Chapter 334 Chapter Three Hundred and Thirty-Three

Yuan Wenzong, also known as Emperor Zha Yadu, named Tu Tie Muer, was the second son of Wu Zong, younger brother of Ming Zong, and his mother Wen Zhaosheng Empress Tang Wu.Born in the eighth year of Dade in Yuan Dynasty (1304 A.D.) and died in the third year of Zhishun (1332).29 years old. Tutemur spent his childhood during the reign of his father Haishan and his uncle Ayur Libal Bada.In his spare time, he recited Chinese classics and made rapid progress. But when his uncle died, bad luck came to him. When Yingzong came to the throne, he was afraid of his cousin Tutiemuer and ordered him to live in Hainan. After Emperor Taiding came to power, thinking of his brotherhood, he recalled Tutiemuer to the capital in 1324 and named him King Huai. Not long after, Emperor Taiding was worried about the young and energetic Tutiemuer, fearing that something might happen, so he ordered him to move to Jiankang (now Nanjing). In March 1328, Emperor Taiding was critically ill. Seeing that the situation was not good, Tutiemuer was hurriedly moved to Jiangling (now Jiangling County, Hubei Province) to prevent him from fighting for the throne.

In July of the first year of Zhihe (AD 1328), Emperor Taiding died of illness in Shangdu (now Zhenglan Banner, Inner Mongolia). Zhongshu Prime Minister Dao Lasha joined forces with the Mongolian clan kings to make Emperor Taiding's son enthroned in Shangdu.Yan Tiemuer, a member of the Privy Council who stayed in Dadu (today's Beijing), conspired with Xi'an King Alatena Shili to support Wuzong's son to ascend the throne, which opened the prelude to the battle for the throne between the two capitals. In the early morning of August 4th, Yan Tiemu'er led 17 personal guards to launch a palace coup.He tied up Ubdula and Boyanchaer, and hurriedly greeted Tutemur.Yan Tiemu'er, Alathina Shili and others closed the treasury, temporarily appointed a group of officials, and dispatched troops to guard the various passes leading to the capital, and made all preparations before the war.At the end of August, Tutemur and his party arrived in the capital smoothly. At this time, the army of Shangdu had begun to press the defense line of Dadu, and the civil war broke out.

At the beginning of September, Yan Tiemu'er led the kings and ministers to persuade Tutiemu'er to ascend to the throne as soon as possible in order to stabilize the world.Tuthemuer believes that in this battle for the throne, as long as the elder brother and Shi Wangshu can be stabilized, they will surely win by virtue of their possession of the Central Plains and Jiangnan regions, as well as their strong economic and military strength.Tutiemuer first rewarded the kings and ministers heavily and gained widespread support. Then he executed and exiled Dao Lasha's party in prison, so as to relieve the worries of the future. On September 13th, Tutiemuer announced his ascension to the throne in the Daming Hall.

Dao Shasha heard about the incident in Dadu, and hurriedly conspired with Prime Minister Tashi Tiemu'er, Tuotuo, and Wang Chan to support Taiding Emperor's youngest son Alajiba as emperor and change Yuan Tianshun. In this way, the two emperors of Shangdu and Dadu stood side by side, and the Mongolian emperors and ministers each supported an emperor, and the battle for the throne reached a climax.Daangshasha then sent troops to approach Juyongguan, making the capital beset by enemies on both sides. At the beginning of October, Dao Lasha's army was defeated by Tutemur, and Dao Lasha, Wang Chan and others were executed. The battle for the throne between the two capitals, which lasted for more than two months, ended with the victory of Tutemur.

When Tutiemuer ascended the throne, the great enemy was in front of him. In order to win the support of his elder brother and Shi Wangshu, who were in Mobei and had a large army, to restrain and deter the Shangdu army, he did not monopolize the emperor's throne, expressing that he would wait for peace with the world. Wang Shunan returned to the capital and made way for him. In November of the first year of the Tianli calendar (AD 1328), Tutiemuer sent envoys to the north to He Shi Wang Shu's residence, and invited He Shi Wang Shu to leave for the south and ascend the throne in the capital. In December, Tutiemuer sent Zhishu Shishi Sadi and others to inform He Shiwang Shu that he himself had abdicated, and urged He Shi Wangshu to ascend the throne as soon as possible. He Shiwang Shu believed his brother's persuasion to be true, so in the first month of the following year, he became the emperor north of Helin (now Harhelin, Mongolian People's Republic), and was called Mingzong. On February 21st, Sadi returned to Dadu to report that He Shiwangshu had already ascended the throne. In March, Yan Tiemu'er took the emperor's seal to the north to meet him, and secretly observed He Shiwangshu's movements. After Mingzong received the emperor's seal, he was very happy, and made Yan Tiemu'er the grand master, and still appointed him as the right prime minister of Zhongshu.Immediately, he sent envoys to Dadu and canonized Tutiemuer as the crown prince. At the same time, Mingzong promoted many trusted ministers to various levels of government offices.Seeing that He Shiwangshu was serious about becoming emperor, Tutiemuer and Yan Tiemuer stepped up their steps to seize the throne with deep fear.In May, Tutiemuer set off from Dadu to meet Mingzong in person. On August 2, the two brothers met in Wanghuchadu (now north of Zhangbei, Hebei).Mingzong was very happy, and specially hosted a banquet in the bank account to entertain the crown prince, kings and ministers. The abdicated Tutiemu'er conspired with Yan Tiemu'er to poison Mingzong to death. On August 15th, Tutiemuer announced in Shangdu that he was re-elected as Wenzong.

Wen Zongtu Tiemu'er knew in his heart that without Yan Tiemu'er's support, he would never have imagined ascending to the throne. After Wenzong came to the throne, in order to express his gratitude, he was appointed Prime Minister of Zhongshu You, and he was granted the title of King Taiping with a heavy reward. After Wen Zong killed his brother and restored them, the relationship between the two became even closer. Wen Zong added the title of Yan Tie Mu'er Taishi, and granted him three generations, and set up a stele to record meritorious deeds.Yan Tiemuer's value doubled. In February of the first year of Zhishun (AD 1330), Wen Zong changed Zhongshu Prime Minister Zuo Boyan to be a member of the Privy Council, and ordered that the post of Prime Minister Zuo should no longer be established in the court, and Yan Tiemu'er should be the only prime minister. In May, another decree was issued, granting Yan Tiemu'er 11 titles, including Kaifu Yitong Sansi, Shangzhu Kingdom, Taishi, Taiping King, Dalahan, Zhongshu Youcheng Prime Minister, Recording Military and State Important Affairs, and Supervising National History. Titles, political, economic, military, legal and other major affairs of the country are all subject to Yan Tiemu'er's decision.

In August of the third year of Zhishun, 29-year-old Wen Zongtu Tiemuer died, and he had been in power for less than five years. The temple name is "Wenzong" and the posthumous title is "Emperor Shengming Yuanxiao".After him, the 7-year-old Yuan Ningzong died within two months of his reign. The throne fell into the hands of Tuohuan Tiemuer, the eldest son of Emperor Mingzong, and the rule of the Yuan Dynasty was increasingly on the verge of collapse. In June 1340, it was revealed that Wenzong had committed the crime of murdering his brother and usurping the throne. Emperor Yuanshun issued an edict to remove his temple master, cut off the title of the queen, and moved to Dong'an Prefecture (now west of Anci County, Hebei) , Prince Yan Tie Gusi exiled Korea.
