Chapter 6 Section 5: Identify opportunities from problems (2)

The cases mentioned above gave us a lot of inspiration: First, opportunities are everywhere. As long as you pay attention, you can find many problems that need to be solved at any time and any place.Finding a seat at a busy restaurant, filling up a bike, etc. are small problems, as we usually do.And those problems that are closely related to social development are big problems. As the successful entrepreneur, Sun Microsystems founder Vinod Khosla said, "The bigger the problem, the bigger the opportunity, and no one will pay You solve problems that are not problems." Second, no matter how big or small a problem is, a solution can usually be found using available resources. Many of my colleagues use this principle to cultivate students' innovative thinking: an innovative person must be able to discover problems and turn them into opportunities. They use limited resources in innovative ways to achieve their goals. However, when most people encounter a problem, the first thing that comes to their mind is that the problem seems insoluble, so they ignore creative solutions, and even if they are in front of them, they miss them.

Third, we often lock problems into narrow frames. For example, when faced with the simple question of making money in two hours, most people immediately think of those stereotypical "standard" answers. They don't revisit issues or look at them from a wider perspective. In fact, when this layer of blindfold is removed, the world will be very different, full of opportunities everywhere. The students who participated in this project have deeply realized this point. They firmly believe that in their later life, they will never give up easily, because there are always so many problems waiting for you to solve around you.

These activities are inspired by the innovation and creativity courses I teach at Stanford University. The purpose is to tell everyone that as long as there are innovative methods, all problems can be transformed into an opportunity.Usually, at the beginning, I put more energy into developing the creativity of individuals, then the creativity of the team, and then develop the creativity of the whole organization on this basis. At first, I will arrange some small challenges for the students, and then continue to increase the difficulty. During this process, the students adapt to this method and learn to find opportunities through problems. In later life, no matter what they encounter Will face any problem bravely.
