Chapter 237 Chapter 236 Wusu King Qian Liu

Qian Liu, the founder of Wuyue Kingdom, was born in Lin'an, Hangzhou (now part of Zhejiang).Born in the sixth year of Tang Dazhong (AD 852), and died in the third year of Tang Changxing (AD 932).81 years old. On February 16, the sixth year of Tang Dazhong, Qian Liu was born in Linshuili, his hometown Lin'an (now Hangzhou, Zhejiang). When he was born, his father, Qian Kuan, was in another place, and neighbors came to tell him that there were soldiers and horses neighing in his house, causing chaos.Qian Kuan thought it was an ominous omen, and after rushing home, he picked him up and was about to throw him into the well, but was stopped by his grandmother bitterly.

After Qian Liu became an adult, he was a rascal and a rascal. He never worried about farming, but used guns and lances to sell private salt.At this time, it was the era of Emperor Xizong of Tang Dynasty, the government was corrupt, the people were in dire straits, and there were turmoil everywhere. When he was 24 years old, he was recruited by Dong Chang, the general of Shijing (now southeast of Lin'an, Zhejiang Province) as a village soldier, and later served as a partial general, participating in suppressing the surrounding peasant uprisings. After Huang Chao's army invaded Chang'an, the world was in chaos.Dong Chang was recommended by Gao Pian, the Jiedu envoy of Huainan, as the governor of Hangzhou, and Qian Liu was also promoted to be the military envoy of the capital of Hangzhou.

In February of the second year of Jingfu (893 A.D.), Dong Chang saw that the Tang court was unable to control the situation, and the vassals and towns in various places were openly separated. Under the bewitching of the left and right, he proclaimed himself emperor and the country name was Dayue. But he didn't see that at that time, the Tang Dynasty still existed, and the various feudal towns controlled each other, and no one dared to proclaim himself emperor rashly. A third-rate feudal town like him, which was still insufficiently self-reliant, would definitely be overthrown here. Qian Liu was very happy when he heard the news that Dong Chang had proclaimed himself emperor, thinking that sending troops to Yuezhou at this time was considered a famous division. He advised Dong Chang, "Instead of closing the door and being the emperor, how about opening the door and being a military envoy", with the intention of persuading him to surrender.Dong Chang ignored him, Qian Liu reported Dong Chang's rebellion to the Tang court, and led his troops to advance to the city of Yuezhou. The city was besieged until May of the following year. The book Dong Chang "ordered the king to become an official and return to Lin'an by imperial edict".Thinking it was true, Dong Changxin left Yacheng, handed over the seal, and waited for Qian Liu to send him back to his hometown of Lin'an, but the next day, he was captured and beheaded by Qian Liu's general Gu Quanwu. After Pingyue Prefecture, Qian Liu owned the eastern and western Zhejiang, and established the basic territory of Wuyue Kingdom.

In the fourth year of Tianyou (907 A.D.), Zhu Quanzhong proclaimed himself emperor on behalf of the Tang Dynasty and established the Liang Dynasty. In the first year of Tongguang (923 A.D.), Li Cunxu, the king of Jin, proclaimed himself emperor and destroyed Liang. Qian Liu also hurriedly sent envoys to send the imperial jade seal of the Tang Dynasty, claiming that "this is not suitable for a minister's family to store."The Later Tang Dynasty still named him King of Wuyue.Liang and Tang's intentions were naturally to use him to contain Wu (Southern Tang), which was between him and the Central Plains Dynasty, and he did play this role.

Although there was a war against Wu, most of them were limited in scale. Therefore, Wuyue was relatively stable in the country at that time. Qian Liu was also conscientious in domestic governance, focusing on the development of agricultural production, making Qian the most longevity among the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms. A long-standing monarch with the same surname. Qian Liu ruled the two Zhejiang provinces for 38 years. At the beginning of the third year of Changxing, Qian Liu became seriously ill and died in March. At the end of his life, he entrusted: "The children and grandchildren do good things to China (the Central Plains Dynasty), and don't use the surname to change the big ceremony." It is to ask the children and grandchildren not to give up the inherent relationship because of the change of the Central Plains dynasty. This legacy was followed by his descendants.

Qian Miao was buried in Maoshan, Yijin Township, Anguo County (now Lin'an, Zhejiang Province), and was posthumously named "King of Wusu".
