Chapter 56 Wu Yuzhang[1] Birthday Congratulations

(January 15, 1940) Today everyone gathered together to celebrate Mr. Wu's birthday.Recalling my feelings when I celebrated Mr. Xu's birthday three years ago, I said at that time that we celebrated his birthday for a reason. [2] I remember when I was young, I didn’t like the old people very much, because they would bully the young people. Who is not wrong with the young people? But you can’t be wrong, they are very cruel to you.Children and young people have no say in everything.Chinese young people have suffered too much from feudal families and feudal society. But now the world has changed. Young people like old people, just like our old Wu, Lin, Xu, Dong, and Xie[3], they are all very popular among young people. Why this change? Because these old comrades not only do not bully the young people, but also are very enthusiastic to help the young people. Their behavior is a model for the young people, so the young people love them very much. There are also many old people outside the party who are respected by young people. For example, Ma Xiangbo[4] is one. When he celebrated his birthday, our Communist Party sent a congratulatory message because he advocated anti-Japanese and democratic politics.People always have to grow old, so why are old people so valuable? If being old is precious, then there are too many precious people. So we must have a standard. That is to say, what is valuable is that he always does good things all his life, never does bad things, does things that are beneficial to mankind, and never does things that harm others. If you do something good at the beginning and then do something bad later, it is called lack of persistence. It is not difficult for one person to do good deeds, but what is difficult is to do good deeds all one's life, refrain from doing bad deeds, consistently benefit the broad masses, consistently benefit the youth, consistently benefit the revolution, and work hard for decades. The hardest and the hardest!

Our old comrade Wu Yuzhang is such a person who has been like a day for decades. He is 60 years old this year. He has worked in the revolution for 40 years from the Tongmenghui to the present day. He has been displaced during the period, prepared for hardships, and has remained the same. This is not easy. There are not many people who have remained from the Tongmenghui until today, and there are even fewer people who have always fought for the revolution and have not changed their revolutionary integrity no matter what.To do this, not only need to have a firm and correct political direction, but also need the spirit of hard work, otherwise you will not be able to resist all kinds of evil forces, such as threats of death, threats of starvation, threats of revolutionary failure, etc. Our Wu Yuzhang Comrades have come through such countless storms. Therefore, we must learn from his advantages in all aspects, but we must especially learn from his persistence in the revolution. This is the most commendable thing, this is the glory of our party, this is the glory of the Chinese revolution. We all celebrate his 60th birthday with joy today, and I think the main meaning is here.
