Fourth Field Army 魏碧海 19165Words 2018-03-18
When Siye's middle and west armies cooperated with Cheng Qian and Chen Mingren's uprising in Hunan, Siye's East Army launched the Southwest Jiangxi Campaign in Jiangxi. This is a part of the overall plan to realize Mao Zedong's great detour strategy, liberate Guangdong first, and finally force the Guangxi army to fight decisively in Guangxi. On July 19, 1949, Lin, Deng, Xiao and others called Deng Hua, Lai Chuanzhu, Hong Xuezhi, He Jinnian, commander of the 48th Army, and Chen Renqi, political commissar: After the Hunan-Jiangxi Campaign, Fang Tian, director of the Jiangxi Appeasement Office, led his remnants to occupy southern Jiangxi, with a total strength of more than 30,000 troops, including 15,000 regular troops. Its main force has been attacked by the Second Field, and the troops are all newly formed, and their combat effectiveness is not strong.

The 48th Army of the 15th Corps of Siye set off from Nanchang and Shanggao areas on July 26 according to the instructions of the wild division, and marched southward along the east and west banks of the Ganjiang River. He Jinnian, commander of the 48th Army, rode a war horse and galloped southward surrounded by a company of guards. He originally had a jeep, but the mountain trails in Jiangxi forced him to change to a long-lost horse. At that time, Fang Tian's main force of about 20,000 people gathered in the Ganzhou area.Commander He's combat intention is: the 142nd Division on the East Road will move south of Ganzhou through Suichuan, occupy Nankang, and cut off Fang Tiannan's escape route to Guangzhou; Enemy in Ganzhou.

If Bai Chongxi's capital is small, then Fang Tian's capital is even smaller, not to mention that his troops have been destroyed by the second field, and the more than 30,000 people gathered now are pure mobs. This frightened group of birds scrambled to escape as soon as they heard the footsteps of the People's Liberation Army.Of course, He Jinnian's intention to gather and wipe out the enemy under the city of Ganzhou could not be realized. The Battle of Southwest Jiangxi turned into a pursuit battle from the very beginning, and both sides competed on the mountain roads in Southwest Jiangxi.

He Jinnian galloped all the way and came to a shady place with towering ancient trees and rushing streams along the roadside. The thirsty war horses couldn't hold back and ran to the side of the road to drink water.Commander He then ordered to rest on the spot, prepare lunch, and at the same time ordered the radio station to set up the antenna. After lunch, the radio station received a telegram from the 144th Division: He Jinnian was furious when he read the telegram: "What's 'unable to cross the river'? Without a boat, you can't think of other ways! Fang Tian will leave the boat behind and let you catch him and kill him? God! How can there be such a cheap thing down there? There are other things without boats! This is the south, everywhere there are bamboo forests, straw piles, and wooden planks. Why can’t you use your brains?”

Not long after the main force of the army crossed the Pingjiang River, Fang Tian led his troops to abandon Ganzhou and flee south.Only one regiment of the 142nd Division, which was responsible for intercepting missions in the south, had just arrived in Nankang. This regiment had not yet gained a firm foothold, and saw 20,000 routs rushing in together. , Dingnan rushed away. He Jinnian heard that the enemy was retreating, so he mounted his horse and galloped towards Ganzhou. As soon as they entered the city, they met the commander and political commissar of the 143rd Division, and they reported: "Commander, the enemy has run away, and the city is empty..."

He Jinnian waved his horsewhip and roared, "What are you doing here in Ganzhou? Hurry up and chase after him!" "Which way are we chasing?" He Jinnian wiped the sweat from his forehead, panting and said to the combat staff behind him: "All divisions and regiments are not allowed to stay, and quickly pursue the enemy. The 142nd Division is facing Shaoguan, and the 143rd Division is facing Quannan, Longnan, Ding South, the 144th Division turned to Guangchang and Ruijin..." After He Jinnian finished dictating the telegram, his eyes darkened and he collapsed on the horse—heat stroke.

The military personnel immediately became a mess, and the general helped him off his horse and put him on a stretcher. They didn't know what kind of sudden illness the army commander had. The field hospital was left behind for a day or two and couldn't catch up, so they had to be sent to a hospital run by a foreign church. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, Chiang Ching-kuo served as a commissioner of the administrative office in southern Jiangxi. He believed in Christianity, so some foreign priests who could not stay in the Japanese-occupied areas came to southern Jiangxi one after another, which made local Christianity flourish for a while.

The comrades in the military security department were worried about foreigners, fearing that they were British and American spies, so they sent guards to guard the army commander every step of the way. He Jinnian was lying on the hospital bed, constantly receiving reports from the front line: "The weather is hot, coupled with unacceptable water and soil conditions, there are many sick patients, many laggards, and non-combat attrition has set a record..." He Jinnian said: "This is the old Soviet area, let them chase after it at ease! Those who can't keep up with the team will be thrown down along the road, and a containment team will be sent behind. Already frightened and running for their lives, you can capture a whole bunch with a single gun."

According to Commander He's instructions, the troops chased, lost, caught, and picked up all the way... The 143rd Division pursued Xinfeng and Sannan (Longnan, Dingnan, and Quannan) from Ganzhou. The main force of the division marched towards Xinfeng via Nankang; back road. The division commander Zhang Xinghua rode for 20 miles, and suddenly found that the road ahead was in a mess. The enemy's abandoned cars, carts, suitcases, and backpacks congested the road. Document paper. The main force of the division quickly caught up with the enemy's tail, and after only ten minutes of the exchange of fire, a large number of prisoners were brought in.

Zhang Xinghua ordered: "The troops in front should not send the prisoners back. This will delay the pursuit time. Collect the captured prisoners in the same place, let them manage themselves, and keep the organization intact. The company commander will continue to be the company commander. The commander continues to be the battalion commander, and the regiment and division levels are not required. Let those battalion and company commanders be in charge of food and discipline, and wait and see what happens." After dark, Zhang Xinghua climbed to the top of the hill on the right side of the road. He looked up and saw the flames of fighting for dozens of miles. The battle line stretched for dozens of miles. The two sides were intertwined. Where. The artillery regiment couldn't see the target clearly and couldn't fire. Zhang Xinghua ordered half of the people to guard the artillery, and the other half took the captured guns to join the battle.

People from the division headquarters also asked to fight, and Zhang Xinghua waved his hand: "People from the combat department, communication department, and radio station stay here, and one platoon of guards stays, and the rest go to fight!" Staff officers, officers and guards happily rushed onto the road and ran forward behind the artillery regiment. The 427th Regiment, which took a shortcut, fought many battles along the way, and there were also many enemy troops on that road. The enemy is a mob, lacks training, and their foot strength is no match for a Northeast man who has walked thousands of miles.Starting at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, they fought and chased all the way, and the mountain road of more than 100 miles was full of prisoners lying on the ground panting. When it was dark, the vanguard of the regiment approached the Xinfeng Bridge. It was learned from the captives that the enemy had placed a ton of explosives on the bridge, planning to blow up the bridge when the People's Liberation Army caught up.One company of the 69th Army guarded the bridge, one platoon west of the bridge, and two platoons east of the bridge. A company of the People's Liberation Army disguised itself as the guard company of the enemy's 77th Army, led by two prisoners, swaggered towards the west of the bridge. This company is the company Dong Cunrui was in during his lifetime. "Which part?" Qiaoxi's enemy asked. "The guard company of the 77th Army was ordered to take over the mission of guarding the bridge. Your mission is completed, retreat quickly, the communist army is catching up, did you hear the gunfire?" "I'm not deaf, I've heard it a long time ago." "Then why don't you leave quickly?" The platoon leader said: "Call first and ask the company commander for instructions, and I will change with you immediately." While the two sides were talking, the phone line was quietly cut, and the phone was shaken for a long time and couldn't get through. The company commander of the People's Liberation Army said impatiently: "What broken phone? Don't shake it, get out!" The platoon leader ordered the withdrawal without question. The People's Liberation Army walked towards the east of the bridge, passed through the middle of the bridge and cut off the wire that detonated the explosives. The enemy in the east of the bridge was stationed in a gun tower. The company commander said: "Without an order from the superior, I dare not make my own decisions." The two sides argued on the first floor of the blockhouse. The company commander of the People's Liberation Army said: "You have not received an order from your superiors to retreat, but I have received an order from your superiors to change defenses. You can do nothing if you don't change. Two companies are more confident in guarding the bridge. Even if you help, I still have to thank you." How about this, you guard the first and second floors, and we guard the third and fourth floors." The enemy company commander was still hesitating, so the PLA company commander said loudly: "All the guard companies of the 77th Army go up to the third or fourth floor!" The People's Liberation Army swarmed up to the third and fourth floors, drove all the enemies above to the first and second floors, and then dropped a grenade on the second floor, saying: "You will toast or not, let's see if you change it!" Seeing this posture, the enemy hurriedly said: "Company commander, let's go! They belong to the headquarters of the 77th Army. We can't afford to mess with them. Why don't we hide?" "You leave the machine guns and bullets for us!" The company commander said angrily: "You are unreasonable, forget it, let's go! Brothers, leave the machine guns and bullets behind, and let's leave this place of right and wrong!" After outwitting Xinfeng Bridge, the remnants of the 69th Army flocked to the west of the bridge and were shot back by machine guns. "Brothers of the 77th Army, stop fighting, we belong to the 69th Army, we have to cross the bridge..." Before the words fell, the machine gun rang again. The group of enemy soldiers turned around and ran back in fright, and quickly disappeared into the night. After half an hour, another group of enemy troops came, and the machine guns on the gun tower roared again. "We are the guard company of the 77th Army. We have to cross the bridge. Don't shoot." The soldiers of the People's Liberation Army laughed secretly: "The enemy is here!" There was another burst of machine guns, and the opponent fell down. "You have taken the wrong medicine! Why are you beating?" "Do you want to escape? No one is allowed to cross the bridge without the command of the commander!" "We are escorting the commander, and the commander is here." "We will only believe it if we ask the army commander to come in person." A tall officer came out of the darkness and said with a high air: "I am the commander, playing the piano!" The company commander of the People's Liberation Army called the prisoner, and the prisoner said, "It is indeed Commander Chen." The company commander originally wanted to capture Commander Chen alive, but after careful consideration, he thought it was inappropriate. This would inevitably expose himself prematurely and invite crazy revenge from the enemy. If the bridge cannot be defended, the enemy will not only flee but also blow up the bridge, hindering the pursuit of the People's Liberation Army. After Commander Chen and his guards crossed the bridge, the PLA machine guns roared again.I don't know how many enemies died on the west side of the bridge for no apparent reason that night. At dawn, the pursuing troops passed the Xinfeng Bridge smoothly. Commander Zhang Xinghua rode his horse to the bridge, saw piles of enemy corpses, and praised: "You guys fought well and made great contributions to the night battle against Xinfeng. You are worthy of being Dong Cunrui's company!" After Xinfeng was liberated, the 143rd Division continued to pursue the enemies fleeing south. There was nothing to fight, but to compete with their feet to see who could run faster. In this marathon competition, I don't know how many people were exhausted. The people around Zhang Xinghua gradually threw themselves into the battle of chasing and annihilating the remnants of the enemy. In the end, there was only one radio station and one guard squad left. They encountered a large number of enemies on the way to Longnan. "Master, there are many enemies coming out of the mountain on the right side 500 meters ahead." The soldier in charge of the reconnaissance mission reported, "They are shooting in our direction." Zhang Xinghua got off his horse and said to Staff Officer Li: "The enemy is blocking the way. If we don't deal with them, we will not be able to get through. Now the enemy is outnumbered and we can only outsmart. We will first set up a suspicious army, and then carry out political disintegration. Send four soldiers to each Take a red flag and plant it on the four nearby hills, so that the enemy thinks that they are surrounded by me, and you take a messenger to shout, negotiate with them, and strive for a political settlement." Staff Li acted according to plan. When red flags suddenly appeared on the four small hills, the enemy was terrified and fired randomly, causing many bullet holes in the red flags. After Zhang Xinghua took the radio crew and a machine gun up a hill, he fired hundreds of machine gun bullets at the enemy. At this time, Staff Officer Li shouted: "Stop shooting, listen to me. Brother Jiang Jun, you are surrounded on all sides. Don't sacrifice your life in vain. Send representatives to negotiate!" The gunshots fell silent immediately. "Brother Communist Army, come and talk first!" Staff Officer Li said: "Okay! I'll go over and talk. I don't carry a gun. Don't worry!" Staff Officer Li got out of the mountain forest and went down to the road. The enemy officer and the deputy commander then flashed out from the woods on both sides of the road. The three started negotiating on the road. "Our army's policy is to hand in your guns and not kill, give preferential treatment to prisoners, and ensure that your officers' private property will not be lost. Your soldiers who are willing to stay can join the PLA, and those who are willing to leave can be paid travel expenses." Staff Officer Li said, "You If you are willing to surrender, gather at Xinfeng." The head of the enemy regiment looked bitter, and said: "We don't want to fight for a long time! We can't beat you by fighting, but we can't escape you by running! Since we can't escape, we'd better surrender." Staff Officer Li wrote a note and handed it to the regiment leader, saying: "Assemble your team immediately and drive to Xinfeng, and hand the note to the Military Control Commission, and they will arrange board and lodging." More than 300 enemies were easily resolved in this way. From Xinfeng to Longnan, the chase continued for four days and four nights, both sides were exhausted. The battles were all carried out on the road, and the road was full of people lying there, some dead, some snoring like thunder, and it was very common for the living to sleep soundly on the pillow of the dead. Zhang Xinghua's horse can travel 60 miles in an hour. It is a rare good horse, and it can't bear it after a few days.Once, Zhang Xinghua dozed off on a horse, and the horse suddenly fell down.He got up from the ground and saw the horse foaming at the mouth and couldn't stand up anymore. Not far from Longnan, the enemy set up a line of defense, and the attack of the troops was blocked.Zhang Xinghua lay down on a rock to observe the enemy's situation with binoculars, counted the enemy's firepower, and fell asleep after counting.Suddenly there was a gunshot, and Zhang Xinghua woke up with a start, and found that the hat had been blown away by the enemy. At midnight on August 23, the main force of the 143rd Division arrived at the foot of Longnan City. The enemy's machine guns spewed flames on the walls, and the sound of gunfire echoed through the mountains. Zhang Xinghua was thinking about how to destroy the firepower of the enemy's machine gun, but the machine gun became dumb for no reason.Soldiers of the People's Liberation Army quietly approached the enemy's machine gun position, and found that the gunman was sleeping with the machine gun pressed down. When I entered the city, I saw that the streets were full of people lying down, and the snoring came one after another, like waves crashing on the shore. "Brothers Jiang Jun, you are all liberated, go into the house and sleep well!" "Let's just let us sleep where we are. You can take machine guns and rifles as you please. The officer didn't wake up after being whipped just now." The Battle of Southwest Jiangxi came to an end on August 29. The 48th Army of the Four Fields achieved the result of annihilating more than 8,850 enemies at a slight cost of more than 200 casualties and liberated 14 counties. So far, the entire territory of Jiangxi has been liberated, and the door from Jiangxi to Guangdong has been completely opened. In the Battle of Qingshuping, the 7th Army, the ace of the Guangxi faction, failed to capture the division of Siye, and Bai Chongxi was very frustrated. He deeply felt that the opponent's strength far surpassed himself not only in quantity but also in quality. Bai Chongxi, like all bourgeois military strategists, regards material factors as an overwhelming force. He kept in frequent contact with the commander of the US 7th Fleet, Bai Jier, through a secret radio station. At this time, Baijier's flagship was anchoring in Hong Kong.Bai Chongxi was eager to meet this "foreign savior". After several twists and turns, the two sides agreed to meet in Guangzhou in mid-August. As soon as the two sides met in Guangzhou, Baijier reiterated his promise: "As long as General Bai's troops arrive in Guangzhou, the US 7th Fleet will do its best to ensure supplies." Bai Chongxi received this promise, and immediately discussed with Li Zongren the countermeasures: how to transfer the Gui army to Guangzhou. Because of Jiang's interference, the Gui family of the Minister of Defense could not control the power. They came up with a devious strategy to let the Cantonese generals come out to put pressure on Jiang. Cantonese generals such as Yu Hanmou and Xue Yue began to run around to transfer the Guangxi army into Guangdong, but were finally blocked by the Ministry of National Defense. Yu Hanmou saw that there was no hope for the Bai tribe to enter Guangdong, so he refused to take up the post of military and political officer in South China. Bai Chongxi was helpless in Guangzhou, and Bai Jier could do nothing. In order to enter Guangdong to accept this batch of arms from the United States, the main force of the Guangxi faction has been stranded on the front line of Hengyang for more than two months.Soon, Hengyang became the Waterloo of "Little Zhuge". On September 9, at the Siye headquarters in Hankou, the four leaders of the former committee, Lin Biao, Deng Zihui, Xiao Ke, and Zhao Erlu, were holding a meeting to study Mao Zedong's latest instructions. Xiao Ke read the telegram from the Military Commission with a strong Hunan accent: After discussing Mao Zedong's telegram, the Front Committee of the Four Fields decided to end the rest and switch to autumn operations. On September 10, Lin, Deng, Xiao, and Zhao confirmed the operational deployment for marching into Central South: The 12th Corps, the 13th Corps, the 15th Corps and the 4th Corps of the Second Field went south in three routes. On the east road were the 15th Corps and the 4th Corps of Erye, under the unified command of Chen Geng, marching southward from Ganzhou via Nanxiong and Shixing to capture Guangzhou. Then the 15th Corps stayed in Guangdong, and the 4th Corps went west to southern Guangxi, becoming the South Route Army that encircled Bai Chongxi's tribe. The West Road is the 13th Corps, commanded by Cheng Zihua, from Changde via Yuanling and Zhijiang, straight to Liuzhou, cutting off the road for the Baibu to flee westward to Guizhou. The middle road is the 12th Corps, under the command of Xiao Jinguang. After the left and right wings have entered the appropriate position, they will advance to the main force of the Baibu, which is assembled on the front line of Hengyang and Shaoyang, and strive to wipe out part of the enemy, and then follow the enemy into Guangxi. Finally, together with Chen Geng and Cheng Zihua's two armies, they wiped out the Bai tribe in Guangxi. The purpose of this strategic deployment was to encircle and wipe out Bai Chongxi's troops in Guangxi. At that time, no one expected that there would be a battle of Hengbao in southern Hunan. On September 13, the Zihua Corps set off from Changde, Taoyuan and other places in the west, and went straight to Zhijiang, the gateway of Hunan, Guangxi, and Guizhou provinces. They occupied Yuanling on the 18th, Xupu on the 19th, and Luxi and Chenxi on the 21st. The left wing of the "Hunan-Guangdong Joint Defense Line" carefully deployed by Bai Chongxi was seriously threatened. In order to ensure the smooth flow of the Zhijiang River and the Xiangxi Highway, he transferred the 103rd Army from the area west of Yongfeng to the Huaihua area north of the Zhijiang River. At this time, Bai Chongxi's main force, the three Guangxi armies, were still on the Guangdong-Han railway line. Among them, the 7th army was located in Hengyang, the 48th army was located from Yongxing to Leiyang, and the 46th army went deep into Lechang, Guangdong. He still has not given up his attempt to enter Guangdong. Just when there was a crisis on the left-wing front of the Baibu, Chiang Kai-shek flew to Guangzhou suddenly and invited Bai Chongxi to Guangzhou for business negotiations. On September 22, Bai Chongxi flew from Hengyang to Guangzhou, and then went to Huangpu to meet Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang Kai-shek called Bai Chongxi into a secret room and had a long talk behind closed doors. This long talk changed the fate of Bai Chongxi's life.Later facts proved that "Little Zhuge" still failed to count Lao Jiang, and he was deceived by Lao Jiang's "crocodile tears". The two first exchanged their views on the current situation. Chiang Kai-shek was in tears, and his old voice immediately made Bai Chongxi restless.Later, Lao Jiang said "confidentially" in an extremely emotional tone: "Looking back at the time when the Northern Expedition started, you became my chief of staff. The two of us were sincerely united and cooperated seamlessly, so we were able to achieve national unity. After that, the two of us We parted ways, leading to fighting in the same room. And the "July 7 Marco Polo Bridge Incident", the two of us worked together and fought side by side, and finally won the victory of the War of Resistance. With these historical lessons, I personally believe that no matter how difficult the situation will be in the future, as long as we are of one heart and one mind , complete cooperation, there is still something to be done.” Bai Chongxi was deeply moved by Chiang Kai-shek's "heartfelt words", and "Little Zhuge" was determined to abandon the previous suspicions and cooperate with Chiang Kai-shek for the third time to turn the tide. Subsequently, Chiang Kai-shek proposed a strategy of defending the southwest: defend northern Sichuan with the southern part of Hu Zong in Shaanxi; The Zhang Gan Corps, Xu Qiming Corps, and Lu Daoyuan Corps took care of southern Hunan and northern Guangdong; the Liu Anqi Corps on Hainan Island transferred two armies to Guangzhou for garrison. Chiang Kai-shek's above-mentioned plan made Bai Chongxi's Central China troops take care of the four provinces of southern Hunan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and Guangdong at the same time.Bai Chongxi has been delirious by Chiang Kai-shek's "magic", and he actually agreed to Chiang Kai-shek's plan.In his opinion, Lao Jiang's ambition to defend the entire Southwest is much greater than his courage to defend Guangdong and Guangxi, but he did not realize the Achilles' heel of too wide a defensive area and scattered troops. When Bai Chongxi walked out of the Whampoa secret room, he was completely different from when he entered. He no longer looked at the problem from the standpoint of the Guangxi faction (or the standpoint of Lao Jiang's opposition). He believes that only by supporting Chiang can the forces of the various factions of the Kuomintang be integrated and united to the outside world. After he returned to Hengyang, he found that the army on the Sinye Middle Road was also going south separately, so he ordered the two Guangxi armies distributed on the Guangdong border to go north along the Yuehan Road and gather at the line from Hengyang to Baoqing (Shaoyang). After retreating for nearly a thousand miles, "Little Zhuge" believed that the Guangxi army was like a spring compressed to the extreme, and it was about to rebound strongly. On the contrary, he believed that the four-field army's ten-thousand-li southward expedition was at the end of its strength. Although Bai Chongxi was eager to try, he was not so confused that he wanted to fight Lin Biao. He wanted to find the opponent's weakness, seize the road that the lone army advanced aggressively, and then rush down the killer, attack and wipe out the road, and force the other roads to stop chasing. Formed a situation of confrontation on the front line of Hengbao, in order to "recover the decline, inspire people, and divert international audio-visual" to win US aid. Lin Biao was taken aback when the news that the main force of the Guangxi faction went north to Hengbao reached Wuhan. "Little Zhuge" clearly put on a decisive battle posture, but he was not ready for a decisive battle at all.The deployment of the three-way army going south this time was formulated in accordance with the spirit of Mao Zedong's telegram on September 9.The telegram pointed out: "We only sent troops to monitor Bai Chongxi's troops in the Hengyang area, and did not make any deployments or actions to attack and annihilate him. In this way, Bai Chongxi's troops must quickly retreat to Guilin, and this is our purpose. Judging Bai Chongxi The Ministry will never fight us in Hunan." Lin Biao and the other heads of the four fields agreed in advance that Bai Chongxi would not fight in Hunan. And now Bai Chongxi actually put on the stance of a decisive battle! "Do not fight uncertain battles" is Lin Biao's characteristic. The "slow" in the "four fast and one slow" tactics invented by him means "slowly start the attack on the enemy who has completed defensive preparations, and attack after fully preparing." ".Since he hadn't made preparations for a decisive battle with the enemy at Hengbao, he certainly wouldn't go into battle easily. Since Lin Biao knew that his opponent was going to fight decisively, he was unambiguous, and quickly made the deployment of the decisive battle on the front line of Hengbao. At midnight on October 4, 1949, Lin Biao confided to Xiao Kehe his well-thought-out campaign plan: "Order the Cheng Zihua Corps of the West Route Army, which has captured Zhijiang, to detour eastward to the Hengbao enemy's left side; Detour from the west to the enemy's back, and cut off the enemy's escape route to the south. The army in the middle of the front should not advance southward for the time being, and gather in place. After the other armies have detoured to the designated position, surround the enemy of Hengbao on all sides, and gather and annihilate them in one fell swoop." According to the above instructions, Yesi ordered the Xiao Jinguang Corps of the Central Route Army: "Stop waiting for orders now, and strictly prepare for battle, so as to wait for the concentration of our troops." At 10:30 a.m. the next day, the Ye Si telegraphed the Xilu Zihua Corps and the Zhonglu Xiao Jinguang Corps: At 11 o'clock, they ordered: "The 38th and 39th armies march towards Baoqing and Qiyang..." At 18:00, the field commander sent a telegram to each department: "If the enemy aggressively attacks us, all troops can adopt the method of luring the enemy to go deep, use one to fight the enemy, and move the main force back." After the above deployment was issued, Lin, Deng, Tan (Tan Zheng), Xiao, and Zhao called the Central Military Commission: Mao Zedong agreed with Chief Shino's judgment and operational deployment, and replied by telegram: Just when the units of the Xiao Jinguang Corps on the middle road were ordered by the field commander to stop their southward advance, an unexpected thing happened. This accidental event changed the combat deployment of the four fields, and also made the Battle of Hengbao full of drama. The 135th Division of the 45th Army is in a rush march, and has not set up a radio antenna to receive orders from superiors for 24 hours. When the other ministries were ordered to stop the southward advance and shrink the front, the division advanced alone and drove straight in, advancing 160 miles southward in a day and night. The 135th Division, under the leadership of division commander Ding Sheng and political commissar Wei Zuzhen, bypassed Yongfeng City in the early morning of October 3, and penetrated deeply from the junction of the enemy defense area. On the night of the 4th, the 403rd regiment of the avant-garde division occupied the Shuidong River. The scouts used the wired telephone at the transfer station of the Shuidong River transportation hub to pretend to be the head of the transfer station. and military uniform.Afterwards, the whole division quickly crossed the Hengbao Highway between Shuidongjiang and Songjiatang without anyone noticing. At noon on the 5th, the division had reached the back of the enemy's first-line positions, reached Shaping and Lingguan Hall, and was in the core area of Hengbao's defense line. At 14:00 on October 5, Ding Sheng and Wei Zuzhen telegraphed their southward advance and the division's current location to the military headquarters.Chen Bojun, commander of the 45th Army, and Qiu Huizuo, political commissar, were taken aback. If they hadn't had a detailed report on the southward advance, they could hardly have believed that the division was actually located in the heart of the enemy!Chen Bojun and Qiu Huizuo didn't know whether it was a blessing or a curse that the division was alone behind the enemy and surrounded by heavy troops, so they immediately reported the situation to the Corps Headquarters and the Field Division at the same time. The confidential officer sent this urgent telegram to the war room of the wild division, like a stone stirring up a thousand waves. While the staff members were urgently working on the map, they talked a lot.Xiao Ke ordered Lin Biao to come immediately. When Lin Biao walked into the war room, the noisy staff immediately fell silent, and all their eyes were directed at his pale face. Xiao Ke pointed to the map and said: "Mr. Lin, the 45th Army just received an urgent call. The 135th Division did not receive an order to stop advancing. After 24 hours of continuous forced marching, they crossed the Hengbao Highway and reached the Shaping and Lingguandian areas." .” Lin Biao fixed his eyes on the two place names Shaping and Lingguandian on the map. These two place names had just been covered with a small oval red circle by the staff, and there were blue strange circles everywhere outside the red circle. "The 135th Division has been dumped," a staff officer murmured in a low voice, "it's too dangerous." "No!" Lin Biao pointed to the blue strange circles on the map and said, "These blue circles do not reflect the actual situation. In fact, the enemy's heavy troops are located to the north of the 135th Division, while their south is relatively empty." Xiao Ke said thoughtfully: "Our army was trained and grown up in the harsh environment of the battlefield behind the enemy. Encirclement' and other large-scale "sweeps". Our commanders and fighters all have combat experience of "strike the enemy and preserve themselves". Although the 135th Division is in a disadvantageous situation, it may not be a good thing for the overall situation." Lin Biao waved his staff to withdraw, and sat down alone on a wicker chair in front of the map, resting his chin on one hand, lost in thought. At the same time, Bai Chongxi held an emergency military meeting at the Hengyang headquarters. The huge military map on the wall of the war room has not yet circled the names of Shaping and Lingguandian in red.Obviously, they don't know yet that a division of the "communist army" has penetrated into the core of the blue defense zone. After listening to the report of the enemy's situation by Chief of Staff Xu Zuyi, Bai Chongxi said to the generals present: "The progress of the Communist Army in the north is slow; I have two plans for everyone to consider: one is to defend, and the other is to withdraw. To defend, you can’t defend to death, you can only use offense as defense, look for the weaknesses of the communist army, and defeat them individually. The communist army occupies a large overall advantage, but their troops were divided into different routes, which provided the possibility for me to find an opportunity to attack and annihilate all the way. If our army uses the railway and the Hengbao Highway to quickly mobilize troops, it is possible to form a local advantage in a certain route. Disrupt its overall plan and ease the threat to our Hengbao defense line." When Bai Chongxi talked about this, he found that most of the generals present were frowning, as if they were skeptical about the strategy of using offense as defense. In fact, he himself did not have much confidence. He has been looking for the opponent's weaknesses, but Lin Biao has acted cautiously and has not yet revealed obvious flaws.Although divided into three paths, each path has a strong strength, and they are all bones that he can't chew. "As for the withdrawal, there are also two plans: one is to retreat along the Guangdong-Han line to Shaoguan; the other is to retreat along the Hunan-Guizhou line to the line from Huangsha River to Longhuguan." Most of the participating generals advocated withdrawing to Guangxi to guard the foundation of their fortune. Bai Chongxi sighed and said: "Hengyang is a three-fork junction where two railways meet. It is the gateway of Guangdong and Guangxi provinces. Once Hengyang is lost, both Guangdong and Guangxi will be threatened. This is why our army has been stranded here for three months. The reason for the withdrawal. We must withdraw sooner or later. We can’t be eaten by others, but it is worth considering when to withdraw. If we don’t let the enemy suffer a certain blow and continue to withdraw, we have no choice but to go to Nanyang! I want to wait a little longer Wait, it’s not too late to withdraw if there is no opportunity to find a fighter. You must be prepared for both combat and withdrawal, and you must be able to act with a single order.” It was not until dusk that Bai Chongxi's last military meeting in Hengyang came to an end, and the generals left the minister's office worried. At dusk, Lin Biao stood up from his wicker chair and began to dictate his latest combat orders. This order was issued to the 135th Division, the 45th Army, and the 12th Corps at the same time.He decided to directly command Ding Sheng's division: Lin Biao decided to cut off the Baibu's retreat first, so he ordered the 135th Division to rest for half a day, and went to Hongqiao and Daying City to destroy the Hunan-Guangxi Railway. The 46th Army and the 18th Army on Lingdong Road advanced towards the Guangdong-Han Railway. Once the two railways south of Hengyang were cut off, Bai Chongxi would have to fight a decisive battle in the Hengbao area.Whether or not Bai Chongxi, the most cunning warlord, can be caught depends on whether the 135th Division can cut off his retreat. On the night of October 5, Ling Yunshang, the deputy commander of the 7th Army of the Guangxi Faction, was ordered to set up a command post on the Shuidong River. When he arrived at the Shuidong River from Shaoyang (Baoqing), someone reported to him: "A messenger from the 176th Division witnessed I saw a Communist army of nearly 10,000 people marching towards the Lingguan Hall from the small road south of the Shuidong River." Ling Yun asked urgently: "When did this happen?" "This morning." "Have you reported it to the higher authorities?" Ling Yunshang asked. "No one believes what he said, let alone 10,000 people, even if 10,000 sparrows have passed, it is impossible for him to be the only one to see it. Could it be that everyone else is blind?" Ling Yunshang immediately called Li Benyi, the commander of the army: "Military seat, some people said that they saw with their own eyes nearly 10,000 communist troops crossing the road and taking a small road to the direction of Lingguan Hall. Regardless of whether this matter is wrong or not, I think Someone should be sent to check." Li Benyi said in surprise: "If this happened, the problem would be serious. I'll send someone to investigate right away." The reconnaissance team sent by the 7th Army met a teacher at Songjiatang Primary School. The teacher did not dare to lie in the face of the evil spirits, and said tremblingly: "There are indeed a large group of troops wearing five-pointed star military caps crossing the road and heading south. The number of people is unclear, but it is estimated that there are thousands of people." As soon as Li Ben got the confirmation, it was already late at night, so he quickly ordered the 176th Division to pursue the southward route of the "communist army" and called the Hengyang headquarters to report. After listening to the emergency military report, Bai Chongxi immediately walked into the war room and violently pulled back the dark red curtain in front of the military map.His ferocious eyes were fixed on Shaping and the area around Lingguan Hall.He thought of one person, that was Zhang Lingfu, commander of the 74th Division of Jiang Jun's trump card reorganization. In May 1947, Chiang Kai-shek mobilized heavy troops to find the main force of the People's Liberation Army in Shandong for a decisive battle.Zhang Lingfu led the 74th Division alone to enter the hinterland of the Yimeng base of the Shandong People's Liberation Army. He wanted to use the tactics of "blossom in the center and attack from all sides" to lure the main force of the People's Liberation Army to encircle his ace division, and then other Jiang troops from all walks of life would carry out counter encirclement and annihilate Shandong in one fell swoop. The main force of the People's Liberation Army.Zhang Lingfu's plan ultimately fell through because he ignored two factors: one was overestimating his own strength; the other was underestimating the opponent's strength. His trump card division couldn't defend a Meng Lianggu, and was eaten by the People's Liberation Army before the Jiang army from all walks of life "attacked from all sides".Zhang Lingfu not only died because of his adventurous plan, but also reversed the entire battle situation in Shandong.Since then, it is no longer Jiang's army looking for a decisive battle with the People's Liberation Army, but the People's Liberation Army has turned into a counterattack. The reason why Bai Chongxi remembered this battle was because the current situation was quite similar. In his imagination, the communist army failed to find him for several decisive battles, so there was an adventurer like Zhang Lingfu who led a division into the hinterland of his defense zone. Attack on all sides." "Little Zhuge" rolled his eyes for a while, and he felt that the blood in his whole body was about to boil.He grabbed a red and blue pencil and poked it hard at the map. He wanted to eat "Zhang Lingfu" of the communist army in one bite and reverse the situation in southern Hunan! Bai Chongxi's body trembled involuntarily at the thought of this, and he gave the order to encircle and wipe out the 135th Division of Siye in a decisive voice. At this time, it was the early morning of October 6. After the staff officer left in a hurry with the recorded telegram, Bai Chongxi opened the window, and a gust of cool wind came blowing in his face.He calmly considered the overall situation and realized that the impulse just now was a little naive. Even if Shino's division is eaten, there will never be a miracle that reverses the entire battle situation.Because the division in Siye is an ordinary army with little known name, who knows the name of the division commander? But Zhang Lingfu's division is different. It is the number one "Yulin Army" in Tianzi, so its destruction can deter other troops, making them turn around and flee after the battle of Menglianggu. This is the reason for the reversal of the battle in Shandong. Lin Biao had dozens of divisions in his hands, and together they formed an extremely powerful "trump card"-Siye! Bai Chongxi walked to the map and frowned again, thinking again. At dawn on October 6, the 176th Division of the Guangxi Clan discovered the position of the PLA in the Sunjiawan area and immediately launched an attack. The 405th Regiment of the 135th Division of Shino was stationed in the position, and the regiment repelled 4 enemy attacks in a row. Master Ding Sheng is preparing to lead the main force to advance to Hongqiao and Daying City to carry out the task of destroying the Hunan-Guangxi Railway assigned by the Yesi.Sunjiawan's position was tight, which made him feel that the cruelest battle since going south was coming. He then reported the emergency he was facing to Noji. Noji Callback Instructions: The misty autumn rain made the sight blurred, and the mountains and forests in that area were very dense, and the two sides soon started fighting in a dog-tooth manner. Bai Chongxi mobilized 2 divisions each of the 7th Army and the 48th Army, the main force of the Guangxi Clique, in an attempt to encircle and wipe out the 135th Division of Siye. The telegram was deciphered by Siye on the morning of October 6. The Front Committee of the Four Fields called Xiao Jinguang, the 12th Corps of the Central Road, and others: Lin Biao leapfrogged again and directly commanded the various armies and leading divisions. He ordered the 135th Division to use one part to deal with the enemy in front of him and hold the enemy back. The retreat route to the west; order the 133rd and 134th Divisions to attack the 7th Army in the area of Shuidongjiang and Yanpi Bridge; order the 122nd and 123rd Divisions of the 41st Army to attack the enemy's 71st Army; the rest of the Central Route Army Advance to the southwest of Hengbao Highway; the 38th Army and 39th Army of the West Route Army advance to Qiyang. Hundreds of thousands of troops from the four fields rushed to the main force of the Guangxi faction on the front line of Hengbao from the east, west, and north. This day was the most stressful day in Bai Chongxi's life. He paced back and forth in the war room like a trapped animal. The staff officers marked the latest situation on the battlefield on the map based on telephone calls and telegrams.Chief of Staff Xu Zuyi was dazed by the snowflakes of telegrams and phone calls one after another. With a moment of leisure, he lost no time in persuading Bai Chongxi to order a full retreat. "The communist army attacking from the north of Guangdong has already detoured to the right side of our army. Once we are cut off by them, we can only follow in the footsteps of Du Yuming. Commander to withdraw quickly! It will be over if it is too late!" Bai Chongxi said impatiently: "The withdrawal must be withdrawn, but the division of the Communist Army must be eaten first!"
