Chapter 16 "Rural Survey" Preface I [1]

(October 6, 1937) From the period of the Northern Expedition in 1927 to the time I left the Central Soviet Area in 1934, the materials I personally collected from the countryside are now only the following: (1) Xunwu Investigation; (2) Xingguo (3) Investigation of Dongtang and other places; (4) Investigation of Mukou Village; (5) Land distribution in southwestern Jiangxi; (9) The Land Law of the Two Early Stages; (10) Survey of Changgang Township; (11) Survey of Caixi Township. The last two parts were published in the "Struggle" newspaper[2] in the Central Soviet Area, and the rest of the original manuscripts have been preserved. After the Long March, they have not been lost.Everything else is lost. The most regrettable thing is that the investigation in Changsha, Xiangtan, Xiangxiang, Hengshan, and Liling counties in Hunan in the spring of 1927 was lost due to Xu Kexiang's rebellion[3]; Investigations in Gang and Yongxin counties[4] revealed losses due to the fall of Jinggangshan. What has been preserved here are all materials from the Central Soviet Area. The first nine parts belong to the early agrarian revolution, and the last two parts belong to the in-depth agrarian revolution.Although not complete, it can be seen.In order to avoid further loss, several copies are printed out for reference by comrades. This is a historical material, some of which are opinions of the time and have since changed.

According to People's Publishing House in 1982 "Mao Zedong's Rural Investigation Collected Works" was printed in thousands of prints. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ note [1] This is a preface written by Mao Zedong in Yan'an for the book "Rural Survey" that was going to be printed at that time. "Rural Survey" was not printed at that time, and it was not published in Yan'an until 1941. Mao Zedong wrote another preface. [2] "Struggle" is the official newspaper of the Central Bureau of the Soviet Area of the Communist Party of China.Mao Zedong's "Investigation of Changgang Township" and "Investigation of Caixi Township" were published in the 42nd to 44th issues of "Struggle" in January 1934 and the 40th issue of February 1934 respectively. Five, forty-six, and forty-eight issues were published consecutively.

[3] Xu Kexiang rebelled, commonly known as the "Ma Ri Incident".After Chiang Kai-shek launched the April 12 counter-revolutionary coup in Shanghai in 1927, on May 21 (Ma), Xu Kexiang, head of the 33rd Independent Regiment of the 35th Army of the Kuomintang Army, and He Jian, the commander of the army, Instigated to launch a counter-revolutionary rebellion, besieged Hunan Provincial Trade Unions, Provincial Farmers Association and other revolutionary mass organizations, and killed Communists and revolutionary workers and peasants. [4] The Ningkang survey was conducted in November 1927, and the Yongxin survey in the spring of 1928.
