Chapter 28 Chapter 27 Pornographic Material

Unlike in some western countries or Hong Kong, where one can legally buy or rent pornographic material on the street; in China, the sale and rental of pornographic material is strictly prohibited. However, throughout the course of my investigation, I discovered time and time again that pornographic material is not as rare in Chinese life as outsiders think.Almost all of my survey respondents have more or less access to such materials. In addition to pornographic video tapes, many women admit to having read "Lady Chatterley's Lover"), "Jin Ping Mei" and other books.Although many of them said they didn't like this kind of thing, some people just looked at it to see what it was like, and it didn't serve any other purpose; It has fixed functions, such as learning function, function of helping sex, etc., so it is always available at home.

I was really surprised when a woman who was definitely not "trendy" in her behavior and ideas and was even quite "old-fashioned" admitted to me that she had seen a "pornographic video" (a pornographic video) Thinking of it, the popularity of pornographic materials may far exceed the impression of the police or even the general public. If it were not for the fact that the law does not punish the public, but strictly enforced the law that prohibits watching such videos and videos, and arrested everyone who has seen such films, 70 to 80% of adults would probably be imprisoned.I remember that in the early 1980s, there was an attempt to do this in Beijing's anti-pornography campaign. As a result, all the detention centers were immediately full, and temporary prisons had to be used.

This is due to the underestimation of the proportion of the population who have seen such material.Fortunately, the relevant laws and regulations have become laws that are only written on paper and not strictly enforced. Otherwise, the country will have to allocate astronomical funds to expand detention centers and prisons. Kempel attitude towards pornographic material An intellectual woman said: "The existence of pornography is inevitable, and it is determined by the biological characteristics of both sexes." One woman attributed her change in her perception of sex from 'dirty', 'nasty', 'obscene' to 'natural' to social influence and pornographic material, saying: 'It's about social influence and every family can See pornographic tapes. (Of course, in fact, not every family has them. This is just her impression of the families she knows. But from this, it can be seen that the prevalence of pornographic materials in families is probably much higher than ordinary people imagine. ) I think it is okay and necessary for couples to watch this kind of tape. To guide a couple's sex life, you must have skills. But I don't want to watch Hong Kong and Taiwan movies, I would like to watch Western ones.

I don't think there is any danger. If there are minors at home, don't tell them, just hide the belt. " One woman mentioned that pornographic tapes were used by her husband as a preparatory activity for intercourse: "He (referring to the husband) sometimes watches the tapes before doing that." Another husband tried to use such material to stimulate his wife's sexual desire: "I don't like to do that. He sometimes shows me those photos and paintings. He gets very excited when he sees such things. I just wanted to After creating a meritorious service, he is very tired when he goes home every day, and he is very sad if he can't take care of it."

"I don't like normal porn, it feels disgusting to watch; I like watching porn with a storyline." "Caucasian porn is good, some Asian porn is ugly, too ugly" "I've seen porn, I'm not interested in this kind of stuff; but I don't object to these things, and it's okay if someone wants to watch it Criticism, I just feel tired of attacking these things. I have been to Hungary, watched this kind of video, and there are real performances. There is a place where two Flynns are cast, the curtain is opened, and there are women doing sexy actions inside I think it should be possible to get more yellow belts for people to see, there is no need to ban them. Traditional women work hard every day and have no conditions to cultivate their own charm. They should be allowed to enjoy life."

"I think it is beneficial to use this kind of film to educate teenagers about sex." "I watched it alone, at a boyfriend's house, and he offered me to watch it. I didn't find it disgusting, I just found it exciting.I think the European and American ones are good, but the Japanese ones are not good. I have a dirty feeling. I think they are perverted, and they always like to act like masochists. I think this kind of thing is okay for adults to read, and those with high cultural accomplishment can learn some methods and understand some social phenomena, but it is not useful for young people to read it. "

A woman who later cohabited with others talked about the impact of pornographic materials on her sexual concept: "I used to hate this kind of thing and find it boring. My friend is very gentle now. He lends me the tape to watch, and I feel better later. That’s why I think it’s a woman’s happiness.” negative attitude towards pornographic material "I watched porn once, and it was disgusting. Some people said it was exciting, but I didn't feel that way." "I didn't dare to watch it at first, I felt disgusted, but I found it stimulating physically." "I watched TV once in Macau, and I couldn't understand anything else, so I watched porn.

I find it particularly ugly, ugly, and disgusting. " "I've seen porn twice. The first time was at a friend's house and they've seen it all and I'm left to watch it and I'm sick of it. It's like a french flick. I can't stand bestiality, A couple of people promiscuously together these episodes. Only one of the women and the two men's episodes feel pretty good. At the time, I just thought that this woman must be very comfortable. Overall I don't like watching it, not like some people It was blood boiling." "I like strong emotions, but I don't like revealing ones. I feel disgusted after watching them. I have watched "Playboy" and "Golden Hug".

"I've seen porn, and I don't feel very good. I like the stimulating feeling of literature, and I don't like being so direct." "I think pornographic video tapes are blasphemy. The story of a movie must be connected with the plot, so that you can be emotional after watching it, otherwise it will become the animal world. I dare not watch it, I don't want to watch it, I feel disgusted." "I think porn videos are disgusting. Actually, I don't think there is anything bad about oral sex and anal sex." "I don't like reading this kind of book. I feel sleepy and uninterested. It's better to practice."

"I've read "Manna's Diary" (an underground erotic novel that was once very popular in Beijing), only two or three pages. ; how to tease her cousin; how to peel off her clothes for boys to touch and lick; how does it feel after touching. I was disgusted after reading it, and thought it was instigated by hooligans. The novel has no emotion at all, but it has feelings and feelings. Action, directed." A woman has a son who is in middle school. She said: "I asked him two things, one is not to gamble, and the other is not to watch pornographic videos. My son's answer surprised me. He said, I have seen it before, Mom, don't you want to see it, I'll get you a few dishes to see."

Many women reported that their husbands mainly like to watch pornographic materials, and they don't like them at all.A woman said: "I went to sleep after watching it for a while, but he loved watching it so much that he even recorded it after watching it. I just felt sick after watching it." A woman whose natal family is in Shanghai talked about the difference between Beijingers and Shanghainese on the issue of pornography. She said: "Shanghai people are very conservative and well-behaved; Beijing people don't care, and even if they watch pornographic movies, they will tell a lot of people to watch it. Even if Shanghai people watch it, they will definitely not be like this. Talk about warmth, talk about privacy and tacit understanding." During the investigation, it was also found that there were people who had never watched any pornographic material. One of them said: "I want to watch pornographic videos, but I don't know what they are like, so I have no opinion." Debates surrounding pornography and censorship have a long history in the West. The social purification and obscurantism movement in the Victorian era began with the queen’s decree prohibiting the publication of obscene books. At first, it was just confiscation or destruction of pornographic books. Later, it affected many famous classics, even the works of Shakespeare, Milton, and Dante. Writings were censored, and even sexual passages from the Bible were abridged. In England in the 17th century, obscene pornography without religious themes was not banned; when anti-obscenity laws were passed in the 18th century, pornography without religious content was also censored. In 1868, a ruling made by British judge Hickling et al. defined obscenity and pornography, that is, to see whether the alleged obscenity was intended to poison and corrupt those whose hearts were ready to accept it. unethically influenced persons, or whether such publications were knowingly placed into their hands. The United States has also legislated to prohibit the import of obscene and pornographic materials. In the 1920s, U.S. Customs banned the import of works by the likes of Balzac and Voltaire. Later, the U.S. Supreme Court questioned the definition of Hickling, and proposed a new definition of obscenity and pornography based on the book publishing case: measured by the standards of contemporary society, if the material as a whole, its theme is to evoke Ordinary people's interest in lust, and it has absolutely no social significance. In other words, the U.S. Supreme Court has three criteria for judging whether it is obscene: first, the subject matter that governs the entire work must be obscene; second, it must be offensive to the common norms of society; value. (Laria et al., p. 157) In 1959, based on this definition, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected New York State's request to ban the film and approved the screening of the film on the grounds that "ideologically or thematically obscene "It's unconstitutional. (Quoted from Sevitz et al., pp. 145-146) Subsequently, in 1964, it revolved around the release of the French film "Lovers", and in 1966, it revolved around "Founny.Hill" book, the Supreme Court has repeatedly revised the definition of obscenity and pornography.Because this definition is so difficult, the Supreme Court delegated the power of interpretation to state courts, and some state courts delegated it to district courts, allowing them to define according to their own standards. It can be seen that compared with countries that do not pay attention to the legal system, it is much more complicated and difficult for countries that pay attention to the legal system. In 1970, Congress appointed a national commission to investigate pornography, and their report surprised lawmakers. The report found that exposure to pornography had little apparent harm either to the individual or to society in general. There is no necessary connection between obscene and pornographic publications and sexual crimes and sexual misdemeanors. An eloquent fact is: no society has increased crime rates due to the proliferation of obscene pornography; nor has a government collapsed due to the proliferation of obscene pornography. The explanation for this goes back to the Kinsey investigation. The Kinsey survey has long found that sexual fantasies only play a small role in the sexual behavior of men with low social status and less education; because most sex offenders are not well educated, they lack sexual fantasies; A strong response to pornography was associated with fantasies; therefore obscene pornography was not a direct factor in their sexual crimes.Given that 85 percent of adult men and 70 percent of adult women have been exposed to pornography in some way or another, and that most American adults have been exposed to these publications regardless of legal prohibitions, it is better to reduce controls and relax policies. The final recommendations of this special committee are: to abolish all restrictions and prohibitions on adult access to pornography; to repeal all anti-pornographic laws applicable to adults. (Quoted from Larry et al., pp. 165-166) The most widely known issue of obscenity and pornography is the "Danish Experiment".In 1967 and 1969, Denmark liberalized the marketing of obscene literature and visual products in two steps. The two main results of the Danish experiment are: first, after the legalization, the production and sale of obscene and pornographic materials went through a brief climax A sharp decline, and most citizens have developed a disgust for obscene pornography.A study of the consequences of watching a lot of pornography showed that the sexual behavior of the subjects did not change. Although they thought about sex more at first, their sexual fantasies soon dropped to the level before viewing.Tests have shown that viewing pornographic pornography has the effect of steadily reducing interest in pornographic pornography, and that constant exposure to such material results in satiation and boredom.Their desires are completely satisfied and they are tired.Second, the crime rate has dropped. In 1967, the crime rate dropped by 25% compared with the previous year; in 1968, it dropped by another 10%; by 1969, when obscenity and pornography were completely lifted, the crime rate dropped by 31%.Among them, the crime of molesting children has dropped by 80%; the crime rate and reporting rate of exhibitionism have dropped; (Gagnon, p. 321) In the 10 years following the legalization of obscene pornography, there has been no increase in sexual crimes of any kind.Efforts to relax laws controlling pornography, homosexuality and abortion have been successful in countries such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, West Germany and Sweden. From the 60s to the 70s, most western countries went through a transition from de jure moralism to a more liberal legal system.According to statistics, the sex crime rate in the West remained relatively stable until the 1960s, but declined quite rapidly in the 1960s, and this was the era when many Western countries relaxed their policies on pornography. Currently, there are three basic theories on the issue of pornography: the first is the imitation theory, that is, people will imitate the behavior seen in pornography; the second is the catharsis theory, that viewing pornography will make pent Catharsis of libido, which reduces sexual drive and reduces antisocial behavior in some men; a third theory is irrelevance, which holds that pornography does not stimulate or degrade sexual behavior. On the issue of obscenity and pornography, there are also fierce debates and very different positions among the various theoretical schools of feminism status. The women's movement approached this issue not from a moral perspective, but from a sexist and feminist perspective. In the United Kingdom, feminists are divided into two distinct camps on the issue of banning pornography: Radical feminists are generally opposed to pornography, arguing that the production and consumption of pornography should be banned; In contrast, feminism argues that the dangers of censorship outweigh the dangers of pornography. The former's rebuttal to the latter is: censorship does not exist only on the issue of pornography, censorship always exists, it checks all kinds of publications all the time, and censorship and prohibition of pornography do not affect the censorship Played too much role in fueling the flames. These two positions are based on different principles and emphasize different aspects: those who oppose the prohibition of pornography emphasize the principle of freedom of speech; while those who advocate the prohibition of pornography believe that the production and sale of pornography is violence against women legalization. Therefore, some people summarize the two positions of feminism on pornography as anti-pornography and anti-censorship, and some people regard the attitude of feminists on pornography By country: In the UK and Australia, views advocating the prohibition and opposition to pornography prevailed; while in the US, more feminists defended free speech and were wary of the dangers of censorship. In the United States, Congress and the courts debate how to deal with obscene publications. People are divided into two factions in favor of sanctioning obscene publications, and those who oppose sanctioning obscene publications ask the other party to explain their position. Politics, law and philosophy in accordance with. In the 1970s, feminist organizations of the anti-pornographic faction mobilized consumers to boycott pornographic publications and were very active in sanctioning pornographic publications.Their main point is that in the production and consumption of pornography, women become "commodities" consumed by men, and they are dominated, used, and humiliated.Feminists against obscenity and pornography believe that obscenity is only a moral concept, but pornography is a political practice, a political practice that involves both those with power and those without power. But even within this faction there is much debate about how important the issue of pornography is and whether it is a cause or effect of women's oppression. Some people believe that pornography is the direct cause of men's violence against women, but many people think this view is not convincing enough; Indirect causes of women's attitudes. Feminists who hold this position place a lot of emphasis on pornography with violent content. Therefore, in addition to the word pornography, they have created the word gorenography to refer to pornography with violent content; Whether there is violence in it, it is itself a form of violence against women. On the other hand, they also remind the public to be wary of purely violent content that does not contain obscene content. They argue that the U.S. film rating system ignores non-sexual violence against women. There is a lot of violent content that thrives because it is not classified as obscene. This school of feminists points out that pornography has become a billion-dollar industry and commands public respect and professional prestige. They discussed the impact of obscene publications on women and examined sexual violence in the mass media and its indirect impact on violence against women.Their research establishes a causal model in which cultural and personal variables interact to cause antisocial behavior. They believe that in the media, advertisers always intentionally or unintentionally portray battered women as voluntary masochists.A telephone survey was conducted using print ads and a television commercial as examples.Surveys have shown that advertisers are fully aware of the implications of violence against women in their advertisements, but consider them to be done in a sense of humor; many women also believe that the nature of the insults to women contained in the media is not a serious problem. They believe this shows that women have become accustomed to seeing themselves as victims in the process of socialization. In 1986, the campaign against the production and sale of obscene publications brought together two radically different groups, radical feminism and the evangelical church. However, the reasons and tactics used by these two groups to attack obscene publications are markedly different.Radical feminism sees obscene publications as the systematic oppression of women by men, suggesting that deep down women secretly enjoy sexual abuse. They sought evidence to prove a causal link between obscenity and violence against women, and they supported anti-obscenity legislation on the grounds that obscenity violated women's civil rights, but their efforts to legislate failed.Evangelical churches have been more successful than feminists in influencing the legislature. They also look for evidence from empirical research that obscene publications harm families. They succeeded in getting the legislature to impose censorship on obscene publications and to remove magazines such as Playboy from easily accessible bookstores and libraries. In the United Kingdom, the anti-pornography campaign initiated by Clare Short and Jo Richardson has been going on for several years. The goal of the campaign is to promote the legislative process to eliminate the behavior of publishing low-level and indecent images of women for profit. It is illegal and punishable by fines.Women's anti-violence groups felt their stance was not radical enough, advocating the criminalization of the production and distribution of obscene pornography. In Australia, Women Against Violent Exploitation has also campaigned against pornography. The most famous figures in the ban on pornography are American feminists Catherine Mackinnon and Andrea Dworkin. Their main argument against pornography is that pornography is about men dominating women. The West divides obscenity and pornography into two categories: hardcore and softcore. In so-called hardcore pornography, women are bound, whipped, tortured, humiliated, and killed; in so-called softcore pornography, women are grabbed and used.Dworkin points out: "Gender relations are a simple, ahistorical form in which men oppress women. The mechanism of this oppression is heterosexual intercourse." (Quoted from Campbell, p. 25) She argues that obscene publications violated women's civil rights; she argued that individual women should be allowed to sue for damages for obscene publications as a new offense. She pointed out that the original meaning of the word porne in ancient Greece is the most indecent prostitute; and the female image in pornography is to equate women with prostitutes. She further pointed out that obscene publication is a form of violence that awakens the death instinct in men and directs it against women.Even though some obscene publications do not directly describe violence, the ideology behind their characters is still a violent expression of the concept of the male world. She calls it "masculine truth." This view was attacked by other feminists who accused the radical feminist of not discovering a "masculine truth" but of inventing a radical feminist myth of a "masculine truth"; the effect of her views It does not enhance the understanding and communication between men and women, but increases the distance between the sexes. McKinnon and Dworkin co-authored a Municipal Ordinance that would allow victims of sexual violence to sue authors of obscene material -- "persons indirectly responsible for the crime."The draft decree was not initially approved.Between 1989 and 1990, in Indianapolis, USA, a local authority approved an ordinance. The statute provides that women can sue when: first, when they are coerced into producing obscene pornography; secondly, when they are coerced into viewing obscene pornography; thirdly, when they are when the violation is a direct consequence of pornography; fourth, the public production and sale of pornography is a violation of women's civil rights. As soon as this bill was introduced, it immediately caused heated debate. The main opponent of the bill is "The Feminist Anti-Cen-sorship Taskforce" (FACT), whose representatives include Linda Gordon, Millie Special (KateMillett), Richie (AdrienneRich) and Robin (GayleRubin).Robin pointed out that there are two tendencies on this issue, one is to resolutely criticize all kinds of restrictions and repression on female sexuality; the other is to support conservative anti-sexual views. She herself is of course a supporter of the former tendency. (Bac-chi, 211) What they worry about is that people with conservative anti-sex views will unknowingly fall into the trap of moralists, limiting women's pursuit of their own sexual desires and pleasures; the reasons for opposing the bill are also worried that it Used by the conservative right to censor feminist views and publications in defense of traditional family values.Russell also expressed his concern about feminists falling into the trap of moralism in his early years. He said: "Initially, what equality between men and women requires is not only related to political issues, but also related to sexual morality... Those pioneers who fight for women's rights They are a group of draconian moralists who wish to bind men in the same moral chains that formerly bound women." (Russell, p. 64) Dworkin's response to this concern is: If our laws are censorship laws, why aren’t anti-racist laws censorship laws?Enormous controversy has slowed progress against pornography.McKinnon and Dworkin have been attacked as gender essentialists who have made the concept of gender a cross-cultural and trans-historical universal, imposing a different experience on women of different classes, races, nationalities, and sexual orientations. a false unity. Here, feminists encounter a dilemma: as a liberal, the production of obscene pornography should not be prohibited; as a feminist, the production of obscene pornography should be prohibited. It has been suggested that feminism should not "self-censor", nor should it allow others to censor themselves. It is necessary to oppose the "McCarthy strategy" and criticize the desexualized (asexual) values of Victorian women. Feminist Elizabeth Vallance once said such a thoughtful sentence: "I am increasingly inclined to the view that if you are a liberal, it will be difficult for you to think intellectually that prohibits There are legitimate reasons for obscenity and pornography." (Quoted by Bacchi, p. 203) Feminists who oppose the ban on pornography argue that the American Obscenity Inspection Board report exaggerates the harmful consequences of obscenity , overemphasizing the potential impact of obscene publications on violence against women. The main point of contention they raise is whether there should be a distinction between pornography that contains violence and pornography that is not violent; distinguishing pornography from pornography. There is a finer point of view that distinguishes obscene publications from pornographic publications. The survey showed that the former received negative reviews; but the latter received positive reviews; obscene publications with violent content received the most negative reviews. (Senn, 1990) Feminists who oppose the prohibition of pornography point to research showing that exposure to violent pornographic publications and film and television productions rarely leads to aggressive or anti-feminine sexual images and attitudes towards women. There was no relationship between exposure to obscene publications and attitudes towards women.Aside from adolescents, those who are considered vulnerable to pornography are potential sex offenders, who commit crimes due to pornography. But a study of sex offenders in custody compared with other prisoners and the general population showed that exposure to pornography affected the three groups no differently; the difference between delinquency and non-criminalism was more dependent on age, education, and social Differences in economic class. It was pointed out that the issue of obscene publications was originally raised with moral motives.Although more people are now asking the question from the perspective of feminism, it is still a moral issue, but in the current formulation, science and scientists play an important role. They created a myth, the myth of a causal relationship between obscenity and violence. (Alti-more, 1991) Particularly striking in this debate over pornographic material is the anti-censorship stance of liberal feminism, which emphasizes that prohibiting the publication of pornographic material hurts both freedom of the press and The basic principle of freedom of speech supports authoritarian censorship; damage to basic human rights is also damage to women's rights; censorship of others also censors oneself. An obvious consequence is that if pornographic publications are generally prohibited, lesbian pornographic publications are also banned, which hurts the interests of these women. Therefore, some people suggested that what should be done is not to prohibit pornographic publications in general, but to change the situation that men were the main consumers of pornographic materials in the past, and to publish more pornographic materials for women, so as to change the status of women in this field. The situation of exploitation and consumption also maintains the basic principles of freedom of the press. They suggested that what we women need is not to ban male-centered pornography; but to produce female-centered pornography; instead of prohibiting men from "consuming" women, women should "consume" men, or Women themselves "consume" themselves. They further proposed that a new set of obscene pornographic discourse should be created to create female pornography/erotica, express female sexuality in women's words instead of men's words, and change traditional pornography The power relationship reflected in - the consumption of men using women as commodities.Their slogan on the issue of obscenity and pornography is: "Born by women, for women (by women, for women)". (Richard-son, p. 96) This point of view has the following empirical basis: Some people have studied the similarities and differences in the sensitivity of men and women to pornographic materials, and the result is unexpected: women have stronger reactions to pornographic materials than men.Historically, there has been a stereotype that men are far more sensitive to pornographic material than women, based largely on the fact that women in the Kinsey sample reported responding to pornographic material at significantly lower rates than men. For example, about half of men reported being sexually aroused by pornographic stories at times; only 14 percent of women who heard such stories were ever aroused. However, the latest survey found quite different results. In 1970, a study of the responses of 128 male and female college students to obscene pornographic slides and movies showed that there was no or little difference in the responses of men and women to obscene pornographic materials. There was also a strong arousal response; all women and nearly all men had genital responses; women, but not men, reported an increase in intimacy and intercourse within 24 hours of viewing such pornographic material. Therefore, it is unfounded to say that women are not sensitive to such obscene and pornographic material. The famous 1975 Heyman experiment used measuring devices to record the physical responses of both sexes to obscene pornographic material. The important results of this study are: first, the obvious sexual behavior description class pornography has the greatest stimulating effect; in terms of physiological measurement and self-rating, both men and women show the strongest response to pornographic content; women The response to its stimulation is stronger than that of men; and for purely romantic stories, neither men nor women arouse sexual responses.Second, both sexes felt that female-initiated and female-centered plots were the most sexually arousing.Third, women are sometimes unaware of their physical arousal. (Hayter, pp. 337-339) On the issue of obscenity and pornography, the situation in Russia is a bit special: since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the obscenity and pornography industry has flourished. The atmosphere of sexual freedom mixed with political freedom has brought a political color to the debate on obscenity and pornography there that the West does not have. In Russia, starting in 1985, there was a public debate about pornography in the media. In 1988, one of the most famous pornographic incidents occurred: in the Russian CCTV TV program "Around Midnight", an obscene pornographic performance was broadcast on Volovsky Street in Moscow, and one of them only wiped his body. Some creamy nudes. The incident brought the debate to a head.In addition, in recent years, a large number of women's "overhead" photos and semi-nude photos have appeared in Russian newspapers; obscene magazines have appeared in the form of joint ventures; many companies that openly sell obscene photos have sprung up across the country; Qi held the first Russian "Porn Festival" (Festival of Erotica).People are puzzled by this: these phenomena seem to be liberated from sexual repression, but are also linked to the commodification of the female image. The public discussion in Russia revolves around two issues: first, the boundaries of what is permissible for such activities, and second, discussions about sexual morality and behavior. So far all Russian pornographic pornography has shown nude women and is clearly intended for a male audience; the sexual act itself and non-heterosexual sexual expression is currently relatively rare.People's opinions mostly focus on two aspects: From the positive effect, it is the relaxation of taboos, creating a relaxed atmosphere in China; from the negative effect, this kind of phenomenon is the commercial use and commercial exploitation of women. A notable feature of the debate over obscenity that began in 1985 is that it has a fairly overtly political undertone.Article 228 of the Russian Criminal Code prohibits obscenity, and the scale of obscenity varies greatly from the broadest to the narrowest, and this definition is often determined according to political rather than legal standards. In Kyiv, there is an underground organization called "Progressive Political Porn Group".They see pornography as anti-conservative; its heroine is a symbol not only of pornography but of political revolution. (Rai, 130-144) The foreign debate around pornography seems to be far from the reality in China, and China has no room for debate on this issue. This is not because the problem has been solved—as mentioned, my research has shown that underground consumption of pornographic material is widespread, though not overt—but because Chinese society lacks a tradition of freedom of the press and Awareness of fundamental rights.I think that with the further modernization of Chinese society, sooner or later this issue will be put on the agenda of public discussion. We should have hope for China's progress.
