"China Touches the World" is the first book I wrote after visiting hundreds of countries. It was published in 2008. The positive response from readers encouraged me and prompted me to write my second book after visiting hundreds of countries, "China Shocked: A" The Rise of the Civilized State", published in 2011, the response from readers was very enthusiastic. These two books can be said to be a pair of sisters, the former talks about China’s touch, and the latter talks about China’s shock; the former is more emotional, and the latter is more rational; the former is the foreshadowing of the latter, and the latter is the sublimation of the former , but one main thread runs through it: Chinese people must use their own words to interpret China and the world.

I am very glad that Shanghai Century Publishing Group has agreed to publish a revised edition of "China Touches the World" under the name "China Touches", reviving this long-out-of-sell book. The name of "China Touched" is more concise, and in a sense, it is more in line with one of my original intentions of writing this book, which is to touch more Chinese people to look at their own country's rise, problems and prospects from a new international perspective. I read the whole book again, and the main arguments in the book have not changed, and I think they will stand the test of time. However, some adjustments have been made to the structure of the book, from the original seven chapters to the current six chapters. I took apart the chapter "The World Is Hot and Cold", which was originally devoted to international comparisons, and incorporated them into the current first chapter. and Chapter 4, thereby giving more prominence to the content of international comparisons in these chapters. The revised version has also enriched new content in many places. For example, in the section "Compared with the world, how does China score?", an international comparison of security issues is added; in the last chapter discussing soft power, a discussion about The content of the Chinese model. In addition, some figures have been updated, some clerical errors have been corrected, and more pictures have been added.

I once said in the "Postscript" of the original version of this book: "Once a book is published, it has a life of its own. Whether the readers praise or criticize is not under the control of the author, but I also think that I am writing this book. The willingness to use Chinese discourse to discuss China and the world will only become more and more vital with the rise of China.” This is still my point of view today, and I really hope that more Chinese people will join the trend of the rise of Chinese discourse, It is useless to comment on one's own country and the outside world objectively and confidently without following the Western discourse.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank President Chen Xin and Vice President Shi Hongjun of Shanghai Century Publishing Co., Ltd., as well as editors Cai Xin and Yuan Xiaolin of Wenjing Company, for their hard work in the publication of this revised edition.I also thank many scholars and friends for their continuous encouragement and help, especially Li Junru, Li Shimo, Jin Zhongwei, Shi Zhengfu, Chen Ping, Huang Renwei, Jiang Yihua, Zhang Wenmu, Wang Wen, Xiao Sijian, Robert Kuhn, etc.I also thank many people in the Epilogue of the original edition of this book. Not long ago, Harvard University professor Niall Ferguson recounted in an article how he came up with the proposition that "the world is tilting eastward".He recalled: It may be when he first walked on the Bund in Shanghai in 2005, it may be when he listened to local cadres describe the future financial center of western China in Chongqing, or it may be at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games. From the dramatic changes in these three places in China, he realized a big proposition: the world is witnessing "the end of the West's 500-year dominance."During the two months of revision of this book, I happened to have the opportunity to stay in these three cities, and combined with my experience of visiting hundreds of countries in the past, I came to the same conclusion as Professor Ferguson: the world is tilting eastward, leaning toward China. This book is a testament to that conclusion. We are in one of the most exciting times of change in human history, and China is at the center of this historic change.May we be able to grasp the direction, seize the opportunity, remove the obstacles set up by various hostile forces at home and abroad, and boldly move forward along the path of success we have explored to realize the great rise of the Chinese nation and the glorious rejuvenation of Chinese civilization.
