Chapter 241 Chapter 240 Zhongyi Wang Qian Hongchu

Qian Hongchu, also known as Chu, styled Wende, is the ninth son of Qian Yuanjin, younger brother of Qian Hongzuo, and mother Wu.Born in the fourth year of Tiancheng (AD 929) in the Later Tang Dynasty, and died in the first year of Duangong in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 988).60 years old. Qian Hongchu was the last king of Wuyue Kingdom. At the end of the fourth year of Kaiyun (947 A.D.), the power minister Hu Jinsi led an army to force Hongchu to abdicate and support Hongchu as king. After Hongchu succeeded to the throne, he reduced or exempted taxes, rectified internal affairs, and stabilized the domestic situation. He still paid tribute to the Later Zhou Dynasty in the Central Plains. After the Zhou Dynasty in the Northern Song Dynasty, Hongchu served him more carefully and did not dare to neglect, and sent his eldest son to pay tribute many times.

After Song Taizu came to the throne, he was called to Kaifeng. Although he was still favored on the surface, he already felt that he had to give up the territory of Wuyue Kingdom. In May of the third year of Taiping Xingguo (AD 978), Qian Hongchu donated his land, and the Northern Song Dynasty set up a dummy Huaihai Kingdom in Yangzhou and made him king, but actually kept him in Kaifeng.Wuyue Kingdom ended here. Although he is no longer the king of Wuyue, Qian Hongchu's life is not easy. The king who descended from the country was dependent on others, so he had to be cautious and restrain himself, and live carefully.Every morning, he must arrive at the palace gate early to wait. One morning, there was a heavy storm, and none of the envoys or the king came to the court. Only Qian Hongchu and his son were in the hall. Even Song Taizu said pityingly: "You are already middle-aged, and you should avoid the wind and cold. From now on, I will come to see you. It doesn’t have to be too early.” It was this kind of prudence that allowed him to spend the rest of his life in peace. He died of illness on August 24, the first year of Duangong.Posthumously named "King Zhongyi", he was buried in Taogongyuan on the outskirts of Luoyang.
