Chapter 116 University Impact (excerpt)

When the tumult of partisanship threatens the security of our country, I will adopt wise conservatism in colleges and universities, and warn contenders in earnest tones against the dangers of irrevocable desertion. When popular grievances and zeal are fueled by deliberate partisanship to the point of descending into class hatred and departmental rage, I would call on our nation's universities and colleges to sound the alarm in the name of the brotherhood of our fellow Americans. When people are deliberately deceived into believing that their suffrage can alter the operation of the laws of the land, I would have our colleges and universities proclaim that those laws are immutable and far from being manipulated by politics.

When self-interested groups, with the help of the government, seek undue private advantage, when the public is declared to pay for the service of partisanship, I would like our colleges and universities to exhort people to abandon partisan fanaticism and exhort them to do justice to patriotism. Come to love your government, because the fair operation of the government ensures that every citizen can equally enjoy the safety and happiness that everyone can get. I hope that these institutions can exert influence in favor of religion and morality.I hope it produces men who are not ashamed to acknowledge the existence of God, who take an active part in the affairs of men, who are glad to obey the laws, and who are glad to show their efforts for the prosperity of the nation.
