Chapter 28 Speech at the Yan'an Anti-Aggression Conference

(February 11, 1938) Comrades: The anti-aggression conference held today, in its significance, is not only for Yan'an, but also for the whole country. The same conferences are held in various parts of the country in the past few days, all for one purpose, which is to oppose the war of aggression. This conference is not only for China, but also for the whole world. Tomorrow, London will hold a worldwide anti-aggression conference. Representatives from dozens of countries will participate, marking the beginning of an unprecedentedly great world struggle. At present, the aggressors of the world form an aggressive front to undermine world peace, while the anti-aggressors unite the majority of the people of the world to defend world peace and oppose aggressive wars. These two opposing fronts are struggling all over the world. There has never been such a great world movement in history in the past, and there has never been a big movement mobilizing regions of the world like today. Now is the time for the majority of good people in the world to settle accounts with a few bad people in the world.

Because China is at the juncture of life and death today, all Chinese people have an unprecedented great unity, which is also unprecedented in the history of China in the past. Our great national unity now has a foundation and is expanding toward the future.Although we have temporarily lost some battles and lost some land, such a great unity is incomparable in strength. Coupled with the assistance of the world and the Japanese people, we will definitely be able to defeat the Japanese invaders. There are now three united fronts against aggression: the united front of China, the united front of the world, and the united front of Japan. In Japan, the broad masses of the people disapprove of their government’s invasion of China and are organizing a united front against aggression. The goal of these three united fronts is the same, which is to oppose the Japanese imperialist war of aggression. Some people say that China's anti-aggression campaign in the past few decades has failed, and today's anti-aggression campaign will also fail.this is not right. The situation today is different from that of the past, mainly because today not only is there a national anti-aggression united front, but this united front coincides with the unprecedented worldwide anti-aggression united front; And it happens to coincide with the unprecedented internal contradictions in Japan, that is, to coincide with the united front of the Japanese people. These historical features were not there before, and now they all happen to be there. That is why we say that China's defeat is temporary and that China's War of Resistance will surely win final victory. This is the basis for this. These three united fronts, like the rising sun, are heading towards a direction of increasing consolidation and expansion. The final victory must belong to us, and pessimism is groundless.

Therefore, today's meeting in Yan'an City has its national and worldwide significance. Those who do not want to be subjugated in China, regardless of party affiliation, belief, gender, age, or age, are all united towards the same goal. All peace-loving and war-hating people in the world are also united towards the same goal. The broad masses of people in Japan are also united towards the same goal. This goal is anti-aggression, which is the general direction of world politics today.Such a great unity of the whole Chinese people, the people of the whole world and the people of Japan is so great. This great power will undoubtedly gradually weaken the strength of the aggressor and finally bring it down. Therefore, we firmly say: as long as we work hard, China will definitely be able to defeat the aggressors, and the establishment of a new China is inevitable.
