Chapter 77 A Telegram Concerning Criticism of the U.S. Policy toward China

(July 30, 1945) Xu and Zhang[1]: (1) The U.S. embassy advised us not to criticize Chiang Kai-shek, but now they stop talking about it, and instead come to advise us not to criticize Hurley[2].American newspapers often criticize foreign heads of state. Last year they fiercely criticized Chiang Kai-shek. Why can’t the Chinese criticize Hurley? Hurley once criticized the CCP, juxtaposed the CCP with the warlords, and criticized it as the entire party. ?Our criticism is to separate the U.S. government from the American people, to separate people in the U.S. government who decide on China policy from others, and to separate some wrong policies of the U.S. government from other correct policies. As long as the US government's current policy of supporting Chiang Kai-shek and anti-communism can change one day, we will stop criticizing this policy, otherwise it will be impossible to stop. Please explain the above comments to relevant parties.

(2) Telegram [3] to Foster of the American Communist Party. Except for publication in the "Xinhua Daily" (the word "KMT" can be removed), please translate it into English and send it to the American Communist Party by express mail. Mao Zedong At 30 noon, it was published according to the manuscript. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ note [1] Xu, refers to Xu Bing (1903-1972), from Nangong, Hebei; Zhang, refers to Zhang Ming, that is, Liu Shaowen (1905-1987), from Xinyang, Henan. They are all heads of the Working Committee of the Southern Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
