Chapter 40 Motivate and motivate employees

Expert research believes that some people will indeed become insane and fall into crazy dreams because they do not feel valued in the harsh real world. This is why there are more and more mentally ill people in the United States. In American hospitals, the mentally ill outnumber all other patients combined. In New York, the ratio of mentally ill and normal people is 1:200.Why do people suffer from mental illness? This question is not easy to answer. However, we know that some diseases, such as syphilis, can damage brain cells and cause psychosis. In fact, about half of all mental illnesses are due to physical causes, such as brain injury, drunkenness, poisoning, and physical trauma. But the other half of the mentally ill people have no obvious problems in the brain cells and other organisms. In postmortem autopsies of these people, even the most delicate microscopes were used to examine their brain nerves, which were not different from those of normal people.

So, why do these people with normal brain tissue go crazy? I recently asked this question of a well-known doctor in a mental institution. The doctor has received the highest honors and most prestigious medals for his work in psychiatry. He told me frankly that he didn't know why some people went mad, no one knew exactly why.But he added: "Many people who suffer from mental illness can find in the madness a sense of importance that is difficult to obtain in the real world." He told me this true story: "I have a patient right now whose marriage is a tragedy. She longs for love, children, and high social status. But all her hopes are shattered by the reality of life—her husband doesn't love her, he doesn't even have a relationship with her. Tired of eating together, she had to eat alone in the upstairs room. She also had no children and no social status. In the end, she went mad. In her mental phantasy, she thought she had divorced her husband and recovered She took her maiden name. She believes she is now married to an English nobleman and insists on being called Mrs. Smith.

"As for the baby she wanted, it's in her fantasy now. Whenever I visit her, she'll say: 'Doctor, I had a baby last night.'" The cruel reality has shattered all the wonderful fantasies in this woman's life, but in a state of madness, on the side of the imaginary sunny and beautiful island, she has realized her dream, and all her ships of hope have sailed Into the harbor, even the wind and rain will not waver. Do you think this story is tragic?I do not know either. But the doctor said to me: "Even if I could easily cure her of her mental illness, I would not do that. I think she would be happier if she lived like this.

"On the whole, people who are insane are happier than you and I, and many are even more willing to play crazy for fun. Why can't they? You see, in this way, their troubles in the real world None exist. They could easily write you a million-dollar check, or write you a letter of introduction to meet a big shot. In short, in the dreams they created, they found The sense of importance you crave.” Just imagine, since people are so eager to be valued that some people have actually become crazy, what miracles will be created if a person is satisfied with the feeling of being valued before he becomes crazy?

As far as I know, there are only two people in history who have made a million dollars a year. These two people are Ward Chrysler and Querry Schwab. Why pay Schwab an annual salary of $1 million, which is more than $3,000 a day? Was Schwab a genius?no!Or is his knowledge of steel more profound than others?Nor is it.Schwab himself told me that he had many people who were better at it than he was.Schwab said he was able to get such a high salary, mainly because of his excellent people and management skills.I asked him how he did it, and he spoke his own secrets— words that I think should be inscribed on bronze plaques that hang in every home, school, store, and office across the country; words that every child should have Memorized, it will make a lot more sense than wasting their time reciting Latin verb conjugations or the annual rainfall in Brazil. If we can really act on these words, radical changes are bound to take place.

Schwab said: "I think the greatest capital I have is the ability to inspire and motivate employees. This ability is a wealth that cannot be measured by money. And the way to give full play to a person's talent is to appreciate and encourage. In this world, criticism is the easiest way to kill a person's initiative. I never criticize anyone. When I want others to work hard, my first choice is to motivate, not to blame. I am more willing to praise than to blame. Loves to be critical. When I'm satisfied with someone else's work, I don't know what to say other than praise from the bottom of my heart."

That's what Schwab does. But how do ordinary people do it?Their approach is the exact opposite of Schwab's. If they are dissatisfied with someone else's work, they will find fault with it; if they are satisfied, they will not give a word of praise. "I have often dealt with famous people in the world," said Schwab, "and I have found that there is no man, no matter how great or how high he is, who does not want to be admired." In fact, one of the important reasons why I have created amazing achievements is that I will not be stingy in encouraging and motivating others at any time.
