Chapter 60 5. Chinese flower export

China's ambition and passion are thriving like the flower markets in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Tianjin. The 14,667-hectare peach blossoms in Beijing's Pinggu District have attracted a large number of tourists. With the rapid improvement of China's economy and people's living standards, people are more and more fond of appreciating and planting flowers! In recent years, from the poetic names of Chinese companies, we can see that the flower planting and gardening industry is booming in China. The industry has developed rapidly and has become one of the most profitable industries, while going beyond the borders of the country.

In 2011, China's flower area has reached 250,000 hectares. In the past two decades, Dounan, a small flower-growing town on the edge of Kunming, has transformed into the largest international flower market and the Asian flower planting center. The Yunnan Flower Association employs 102,000 rural households and feeds 4 million people. It mainly grows some fresh cut flowers, roses, yellow daisies, orchids and so on.At present, there are about 400 companies engaged in flower gardening, which has solved the poverty problem in the province to a certain extent.Due to the mild and suitable climate, China has about 18,000 plant species, which can be called the plant kingdom.

It all started in 1994.That year, some farmers in Yunnan got together and formed a cooperative.Today, its annual output of fresh-cut flowers has reached 210 million, which has exceeded the total output of flowers in Shanghai! The pursuit of investors has made this industry, like the tobacco industry, present a prosperous scene. In order to make up for the loss of entering the market late, Yunnan people sell fresh cut flowers in the international market.Bringing 400 million euros in revenue to the local area every year, accounting for half of China's domestic market! The annual turnover of the flower market reaches 2.27 billion euros, creating 60 million euros of foreign exchange income for the country.Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tianjin and other cities have also made remarkable achievements in the horticulture industry.

In 2020, the Yunnan Flower Market and its international airport will welcome 38 million tourists (up from 19 million in 2009). Yunnan's tobacco industry has invested about 1 million euros in this industry with great potential.Surprising?not at all.In China, investors in different fields will seize every opportunity, and they pay special attention to the development of the region. The region's economic success has made China one of the world's major centers for the fresh-cut flower trade. The essence of this leap is the vigorous development of multiple industries. To be sure, we still have a long way to go to reach the Dutch flower production. However, anything is possible in China! In five years, with scientific planning and advanced logistics, the export value of flowers has increased 25 times. In Dounan, Yunnan, more than 10,000 retailers sell 12 million flowers every day, of which roses account for 33%.

The local government's plan is to increase the export of high-end flowers by 50% by 2020, adding another impetus to further eradicating rural poverty. This goal has been partially successful. Some Chinese flower companies have become important partners of Aalsmeer Flower Auction, the largest flower auction company in the Netherlands.Chinese people like flowers very much. We can imagine that China will become the leader in the world's flower market one day in the future!
