Chapter 16 The housewife's recipe for eternal youth

Speaking out what is in your heart is equivalent to giving your "heart disease" a shot in the arm. Last fall, my assistant flew to Boston to take one of the most extraordinary medical classes in the world. Is it a medical course?good. The class is held on a weekly basis and participants undergo regular and thorough medical checks prior to admission. But in fact this course is a kind of clinical experiment in psychology. Although its official name is Applied Psychology (formerly known as Thought Control Course), its real purpose is to treat people who are sick from worry, and most patients are Mentally troubled housewife.

How did this class for anxiety sufferers get started? In 1930, Dr. Joseph Prett (who was a student of Sir William Osler) noticed that many patients who came to Boston Hospital for treatment were not physically sick at all, but they were psychologically sick. Always think that I have some kind of disease. For example, there is a woman who cannot move her hands at all because of "arthritis"; another woman is in great pain because of "stomach cancer".Others have back pain, headaches, tiredness or aches all year round. In fact, they can really feel the pain, but even the most thorough medical examination still can't find any physical diseases in these women.

Many seasoned old doctors believed that it was purely psychological—that is, "the disease was in her head." But Dr. Prett understands that simply telling patients to "go home and forget about it" won't do any good.Of course he knew that most women didn't want to be sick, and if their pain could be forgotten so easily, they would probably have done so long ago.So, how to treat this disease? Talking about what's on your mind is the main therapeutic method in the courses arranged by Boston Hospital. Here are some of the concepts we were given in that class. In fact, we can do these things at home.

1. Prepare a "supply inspiration" scrapbook, on which you can paste poems or famous sayings that you like or can lift your spirits. If you feel depressed, you may be able to find a cure by opening this book. Many patients at Boston Hospital keep this scrapbook for years, saying it's "a shot" in your psyche. Second, don't worry too much about other people's shortcomings. Yes, your husband has many flaws, but if he were a saint, he probably wouldn't have married you at all, would he?There was a woman in that class who found herself becoming a demanding, critical, and often elongated woman. She only discovered her shortcoming when someone asked her the question "what would you do if your husband died".She was really taken aback at the time, sat down quickly, and enumerated in detail all the good things about her husband. The list she wrote was really long. So, the next time you feel like you've married the wrong person, why not try doing the same?Maybe after you sum up all his advantages, you may find that he is the one you are looking forward to marrying.

3. Take a friendly and healthy interest in your neighbors and those who live on the street with you. There was a woman who was lonely, and she felt very "isolated".She doesn't have any friends.Someone suggested that she try to make up a story for herself, using the next person she would meet as the main character in the story. So she started making up stories about the people she saw on the bus.She imagined the background and life of the person she met, trying to imagine his life situation.Later, she took the initiative to chat with people as soon as she met them, and now she is living a very happy life and has become a lovable person, and her "pain" has also been cured.

4. Arrange tomorrow's work routine before going to bed every night. Many of the housewives in this class are feeling burnt out with endless chores.Their work seems to never be finished, and they are always chased by time.To cure this feeling of rush and anxiety, these housewives are advised to plan the next day's work the night before. What was the result? They can get a lot done without feeling the same fatigue they used to; at the same time they take great pride in what they've accomplished and even have time to rest and "groom" (actually every woman should find time to groom herself every day. , make yourself look good. I think when a woman knows she looks good, she's less emotionally tense).

5. Relaxation is the only way to avoid tension and fatigue. Nothing ages you and is more detrimental to your appearance than stress and fatigue. My assistant sat for an hour in that course at the Boston Hospital, listening to the director, Professor Paul Jonsson, talk about many of the principles we had discussed in the previous chapter—the way to relax. At the end of the 10-minute self-relaxation session, my assistant nearly fell asleep sitting in a chair, having done these exercises with others. Why does physical relaxation have such a big effect?Because this hospital knows that relaxation is all you have to do to beat fatigue.

Yes, as a housewife, you must know how to relax yourself. You have one advantage over others, that is, you can lie down whenever you want, and you can also lie on the ground.Strangely, that hard floor helps you unwind more than a Simmons bed with springs inside. That's because the floor gives you more resistance, which is good for the spine. Here are some exercises you can do in your own home.Try it for a week and see how it benefits your appearance: 1. As long as you feel tired, lie flat on the floor and try to straighten your body. You can turn around as much as you want.Do this twice a day.

2. Close your eyes and say to yourself as Professor Jonson advises: "The sun is shining brightly, the sky is a brilliant blue, nature is very silent and rules the world - and I am a child of nature, It can also be in harmony with the entire universe.” 3. If you cannot lie down because you are cooking by the stove and have no time, the effect will be the same if you can sit in a chair. In a straight-backed chair, place your palms down and flat on your thighs like an ancient Egyptian statue. 4. Now, slowly curl up your ten toes and let them relax - Tighten your leg muscles and let them relax.Slowly work each part of the muscle from the bottom up, all the way to your neck. Then turn your head around, as if your head were a football, and keep saying to your muscles, "Relax... relax..."

5. Use slow and steady deep breaths to calm your nerves, inhaling from the Dantian.Indian yoga is well done, and regular breathing is the best way to soothe your nerves. 6. Think about the wrinkles on your face and try to smooth them out; loosen your frown and keep your mouth shut.If you insist on doing it twice a day, maybe you don't have to go to the beauty parlor for massage, and these wrinkles will stay away from you.
