Chapter 23 In memory of Mr. Sun Yat-sen[1]

(November 12, 1956) Commemorate the great revolutionary pioneer Mr. Sun Yat-sen! To commemorate his sharp struggle against the Chinese reformists with a clear stand of the Chinese revolutionary democrats during the preparation period for the Chinese democratic revolution [2].He is the banner of the Chinese revolutionary democrats in this struggle. To commemorate his great achievements in leading the people to overthrow the monarchy and establish a republic during the Revolution of 1911[3]. To commemorate his great achievements in developing the old Three People's Principles into the new Three People's Principles[4] during the first KMT-CPC cooperation period.

He left us many useful things in political thought. Modern Chinese, except for a handful of reactionaries, are all successors to Mr. Sun's revolutionary cause. We completed the democratic revolution that Mr. Sun did not complete, and developed this revolution into a socialist revolution. We are completing this revolution. Things are always evolving. The revolution of 1911, that is, the Revolution of 1911, has completely changed the face of China this year, only forty-five years. In another forty-five years, that is, in 2001, that is, when we enter the 21st century, the face of China will change even more.China will become a powerful socialist industrial country.China should be like this.Because China is a country with 9.6 million square kilometers of land and 600 million people, China should make greater contributions to mankind. However, this kind of contribution has been too little in the past for a long period of time.It makes us feel ashamed.

But be humble. Not only should it be so now, it should be so for forty-five years from now, and it should be so forever. In terms of international exchanges, the Chinese should resolutely, thoroughly, cleanly and completely eliminate great powerism. Mr. Sun is a humble man.I have heard him speak many times, and I feel that he has a magnificent spirit. From the fact that he pays attention to the study of China's historical situation and current social situation, and from the fact that he pays attention to the study of foreign conditions including the Soviet Union, we know that he is very modest.

He devoted his entire life to transforming China wholeheartedly. He really dedicated himself to death. Like many great historical figures who stand on the positive side and guide the trend of the times, most of them have their shortcomings, Mr. Sun also has his shortcomings. This is to be explained from historical conditions so that people can understand it, and should not be too demanding on the predecessors. According to the publication of "People's Daily" on November 12, 1956. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ note [1] This is an article written by Mao Zedong to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's birth.

[2] Refers to the struggle between Sun Yat-sen and the Chinese bourgeois reformists represented by Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao. After the failure of the Eighth Movement Reform Movement in 1898, Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao fled overseas, organized the Royal Society, advocated the implementation of a constitutional monarchy, and opposed the revolutionary democrats represented by Sun Yat-sen.Sun Yat-sen gradually realized the face of the reformists in the revolutionary practice and resolutely fought against them. After the founding of the Tongmenghui, the revolutionary democrats represented by Sun Yat-sen took the Minbao as their front, and from 1905 to 1907, they focused on issues such as whether to use violent revolution to overthrow the Qing government and establish a bourgeois democratic republic. , had a fierce debate with the reformists. In this struggle, the revolutionary democrats represented by Sun Yat-sen won a major victory, thus making ideological and public opinion preparations for the Revolution of 1911.

[3] Revolution of 1911, see note [22] on page 49 of this volume. [4] The Three Principles of the People are the principles and guidelines for the three issues of nationality, civil rights, and people's livelihood proposed by Sun Yat-sen in the Chinese bourgeois democratic revolution. With the different times, the contents of the Three People's Principles are different from old to new.The old Three People's Principles is the program of the old Chinese democratic revolution. In January 1924, Sun Yat-sen accepted the suggestion of the Communists and reinterpreted the Three People's Principles at the First National Congress of the Chinese Kuomintang, and the old Three People's Principles have since developed into the New Three People's Principles. The New Three People's Principles include the three major policies of uniting Russia, uniting the Communist Party, and supporting farmers and workers, as well as the program of opposing imperialism and feudalism. They were the political basis for the cooperation between the Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang during the First Civil Revolutionary War.
