Chapter 79 Five Conditions for the Realization of Domestic Peace and Unity in Anti-Japanese War[1]

(December 21, 1936) Comrade Hannian: Immediately submit the following request to Mr. Chen Lifu[2] and others for their consent. The biggest crisis at present is that Japan has formed an alliance with Nanjing and other pro-Japanese factions around the world, and under the banner of Chiang Kai-shek, it has caused civil strife and enslaved China. The leftists in Nanjing and other places should act quickly to save the crisis. The Communist Party is willing to help the leftists and firmly advocates the establishment of domestic peace on the basis of the following conditions, and unanimously deal with Japan and pro-Japanese factions.

(A) Absorb several leaders of the anti-Japanese movement to join the Nanjing government and reject the pro-Japanese faction. (B) Stop military operations and recognize the status of Xi'an. (c) Stop the policy of "suppressing communism" and join forces with the Red Army to resist Japan. (D) Protect democratic rights and establish cooperative relations with countries that sympathize with China's anti-Japanese movement. (e) When the above conditions are sufficiently guaranteed, advise Xi'an to restore Mr. Chiang Kai-shek's freedom and assist him to unite the whole country against Japan. What is the result, please reply by telegram.
