Chapter 2 2. Inferiority and self-deception

We all have inferiority complexes to varying degrees because we all find ourselves in a position that we wish to improve upon.If we keep our courage alive, we can improve the environment in the only direct, practical, and perfect way to get us out of this feeling. No one can endure a feeling of inferiority for long; it must induce him to take some action to relieve himself of the tension. If a man is discouraged, if he no longer thinks that down-to-earth efforts can improve his situation, he still cannot bear his feelings of inferiority, he will still try to get rid of them, but the methods he uses will not make him any better. progress.

His goal is still to "overcome difficulties," but instead of trying to overcome obstacles, he intoxicates himself, or numbs himself, with a sense of superiority. At the same time, his feelings of inferiority will build up because the situation that created them remains the same and the problem remains.Every step he takes gradually leads him into self-deception, and his problems press upon him with increasing pressure. If we only looked at his movements without trying to understand them, we would think he was aimless. They gave us the impression that they had no plans to improve their surroundings.

What we see is that he, like everyone else, puts all his energy into making himself feel right, but gives up hope of changing objective circumstances, and all his actions are tinged with this.If he feels weak, he will run to an environment that makes him feel strong. Instead of training himself to be stronger and more resilient, he trained himself to appear stronger in his own eyes. His efforts to deceive himself are only partially successful. If he feels powerless to deal with such lingering problems, he may turn into a tyrant to reaffirm his own importance. He may have anesthetized himself in this way, but the real inferiority complex remained intact. They are still old feelings of inferiority caused by old situations. They can become long dormant undercurrents in the spiritual life.In this case, we can call it an "inferiority complex".

Now, we should give an inferiority complex a definition- An inferiority complex arises when a person is faced with a problem which he cannot adequately deal with, and expresses that he is absolutely incapable of solving it.From this definition we can see that anger can be as much an expression of an inferiority complex as tears and apologies.Since the feeling of inferiority always creates tension, compensatory moves towards a sense of superiority must also occur, but their purpose is not to solve the problem. The moves for superiority are always directed toward the unhelpful side of life, while the real problems are either glossed over or left undiscussed. The individual limits his sphere of activity, seeking to avoid failure rather than to pursue success. He will show hesitation, hesitation, and even retreat in the face of difficulties.
