Chapter 3 The wolf will eventually disappear

Now Taiwan's electronics industry is generally active in the operating model of Theory X, economies of scale, and pursuit of cost reduction. With the spirit of Sparta and Canglang, we will play the role of undertaking a large number of OEM orders in the global supply chain, and then gain a firm foothold in the supply chain of the global technology industry. But wolves will eventually be domesticated, and not just dogs.Throughout the development of civilization, wolves will only play an auxiliary transitional role, not a surviving species. The same is true for Sparta. This kind of organization with a single goal, suppressing human nature, and military management, in the torrent of history, will eventually return to the civilized system before it can continue to survive.

A while ago, I went to Turkey, and the people there told me that they are related to China by blood, and some local friends, their surnames are really "Ogotai", "Chahatai", etc. , they are the descendants of the Mongols. In history, the Mongols with the character of prairie wolves swept across Eurasia with their iron cavalry. During the Yuan Dynasty, they gradually migrated to Turkey in pursuit of expanding the power of the prairie. However, these descendants of nomadic people who were originally chasing aquatic plants gradually became the lifestyle of farming people after they took root in Turkey. But in modern times, Turks no longer live by grass and water, but are more actively integrated into the global civilization system. They seek the opportunity to join the European Union and seek a way of life that is closely integrated with modern civilization.

The example of the Mongols can really make us think about whether this nomadic industrial type is good or bad for Taiwan's manufacturing industry, and how will it affect its long-term survival? What can we leave for Taiwan society? The mainstream value of Taiwan's current industry has been seriously distorted. Everyone sees it as a story of success, and praises and even imitates these wolf-like and nomadic business models. But what everyone doesn't know, or deliberately ignores, is how many social resources and unreasonable, legal, and unreasonable methods may be used behind these success stories. It would be unfair to society if such success is celebrated or lauded without revealing the full story behind it and discussing the pros and cons of this business model.

The biggest challenge facing the electronics industry at present is that there seem to be a lot of voices in the whole society to encourage and support the direction of a distorted mainstream value. The whole society is strengthening and encouraging the wolf-style, nomadic, and Spartan-style business models, so the wolf-like nature must be stronger and the Spartanization must be deeper military management. Many people should have heard the story of some electronics companies in mainland China asking their employees to catch flies. Some manufacturers have gone to other countries, treating people like dogs and yelling at employees. There are too many such incidents, and they reflect the wolfish and Spartan thinking trap that Taiwan's electronics industry is currently falling into.

But such practices are against the trend, they just apply the management skills discarded by the advanced western countries. This is a naked, primitive, and violent management method, but it is used by Taiwan and many Asian manufacturers as a competitive weapon. In my opinion, the spirit of Canglang is not necessarily beneficial to Taiwan. Management should return to the origin of people and seek the greatest balance of interests among enterprises, shareholders, employers, and employees. Although the operating mode of the manufacturing industry is an operating enterprise, it directly and indirectly affects the lifestyles of millions of employees, families, shareholders, and even customers. It's just that most of Taiwan's electronics industry lacks customer thinking, because end users are insulated and isolated from them.

Therefore, many of the mainstream values praised by society today may be just bubbles, which are bubbles that are produced in stages. The long river of history is constantly scouring the traces left behind. Looking back now, whether it is the era of the wolf or the Spartan-style high-handed rule, there are only a few stories that have been handed down, but there is nothing left for us. The ordinances and systems that later generations imitated and studied, or the civilization systems that have deeply affected human life and are nostalgic. The final fate of the wolf in history will disappear, because the grassland will always be eaten up one day. What will survive in the end?I can almost say with certainty that there will be no wolves. Only human beings who know how to live in a civilized way, use more civilized means, more cultural thinking, and a business model with a more historical view can survive.

The nomadic type of industry also makes the relationship between these wolf-type manufacturers and Taiwan more and more uprooted. As mentioned in the book, nomads are chasing fertile grasslands and sufficient water sources. When the grass is exhausted and the water is exhausted, they have to change places. Therefore, these wolf-type manufacturers are currently based in the vast production bases in the southern part of the mainland or eastern China. When civilization develops and brings better living standards, it is time to migrate again. The purpose of running a business is to pursue higher added value, but the increase in added value still has a lot to do with the long-term and short-term process of the company, which is the so-called sustainable value.Although human life is limited and it is impossible to manage a company until the end of time, this sustainable value is very important to the overall Taiwanese society. It is necessary to pursue a model with long-term historical significance, leave more visible value to future generations of society, and establish a broad growth space for added value, which is the development focus that the industry should care about.

The story of Taiwanese businessmen living on the other side is a history of blood and tears. Some people may ask: Where is the way for Taiwanese businessmen to return home? What I want to say is that if the entire Taiwanese society cannot enter into a society with deeper civilized thinking and more room for value creation, then the road of Taiwanese businessmen will be a road of no return. In fact, the vulgar culture presented by Taiwanese businessmen in the mainland is a phenomenon of cultural regression. It is equivalent to copying the technique that Taiwan has gone through in the past twenty or thirty years, from poverty to wealth, to a familiar development area. This is not very helpful to promote the progress of the entire civilized society, but only delays the speed of evolution.

Relatively speaking, many people think that Taiwan's lifestyle is more advanced and more culturally connotative than that of the mainland. This may be true, but there is not much room for value creation. Because, if the products of civilization are only consumed internally, and the creation of value is only the result of a group of people trading with each other, it is not enough to survive for a long time.Today, a descendant of Chahatai who immigrated to Turkey would not want to go back to Mongolia. Mongolia has no nostalgia for them. The value of Yuanxiang lies in the creation of civilization, and a branded industrial environment can make people identify with the land.

At present, Taiwan's wolf-style and nomadic business model should have more impact on the overall value of society than creation. In general history and industrial history, there have been too many similar cases that we can learn from and reflect on.If we don't think, reflect, and adjust our actions, and continue to follow the ranks of mainstream values that have been severely distorted, Taiwan's prospects will be in dire straits.
