Although Yu Wenhu supported her to come to power, she is unwilling to be a puppet and is eager to govern herself.Seeing that he was smart and capable, Yu Wenhu made it easy for him to return to power in the first month of the second year (559 A.D.). After Yu Wenyu came to power, he paid attention to frugality, did not use silk and brocade carvings, strictly prohibited corruption by officials, and worked hard to govern officials in a clear and bright manner. He attached great importance to the development of culture, specially summoned more than 80 literati to publish classics and history in Linzhi Temple, and collected many books to compile 500 volumes of "Chengpu", which contributed to the development of academic culture at that time.He was tolerant, the relationship between the monarch and his ministers was relatively harmonious, and he repelled the invasion of Tuyuhun, so his prestige grew day by day.In August of the same year when he came to power, Yu Wenyu officially proclaimed himself emperor, with the title of Wucheng.

Seeing the growing authority of the young emperor, Yu Wenhu felt that it was not good for him, so in April of the second year of Wucheng (560 AD), he ordered his confidant Li An, a doctor in the food department who was in charge of the imperial food, to put poison in the sugar cake. After eating, Yu Wenyu became dizzy, vomited and had diarrhea, and had bleeding from the nose and mouth. Although he was diagnosed and treated by the imperial doctor, he still didn't get better.Knowing that he had been tricked, he dictated a will shortly after his death, expressing his deep regret for the failure to achieve reunification. He also said: "My son is too young to be in power. My younger brother Lu Gongyu Wenyong is known for his generosity and benevolence. It must be him who can make our Zhou Dynasty develop and become stronger! I hope that all ministers will help him govern the country from the beginning to the end. !"
