Chapter 32 Search for meaningful topics from the context of your own life

Open your long-term memory, and search for those meaningful things in your life that leave a vivid impression on you from your own life background. I have been asked by students what is the hardest problem for beginning speakers to solve. My answer is, "Teaching beginners to give speeches on appropriate topics" is the most common question encountered in the early stages of this course. What is an appropriate topic? If it's a part of your life, something you've learned through your own experiences and experiences, then you can be sure this topic is for you.The next question is, how to find such a topic?

Open your long-term memory, and search for those meaningful things in your life that leave a vivid impression on you from your own life background. We have conducted research on the topics that can attract the attention of the audience, and found that the topics most appreciated by the audience are related to certain personal backgrounds: Subjects related to family, childhood memories, and school life are sure to gain attention.Because we are most interested in how other people face difficult experiences in the process of growing up. Whenever possible, I wove stories of my own early years into my speech. There are many well-known plays, films and stories about the challenges of people's early life, which can prove that the subject matter about the process of growing up is valuable, and of course it can be suitable for speaking. How to determine whether others will be interested in what happened when you were a child? Here's a simple one: as long as years later, if something is still vividly imprinted on your mind, it is almost guaranteed to interest your audience.

It was a deeply human experience. For example, reminiscing about one's early efforts to achieve success is sure to grab the audience's attention.Tell us how you got into a particular job or industry, what kind of opportunities created your career; tell us, in this competitive world, the setbacks you encountered when starting a business, your hopes and your hopes success.Truly describe a person's life, at least it is the safest subject to attract the audience. The topic in this respect depends on the taste of each person, so it is also a subject that can attract attention. If you talk about something that you do entirely because you like it, it is generally impossible to make mistakes. If you have a genuine passion for a particular hobby, it will allow you to bring the subject to life and interest.

After working in the same field for many years, you have become an expert in the field. If you use years of experience or research to discuss matters related to your work or career, you can also guarantee the attention and respect of your audience. Have you ever met a celebrity?Have you experienced the baptism of artillery fire in war?Have you ever experienced a crisis of spiritual depression? These experiences can be the best speech material. Perhaps you have spent a lot of time and effort thinking about your own attitude to the major situations facing the world today.Well, you are naturally well qualified to talk about them.Just be sure to give an example when doing so.Audiences don't like to hear banal and stale lectures.Don't think that you can talk about these topics just by reading some newspapers and magazines at will.If you don't know much more than your listeners, it's better to avoid it.But on the other hand, since you have spent many years studying it, there is no doubt that this is a topic that you are destined to talk about, and you must definitely use it.
