After 2001, I became deeply interested in Sino-US relations. At that time, I was working for Fred Alger Management. At that time, the most important thing I considered was how to discover potential investment opportunities. With the support of Fred Alger, I began to try to create a fund to help American and European investors benefit from China's economic development. So, I came to China and finally established such a fund in the autumn of 2003. I got help from many people in my work, including investment experts from Jardine Fleming Investment in Hong Kong, especially Mr. Man Wing Chung, who later became our co-investment fund manager.Scobie Ward and Blair Pickerell are two experts on investing in China, and I have learned a lot from them.In addition, I have benefited greatly from working with Dan Chung, who is now an associate manager at the fund and president of Fred Alger Management.Later, I further broadened my horizons in contact with the experts at Martin Currie Investment Management Company (Martin Currie), especially James Chong who was very helpful to me.I also had the support of many of my colleagues at Fred Alger Management during those years, such as Chistina Hapern and Charles Boinello.

After the idea for this book took shape, I sought out Scott Moyers of Wylie Agency, a well-known British publishing agency, for his dedication, wisdom, and mastery of the publishing business, as well as his The keen sense of the book market has greatly helped the successful publication of this book.I would also like to thank James Pullen of Wiley's for his tireless work in making this book available in Asia and elsewhere in the world. Still others proofread drafts of books without asking for anything in return, correcting messy manuscripts and constant spelling mistakes. My wife, Nicole Alger, has been a great help with this book, and her advice and pointers have kept it up to date.My father, David Karabell, had the initial checks on this book, and if it hadn't been for his warning, it would have been the subject of a lawsuit.Eric Olson gave me many tips, and Orville Schell and Minxin Pei provided me with many critical essays and facts to support the arguments in this book.I believe this could have been a rather poor book without their careful reading.

At Simon & Schuster, I had the good fortune to meet Alice Mayhew, who over the years has helped many authors get their work out into the world.David Rosenthal provided key input on the title of this book. This book was made possible thanks to the hard day-to-day work of Karen Thompson and Royer Labrie.Over at Simon & Schuster's official website, Victoria Meyer and Kelly Lynch put a lot of enthusiasm into the marketing of this book.Don Epstein of the Greater Talent Network brings the topics discussed in this book to a wider audience. The term "Central America" coined by Niall Ferguson appears frequently in this book, and it is an appropriate term to interpret the special relationship between China and the United States.Mr. Ferguson was one of the first to discover that the relationship between China and the United States is not an ordinary close relationship. "Central America" has profound meaning and long-lasting vitality.

Finally, I would like to thank my wife, Nicole, and my two sons, Griffin and Jasper.Maybe my sons don't know what their dad is doing yet, but I'll tell them as soon as I can that I'm motivated to create just by having them around.Nicole has always believed in me and given me great support, that has never changed, and I am infinitely grateful for that.
