The phone on the other end rang only once, and a harsh male voice said, "You better have a good reason for calling this number."
The next moment Decker heard the beep of the answering machine, and he recited what he had to say. "I'm Steve Decker. You should be familiar with my name. Your people have watched me in Santa Fe. I have something important to talk to Mr. Giordano about Diana Scott. The killing of Larry and her husband. Also involved is a federal court marshal named Brian McKittrick. I'll call back in 30 minutes."
Decker put the phone back on the phone and stepped out of the glass-dripping booth, through the dark rain and fog, to the door of a closed equipment store, where Esperanza was waiting for him.
