Chapter 7 Letter to the Indian National Congress

(April 5, 1943) Gentlemen of the Indian National Congress: After the beginning of the Anti-Japanese War in China, your association sent a medical aid team to China to participate in the Anti-Japanese War in China, expressing its great friendship to China. All five members of this medical team work in the Eighth Route Army. Over the past four years, comrades in the medical team have traveled to the northern battlefields without hesitation.Among the five members of the medical team, except for the three who had already returned to India, Dr. Kotnis passed away due to illness in the Shanxi-Chahar-Hebei border region. Our military and civilians lost a good friend, and the Indian people lost an outstanding soldier. Now that Dr. Barthwa is returning to India, I would like to express my gratitude to your association and the Indian people! When the world anti-fascist war is striving for the final victory, we hope that the two nations of India and China will unite more firmly so that they can cooperate with other countries. All anti-fascist countries cooperate to fight in order to overthrow fascism and liberate all people oppressed by fascism. At the same time, they will liberate the two major nations of India and China and gain the independence of the two major nations.

Sincerely Warm congratulations! Mao Zedong Zhu De Published on April 5, 1943, based on the original document preserved by the Central Archives.
