is a great responsibility to go here. It's just...it's close to the west of Henan, and the troops of Liu Deng and Chen Geng are all leaning there. I wonder if there are enough troops in the Xiangfan area?" "This... this, there are three Sichuan Army brigades... I am going to give you the command of the 65th Division, the 85th Division, the 203rd Division, and maybe the 20th Division. These troops are enough to deal with that area the communist army." After being summoned, Kang Ze began to worry. The four divisions Chiang Kai-shek mentioned were still just pictures; Listen to dispatch. After thinking about it, he recommended Guo Xunqi, who was born in the Sichuan Army, as his deputy commander, so that he could control the Sichuan Army through Guo.After all, he was originally a spy, and he also named Dong Yisan, the deputy director of the Communication Department of the Military Command, as his intelligence director. At the beginning of the year, Kang Ze arrived in Wuhan and found that the situation was not good.Of the three brigades, one was stationed in Fancheng, one was stationed in Laohekou, and one was still in Henan. The field troops of the communist army and the local troops in the controlled area often operated at the junction of Henan and Hubei. Xiangfan was disturbed every day, and it was extremely restless. Kang Ze lived in Wuhan for more than a month, and several divisions that Chiang Kai-shek had promised him had not yet been transferred. At this time, a major war was brewing in the Central Plains. The 65th Division was fighting in Shangqiu, Henan; fierce.Originally, the troops were not enough to deal with them, and there is no fighting in Xiangfan area, so of course they can't be transferred here to "idle".What the Ministry of Defense said made sense, so Kang Ze had no choice but to give up.But Chiang Kai-shek still came forward and transferred the 23rd Brigade of the 85th Division to Xiangyang as the "Imperial Forest Army" to escort Kang Ze. Although Kang Ze was unhappy, he couldn't say anything.Having been in the upper echelons of the Kuomintang for many years, he knows the inside story; no matter whether he is a descendant or a miscellaneous brand, if he wants to become an official, especially a high-ranking official, he has to pull his own team. With the army, Chiang Kai-shek will give you an official title; without the army, everything will be lost. Therefore, military groups will do anything to annex other people's armies. Now he, Kang Ze, wants to bring several editors under his wing at once, which is tantamount to gouging out other people's flesh. How easy is it? In early March, Kang Ze boarded a transport plane, took off from Wuhan, and took up his post in Xiangyang. When it flew over Xiangfan, Kang Ze ordered the plane to circle the sky. The geographical location of Xiangyang is really rare.It is tightly surrounded by the vast Han River from east to north to northwest.Fancheng faces it across the river on the north bank, making it an ideal bridgehead. Its south and southwest are closely connected with the city are Yanghu Mountain, Fenghuang Mountain, Hutou Mountain and other highlands that almost form an equilateral triangle.Hutou Mountain descends in steps from west to north along the city, and there are several continuous hills of Pipa Mountain and Zhenwu Mountain, like a thick arm hugging Xiangyang firmly from south to west.Xiangyang City is located between this water belt and one arm.The Han River is not easy to cross, and the several mountains echo each other. It is really a dangerous place that is easy to defend and difficult to attack. "Historical Records" records: "Xiangyang, the gate of the upper class, leads to Ru Road in the north, leads to Qin and Shu in the west, covers Huguang in the south, and overlooks Guanyue in the east. If you want to retreat to the left of the river, Xiangyang is not as good as Jianye; if you want to enter the Central Plains, Jianye is not as good as Xiangyang. If you are fighting against bandits, then Jianye and Xiangyang are the left and right arm.” This historic city was the place where the ancient battlefield was fought for a long time.In the Warring States Period, Wu Zixu trained his generals, in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Sun Jian crossed the river to attack Liu Biao, and in the Three Kingdoms, Guan Yu flooded the Seventh Army, all here. The well-known story of "Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage" happened in Longzhong under Wolonggang in the west of the city; Zhongliang Yuefei in the Song Dynasty also defeated the Jin soldiers here; at the end of the Ming Dynasty, King Li Chuang led an uprising to Huguang, and once established his capital here and became king... When he arrived in Xiangyang, Kang Ze inspected the city walls first. The surrounding walls are more than three feet high, with battlements everywhere, and the top of the wall is more than two feet wide; the gates are thick and sealed with iron sheets. The north gate faces the natural barrier of the Han River; the east, south, and west are surrounded by moats that are two feet wide and one foot deep.Kang Ze even praised: "There are mountains, rivers and fortified cities, and the five columns of the Communist army will never want to capture this iron-clad Xiangyang." He immediately deployed the defense of the whole region: the 163rd Brigade with strong combat effectiveness was stationed at Laohekou, the gateway to the northwest of Xiangyang; the 164th Brigade was stationed in Fancheng; the 104th Brigade was used to defend Xiangyang; The brigade's teaching team, the gendarmerie company and the newly established secret service battalion and other protection headquarters. Kang Ze ordered to step up the construction of fortifications.Commanding heights such as Yanghu Mountain, Hutou Mountain, and Cross Mountain have built a large number of bunkers, bunkers, and traffic ditches, and densely planted mines on traffic arteries, dead ends of firepower, and vast areas, forming a solid defense system that can support each other... Although the 44-year life course is gloomy, it has unique scenery.Even though he was in a mountain city on his forty-fourth birthday, he was supreme, with a certain aloofness. It wasn't until about three o'clock in the afternoon that Kang Ze returned home. Xiangyang is not big, so the commander's birthday is naturally a great event, and the news spread like wildfire. As a result, local civil and military officials, gentry and wealthy families all came to celebrate the birthday.Kang Ze ordered a big banquet and invited famous actors from Fancheng to sing. At the climax, the actress lightly sips her sleeves for the commander and recites "Longevity".A staff officer from the No. 2 Office rushed in and whispered to Dong Yisan: "The communist army is attacking Laohekou, and the attack is very fierce." Dong Yisan was stunned, ignoring the spoiler, and reported to Kang Ze bravely. In order to stabilize the commander's mood, he lied that he had been notified to deal with it.Kang Ze didn't seem to understand at first, without any expression on his face, and then nodded.Although he still maintained his composure on the surface, he was already panicked inside, persisted for a while, and let the meeting end hastily. Kang Ze arrived at the headquarters in a panic, and the deputy commander Guo Xunqi, the directors of the intelligence department and the directors of the combat department were already waiting. He asked about the situation, and although he couldn't believe it, he still said to Dong Yisan: "Quickly, quickly report to Commander-in-Chief Bai, please don't come here for now!" In the evening, Kang Ze finally received a detailed report from Lao Hekou: (1) The battle was fierce, with heavy casualties on both sides, and it was not a feint attack; (2) The accents of the communist army mostly belong to the area of southern Shanxi and northern Henan; (3) There are two kinds of clothing, black and gray; (4) Weapons and equipment are relatively good. Guo Xunqi said: "The troops attacking Laohekou must be a field force." Dong Yisan said: "It's really strange. It is not understandable to say that they are not the field army, and the battle will not be so fierce; it is not understandable to say that he is. Suddenly, where did they come from?" Hu Xuexi, the chief of the combat department, looked pale: "The origin of this communist army is unknown, and its combat effectiveness is very strong. I think it's better to be cautious!" Kang Ze looked at Guo Xunqi: "Deputy Commander, what do you think?" Guo Xunqi said: "I think they are coming to Xiangyang. It is better to withdraw the 163rd Brigade to Xiangyang. First, it can reduce casualties, and second, it can strengthen Xiangyang's defense." Kang Ze nodded: "That's it, order the 163rd Brigade to retreat to Xiangyang along the south bank of the Han River." The 163rd Brigade withdrew from Laohekou and retreated towards Xiangyang.Unexpectedly, a communist army suddenly broke out on the way. The 163rd Brigade was in shock and rushed to deal with it. The troops were beaten to pieces. Kang Ze ordered the 163rd Brigade to return to Xiangyang to "stand firm", but the brigade commander of the 163rd Brigade was afraid that the troops would be wiped out, so the designation was revoked; gone forever. The sun is scorching, the top of Wanshan Mountain is jagged with strange rocks, and shrubs half a person's height grow all over the mountain.Eight or nine people in gray and black military uniforms stood here for more than two hours.Eight miles away is Xiangyang City. A man with small eyes, a short stature, and a strong body like a small steel cannon put down the binoculars in his hand and asked the left and right: "What long-range and heavy artillery are there in Xiangyang City?" "Apart from the 82 mortars, the most powerful ones are the 8 chemical mortars." "Well, there is no long-range gun, that's fine!" He shook off the sweat on his face, and asked again, "Can the enemy's heavy machine gun fire on the mountain block our east-west attack road?" "The firepower on several main positions is blocked by the hills below, and we cannot directly block our offensive road. The biggest threats to the offensive road are Pipa Mountain, Zhenwu Mountain, and Wenbi Peak." He smiled and clapped his hands vigorously: "Haha... Now Kang Ze is in our hands!" He is Wang Jinshan, thirty-eight years old, commander of the sixth column of Liu Deng's army. This all-powerful general was seriously injured in the Battle of Northern Henan, and returned to the field after recovering from his injury.Standing beside him are You Taizhong, Commander of the Sixteenth Brigade of the Sixth Column, Li Desheng, Commander of the Seventeenth Brigade, and Xiao Yongyin, Commander of the Eighteenth Brigade. Commander of the Twelfth Brigade of the Military Region. The battle in the east of Henan was fierce, and suddenly a team to attack Xiangyang appeared. This was a pawn buried in Liu Bocheng's "chess game". In early June, just three days after the end of the Wandong Campaign, Liu Bocheng held a column leadership meeting.Everyone thought that the commander was going to summarize the Wandong campaign, but unexpectedly he said at the beginning: "The task of our Central Plains area is to lead the war to the area under Jiang's control, use the enemy's manpower and material resources to destroy the enemy's vital forces, and turn this area into a war in the direction of the enemy. A base for attacking from the east, south, and west. The situation in the Central Plains is like a big game of chess. The enemy and the enemy are gathered together, facing each other. But this game of chess is not easy to move, and the whole body is affected by one move; one wrong move, All lose. There are three mountains and four rivers in the Central Plains. We rely on the three mountains to compete in the Central Plains and turn the four rivers into our inland rivers. The Yellow River and the Huaihe River have become inland rivers. Next, we will develop southeast with the Wudang Mountains behind. The Hanshui River Basin is the ancient On the battlefield, we want to turn the Han River into our inland river. On the joint defense line of Liu Zhi, Bai Chongxi, and Zhang Zhizhong, the Han River area is its biggest weakness. This area can not only cross the river, but also enter Sichuan, and it is the junction of the enemy. Irreparable. The next campaign is to move to Xiangfan and Laohekou, first to scout the situation, and then suddenly capture and defend the enemy to encircle and wipe them out!" On June 13, Nakano issued the combat order for the Laohekou and Xiangyang campaigns, planning to form the Western Corps with the second and fourth columns, and the Southern Corps with the sixth column and the main force of the Tongbai Military Region, under the unified command of Tongbai Military Region Commander Wang Hongkun , Launched an attack on Laohekou and Xiangfan in late June.At this time, the Huaye Su Corps launched the Battle of Eastern Henan.Starting from the overall strategy, Liu Deng ordered to suspend the Battle of Laoxiang, and speed up the first, second, third, and fourth columns to Pinghan Road to contain the enemy's reinforcements; however, the sixth column was left alone in the Tanghe area on standby. Liu Bocheng and the newly appointed Chen Yi led their troops to stop the enemy, and Wang Jinshan, commander of the sixth column, was in a state of anxiety. With the enemy at hand, why just leave them alone? He called for a fight and asked to pull troops to the front line.Liu Bocheng called back: "Take a good rest." The sixth column of Nakano was good at fighting, crossing the Yellow River, laying down Dingtao, gathering six battalions ingeniously, fighting hard on Yangshan Mountain, fighting fiercely on Ruhe River, and made great achievements in battle. In the archives of the National Defense Ministry of the Kuomintang, it is recorded as follows: This information was quite accurate, not only did he find out the name of the commander, but also the characteristics of the troops. However, the sixth column is actually a young force, which was only formed in November 1945.It is precisely because of the innovation that Liu Deng grasped more and grasped more tightly, so the quality and combat level of the troops improved extremely quickly. The "People's Daily" in the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Liberated Area once published an editorial "Learning from the Six Columns", which is the only unit in the region to receive this honor. The commander of the sixth column, Wang Jinshan, was nicknamed "Crazy Wang".He joined the Red Army at the age of fifteen, and always ran forward in every battle, and he couldn't change his temper until he became the commander of a column; so that every time he fought, there were always six or seven guards following him, and when he saw him lose his temper , drag him back. His spirit of "burning the grass" is well-known in the whole army: whenever there is a hard bone, he rushes to "gnaw", and he comes up with the posture of breaking the boat - he said "burning the grass", that is to say, he will go all out.Over time, even Mao Zedong knew about him as the "crazy king", and jokingly praised him: "This 'crazy king' is so crazy!" Liu Deng loved this general very much. They left him and his troops in the rear to rest. Of course, they wanted to use them—at the end of June, when Sui Qi was fighting the most intensely, the enemies in the Hanshui area were unable to take care of them. Deng turned his attention to Xiangfan. Deng Xiaoping said: "We want to win this game by surprise. The main force of Huaye is fighting fiercely in the east of Henan, and the main force of central field is holding the enemy on the southern line on the Ping-Han line. The Sixth Column just launched a 'side car' to attack Xiangyang." Liu Bocheng said: "It's time, let's get out of the 'sidecar'!" Immediately, the Nakano Command ordered Wang Jinshan and Wang Hongkun to launch the Xiangfan Campaign. Although the sixth column is the "fist" unit of the middle field, shortly after it came out of the Dabie Mountains, its personnel and weapons were greatly depleted, and each brigade left a regiment to persist in the Dabie Mountains. At present, there are only six regiments in the whole vertical, and they don't even have heavy weapons.Liu Deng raised their concerns.Wang Jinshan stated: "A military order is issued today, and I will fight resolutely in the six verticals! If there is one brigade left after fighting, I will be the brigade commander; if there is one regiment left, I will be the regiment commander; if there is one company left, I will be the company commander!" I was driven crazy by Liu Bocheng's "leading but not sending out". "Crazy King" is not a reckless person. After accepting the task, he and Wang Hongkun analyzed the situation of the enemy and ourselves in detail, and after careful planning, they took Laohekou on July 2.On July 4th, the troops from the third branch of Tongbai surrounded Fancheng on the north bank of the Han River, and the rest of the troops approached Xiangyang along the south bank of the Han River. The first stage of the campaign was completed. On July 6, the second phase of the campaign began. Both Liu and Deng had instructions to attack Xiangyang.Liu Bocheng said: "We need to use more dialectics. Under certain conditions, the most dangerous place is often the safest and most important. If you take this point, you will win the whole game. It is up to you to use your brain to judge where to start." Deng Xiaoping said: "When attacking Xiangyang, we must look at the overall situation and make a comprehensive plan. It is like cutting meat, which piece to cut first, and which piece to cut later; whether to cut fat or thin, you must know." Wang Jinshan couldn't take his eyes off the map when he returned from looking at the terrain in Wanshan.A general who is to be a successful actor in the great drama of war must, first of all, study the field of battle carefully, so that he may see the advantages and disadvantages of the situation on both sides. Two days later, Wang Jinshan invited Wang Hongkun and several of his brigade commanders. He said: "I want to make an exception, ignore the mountains, and go straight to the west gate from the corridor below the mountain, and attack Xiangyang!" Wang Hongkun took a deep breath and said nothing.Historically, when attacking Xiangyang, they first seized the mountains and then attacked the city-Xiangyang's natural terrain is a safe way to attack the city. Li Desheng said: "Will you encounter flanking attacks from the enemy's troops inside and outside the city?" Wang Jinshan: "In the past few days, I have been thinking about a question-what is the enemy relying on? Mountains. They just want to use these mountains to compete with us and delay time. If they attack mountains, they will be in their arms. And if we Leaving aside the mountain, attacking the city directly is like a tiger digging out its heart. The enemy is caught off guard, and the firepower of the mountain cannot reach our siege troops. It is even more terrifying if the enemy goes down the mountain—it is easy to deal with him if he is separated from the fortifications and has less than two regiments of troops. " Wang Hongkun: "Just now I thought it was risky, but what Commander Wang said made sense." The brigade commanders were interested in the commander's analysis. These brigade commanders were all chosen by Wang Jinshan himself, and all of them had both courage and aura. After being instructed by the commander, they immediately understood his train of thought. Xiao Yongyin said: "Commander Liu instructed us to use more dialectics, saying that under certain conditions, the most dangerous places are often the safest and most important. From the perspective of Xiangyang city defense, the main attack on Ximen is in line with this principle." Wang Jinshan smiled: "The hero sees the same thing, my plan is to focus on Ximen." Li Desheng said: "To attack Ximen, you must break through three barriers—Pipa Mountain, Zhenwu Mountain, and the Iron Buddha Temple outside Xiguan." "Okay, cut three passes with a knife! Li Desheng, this task is entrusted to you by the Seventeenth Brigade." You Taizhong saw that the commander had considered quite maturely, and even decided to cut off the troops, so he hurriedly said, "What about the mission of our Sixteenth Brigade?" "It's yours to fight - after breaking through three passes, divide the troops into two groups, break through Xiangyang from the east and west gates, and force the enemy to abandon the mountain. Commander Wang (Hongkun), please invite the Tongbai Independent Regiment and the Twelfth Brigade in southern Shaanxi Still continue to attack Fenghuang Mountain and Wenbi Peak, creating the illusion that I will continue to attack the mountain, restrain and confuse the enemy, so as to catch the enemy's surprise and attack the unprepared effect." The Nakano headquarters appreciated Wang Jinshan's report on the combat plan of "abandoning the mountains and attacking the city, focusing on Ximen".Liu Bocheng smiled all over his face: "Xiangyang is already in my hands! This Wang Jinshan is really clever!" Chen Yi tapped the table with his fan and said, "This 'Crazy Wang' is still a master at playing dangerous chess!" Deng Xiaoping had strict requirements on his subordinates, and he was not easy to praise people, especially the cadres at the first level of the column, but at this time he also said: "Wang Jinshan has two rare things. One is that he can take the initiative to ask to fight a tough battle that others complain about. Courage; the second is to pay attention to fighting tough battles, this is a strategy, and you can have both.” Nakano immediately called Wang Jinshan back: Fully agree with the combat plan.Sui Qi had already achieved great victory, and Bai Chongxi's main force was restrained on the front line of Zhoujiakou; as for Wang Lingyun of Nanyang, the second column was sent to monitor and stop him, and it was guaranteed that the reinforcements would not reach Xiangyang within ten days. The worries about the future can be completely relieved, and I hope that the attack will be stepped up as planned. Wang Jinshan ordered the troops: "The Battle of Xiangfan will never stop until a complete victory is achieved. It is not a complete victory if the three tasks are not completed." These three tasks are: first, capture 10,000 prisoners; second, capture chemical artillery; , Capture Kang Ze alive. On July 9th, when the afterglow of the sun was gone and the moon had not yet risen, the four mountain cannons began to attack Pipa Mountain. Pipa Mountain is not too high, and two tall blockhouses stand on the top of the mountain like a pair of crab claws, blocking the Xiguan Corridor fiercely.Amidst the thick smoke, the vanguard cut open the barbed wire fence in front of the rock wall with a guillotine. Li Desheng's command post moved forward again and again, and as soon as the order to charge was issued, Wang Jinshan's call came after him: "Quick! Quick! The attack must be fierce and reckless! Thinking carefully is a matter before the battle, now we must rush forward recklessly! Stopping under enemy fire is death! Let the troops suddenly overwhelm the enemy like crazy!" The soldiers of the third battalion really seemed crazy. The head of the regiment, Gou Zaihe, charged together with the troops, like a tiger descending the mountain. They lit piles of bonfires, a sign of the progress of the battle.Wang Jinshan held up the binoculars - at the beginning, the orange-red signal was still at the foot of the mountain, and it reached the mountainside after 25 minutes, and "orange-red" reached the top of the mountain in less than an hour. Although Pipa Mountain was taken down, our army paid a high price in the fierce battle. The head of the 49th regiment, Gou Zaihe, died. With hatred on their bayonets, the soldiers killed all the stubborn enemies on the hill. While the 17th Brigade was attacking Pipa Mountain, the Second Shannan Brigade and the Third Division of Tongbai successively controlled the positions of Fenghuang Mountain and Tiemao Mountain with the techniques of attack and night touch. Kang Ze was looking to the west, and when he saw that two hilltops were lost in the south, he panicked. The loss of Nanshan endangered the whole city, so troops were dispatched to strengthen Nanshan. This is right in the arms of Wang Jinshan. As soon as the troops in the west were reduced, the siege troops immediately aimed at Zhenwu Mountain. Kang Ze lost sight of one thing and got confused. His ability was not in commanding and fighting. At this moment, he only felt that his head was getting bigger and heavier, and he hurriedly gathered big and small leaders to study countermeasures.Yi Qian, the deputy chief of staff, advocated attacking, so why wait to be beaten?Hu Xuexi, the director of the combat department, insisted that he could only defend, and that attacking was tantamount to killing his life in vain! Guo Xunqi was steady, and repeated a sentence: "Stick to the stronghold, don't retreat!" After arguing for a long time, no countermeasures came out, which only increased Kang Ze's irritability: "Stop arguing! It's better to report to Nanjing and Wuhan, and ask for reinforcements to rescue Xiangyang." And so a new quarrel arose.Dong Yisan insisted that the communist siege force consisted of five brigades, about 10,000 people.Hu Xuexi said that Dong Yisan's intelligence was unreliable, and that there were at least 50,000 to 60,000 siege troops.Dong Yisan became angry: "You are lying about the military situation!" Hu Xuexi sneered: "Okay, okay. I lied, I exaggerated! You reported so few enemy troops, will the higher-ups send you more reinforcements? What is the purpose of the report? If you don't send reinforcements, the situation is so urgent, Director Dong, you Come up with a good plan." Dong Yisan is the chief of the intelligence department, so he must of course consider his own interests: "There must be a basis for overreporting. Otherwise, I, the chief of the intelligence department, will not be responsible for the investigation!" Kang Ze naturally hopes to report more, so that he can kill three birds with one stone: first, he can ask for more reinforcements to rescue the siege; Shou is neither incompetent nor innocent.Kang Ze remained calm, and waved his hand: "Okay. Let me think about it, and I will report." After everyone left, Kang Ze added some numbers to the siege troops reported by Hu Xuexi, and urgently called Chiang Kai-shek and Bai Chongxi. Bai Chongxi always felt that it was not useful to have a spy chief like Kang Ze in his territory, so he didn't want to pay attention after receiving the call; but he thought that if Kang Ze was wiped out and the communist army occupied Xiangyang, it would be like a fire in the backyard, and his life would be difficult; Pressing his grievances, he sent a telegram to Kang Ze: "Abandon Fancheng immediately, concentrate secretly, and hold on to Xiangyang with all our strength to wait for help. The Seventh Division and other departments have been ordered to come to help. Because it takes time to deploy troops, we must stick to it until July 22." Li Desheng led his troops to break through the first hurdle and then the second hurdle. Zhenwu Mountain is high and steep, with layers of bright and dark fortresses.Surrounded by a river at the foot of the mountain, it is called Tanxi. When Liu Bei fled Xiangyang and crossed the water, he was talking about this Tanxi River. This mountain is two miles away from the city. As soon as the siege team launched an attack, Kang Ze ordered chemical artillery to bombard Zhenwu Mountain. The phosphorus dioxide produced after the explosion of the yellow phosphorus bomb was boiling, and in an instant, the besieging troops suffocated and fainted. The follow-up troops strangled their noses and mouths with wet towels, and attacked again. The jujube trees all over the mountain pierced the footboard; the enemy plane overhead came to help again, dropping bombs and strafing. However, in just over 20 minutes, the troops attacked the top of the mountain, destroyed more than 30 bunkers, and occupied Zhenwu Mountain. Zhenwu Mountain is known as "a lock of Xiangyang City".After breaking the lock, the fortifications of the drum ring outside the west gate were completely exposed.Head Ma, who was guarding here, couldn't stand it and fled into the west gate. When Kang Ze heard the news, he dropped the phone.Throw away the drum ring, and the communist army will soon come to the city. The troops guarding the South Gate were also shouting that they could not stand it.If they are all withdrawn, is it okay? Kang Ze had to kill the chicken and show it to the monkey. But Kang Ze didn't take this knife himself, and he didn't dare if he didn't have his own troops. But he's good at plotting— Hu Xuexi brought Captain Ma to the headquarters and said that Kang Ze wanted to take him for questioning. After entering the door, only Deputy Commander Guo Xunqi was there.Guo looked worried, and said to the horse: "Ah! You, you, why did you lose the drum ring? Commander Kang lost his temper, and he must be dealt with severely! He just went out, and he must arrest you." !what to do?" Hu Xuexi chimed in and said, "We are well aware of Commander Kang's temper. Although he usually doesn't talk much, once he loses his temper, he must follow orders! The deputy commander should think of a way to do this." Kang Ze, who was hiding in the back room, waited anxiously for Ma's reaction.Commander Ma begged repeatedly: "Deputy, Deputy Commander, I rely on you! You can save this old subordinate no matter what..." Guo Xunqi anxiously walked around the room a few times, seeing the horse's pale face and dripping with cold sweat, he stopped, and said: "There is a way, I wonder if Captain Ma can do it." "Deputy Commander, you showed me the way to survive, how can I not leave? Tell me quickly!" "Okay. Let me ask you, do you dare to go back and take back the drum ring?" "This……" Hu Xuexi said: "As soon as Commander Kang comes back, you can..." "Damn it! I'll take back the drum ring! Anyway, I'm dead!" Guo Xunqi patted the horse on the shoulder: "Mr. Ma is indeed a man! He deserves meritorious deeds to atone for his sins!" aid!aid!aid! "I……" "what is your job?" “我……我是康泽的卫士。” “你不要怕,带我们抓康泽去。” 这个卫士叫傅起戎,他战战兢兢地带着搜索小分队来到通向各碉堡的地道口,说:“可能就在这几条坑道里。” 坑道阴湿狭窄,小分队用一支五节电池的大电筒照明,找了三个来回,还是没有发现康泽。 “翻尸体!”又搜。Corpses were lying here and there in the tunnel.Turned to a corner leading to the watchtower and found a dark hole.战士们用刺刀挑开挡在洞口的尸体,正要往里挑,一条满是血污的胳膊突然伸起来——他的双腿上横压着一具死尸,脊背下枕着一具死尸。这是一个藏在死尸堆里的活人。 傅起戎走近,惊叫“哎呀”,拔腿就跑。 要秉仁抓住傅:“他是谁?” 傅起戎浑身哆嗦:“我……我不敢见他……他……就是康泽!” 战士们把这具“活尸”抬出坑道。Kang Ze was wearing a green shirt, shorts, and one bare foot. His body was
