Chapter 24 Tip 21 Brilliant!

Every father who puts his baby to sleep and the child says, "Daddy, Daddy, tell me the story of the 3 little pigs (or the story of the dancing princesses, or how you and Mummy met) one more time," is a father will smile happily.Because Daddy knew that the little baby was fascinated when he heard this story for the first time, so he wanted to listen to it again and again. This kind of childish talk inspires the following technique, "Wonderful!" This technique has two functions: first, it makes the other person feel like a happy dad; second, it can revive the life of the conversation that is about to die .

I once worked on a cruise ship where the crew was all Italian and the passengers were all American.Every week, the ship's officers are required to attend a cocktail party hosted by the captain for the passengers. Each time, after the captain had finished his speech in his charming broken English, the crew automatically gathered together and chatted loudly in Italian.Needless to say, all passengers know about Italians is pasta, salami, and pizza. As the Cruise Director, it is my responsibility to bring these crew and passengers together. The trick I used was obvious, each time I would take a certain crew member's hand, almost dragging him, and pull him in front of a group of smiling and expectant passengers.I introduced the crew to the group and prayed that he would open his mouth, or that the passengers would ask some interesting questions. But my expectations never came true.At best, the passengers are like, "Oh my God, you're all here, so who's going to steer the ship?" So every week when I get to the cocktail party, I'm sweating and worried.

One night, while I was sleeping in the stateroom, the ship suddenly shook violently and woke me up.I listened carefully and the engine was off.I grabbed my nightgown and ran to the deck at once.In the thick fog, I could just see another boat not half a mile away.Five or six crew members were hanging on to the starboard rail, leaning outwards.I rushed over in time and saw a man in the moonlight, with a bandage on one eye, struggling to climb onto the boat while holding the violently swinging rope ladder. The crew immediately rushed him to the ship's medical center. Then the engine started up again and we were on our way.

It wasn't until the next morning that I figured out the whole ins and outs.It turned out that the other ship was a cargo ship.A worker on the ship put cobalt holes in the engine cylinders.Halfway through, a sharp iron piece as thin as a needle suddenly flew out and stuck into his eye. There were no doctors on board the cargo ship, so they sent out an emergency call. International law of the sea requires any vessel to respond to an SOS if it receives one.Our ship rushed to the rescue, and the worker was put in a lifeboat and sent to our ship.Ruoxi, our doctor on board, successfully removed the iron plate and saved his eyesight.

Soon, the captain's next cocktail party will arrive.Once again I took on the challenge of getting the crew and passengers to mingle and chat with each other. As usual, I walked into the crew circle again, grabbing random people to meet the passengers. This time, though, I reached out to our ship's doctor, who I pulled up to the nearest group of passengers for an introduction. "Last week, we rescued an injured worker from another ship in the middle of the night. It was Dr. Josie who saved him from blindness. Dr. Josie, I bet everyone would love to hear about your heroism." This time, I seem to have cast a spell.I was surprised to find that Dr. Josi's tongue seemed to be controlled by the elf.His previous monotonous broken English suddenly became extremely fluent, and he also had a charming thick foreign accent. He began to narrate the incident, and the passengers continued to surround him.I left the group of passengers, attracted by Dr. Josie, to catch another crew member.

Then, I went up and grabbed the captain's arm under his striped uniform, pulled him in front of another group of smiling passengers, and I said, "Captain Cafiero, would you like to tell everyone that you rescued a group of people at midnight last week?" What happened to the crew?" The captain immediately started talking. Then I went to grab the first crew member I saw, and I realized I had the right guy, "Mr. Savage, why don't you tell everyone how you informed the captain during the midnight rescue operation last week?"
There is no better sound in the ears of a performer than "Wonderful, wonderful, let's hear it again!" to the applause of the audience. There is no sweeter sound in your mouth than that of the person you are talking to. In front of a group of people, "Tell them about that time you..."

Every time you go to a party or a party with your significant other, think back to what stories he told you.Choose an appropriate story that you feel your audience will appreciate too. Then shine the spotlight on him and ask him to do a "great show."
I figured it was almost time.So I ran to the first group of passengers and pulled Dr. Josie to the next group of passengers. It worked better the second time around. He gleefully kicked off his "great show."While he was talking happily, I went to pull the captain to another group of people for the second round.I felt like a circus stuntman, keeping the plates spinning on thin sticks. As soon as a conversation is over, I have to run quickly to the speaker to perform in front of the next audience.

For the rest of the season, the captain's cocktail party was my happiest moment. The three protagonists are happy to tell their heroic deeds for each batch of passengers. The only thing is, the story seems to be getting longer and more plot-rich.I had to adjust the interval and wait a little longer for them to change shifts. One word of caution, though: Make sure you ask for a story that shines through the teller. No one wants to repeat over and over again how they lost their business, crashed their car, or ended up in jail for causing trouble at a bar.The great performance you're asking them to do has to make the speaker a big winner, not a wreck.

The next tip is about how to share positive stories from your life.
