Chapter 3 The third chapter is the legend of the descendants of Han Xiandi in Japan

The story of Xu Fu's journey to Fusang (today's Japan) is well-known in China and Japan, but it is cloudy and confusing, and there is no sufficient historical evidence to prove it.However, more than four hundred years later, the story of the second Xu Fu, Liu Azhi, who went to Japan to escape the war, actually happened. Things have to start from the Three Kingdoms era that everyone is familiar with.It is said that in 220 A.D., Cao Pi, the son of Cao Cao, established himself on behalf of the Han Dynasty, and the Wei Kingdom of the Three Kingdoms was born. The original nominal emperor Han Xiandi Liu Xie was named Shanyang Gong, and his family moved from Xuchang to Shanyang (now Jiaozuo, Henan) to live. .The descendants of Emperor Xiandi Liu Xie of the Han Dynasty are mainly divided into two branches. One branch stayed behind in Shanyang and continues to this day. Now there is a street called Liuxiang by the locals in Qiangnan Village in the old city of Shanyang; the other branch chose to ride the wind and waves for thousands of miles migration path.

According to the Japanese history books "Nihon Shu", "Ancient Saying Supplements", and "Continued Japanese Chronicle", during the period of the fourth Sanyang Gong Liu Qiu and his contemporary Liu Azhi (they were both great-great-grandsons of Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty), the people who were in power were Ji The Western Jin Dynasty that usurped Wei and established itself. One day, the far-sighted Liu Azhi said to his old minister: "I have been here for a long time, and I am afraid of being destroyed. I heard that the country of Wa (that is, Japan) is relatively stable, so I decided to lead my family to the east."

On the first day of May in 289 A.D., Liu Azhi led his son Liu Duhe, his uncle Zhao Xingde, and his clansmen Liu Guoding, Liu Taozi, Liu Heming, Liu Xinzi and other men and women, a total of 2040 men and women. Ferry, the history of China and Japan has jointly opened a new page here. Liu Azhi, Xu Fu's second son, led his relatives and clansmen along the journey, went through hardships and escaped death. After more than four months, they finally arrived in Japan on the fifth day of September. In Japan, this year is the 20th year of Emperor Oishin. After settling in Japan, the tribe headed by Liu Azhi was called "Dulairen". They were a group of "senior intellectuals" who had mastered the advanced technology and culture of the Han nationality, and were mainly engaged in writing work and craft manufacturing.Although they were foreigners, the Han Dynasty had a very high status in the minds of the Japanese at that time, and they brought China's advanced production technology and cultural knowledge, which promoted the development of Japanese civilization. A new nobleman with a high status in the middle class.Liu Azhi was given the surname of the envoy of the Eastern Han Dynasty by the emperor, and settled in Hinoki Village, Gaoshi County (now Hinoki Village, Nara Prefecture, Japan). His eldest son, Liu Duhe, was later given the surname Zhi by the Emperor.

Japanese historian Taro Sakamoto’s book "An Introduction to Japanese History" commented on the "Dorai people" from mainland China: The Han culture introduced by the Liu Azhi family and their descendants to Japan has greatly improved both spiritually and materially. Japanese culture with epoch-making influence. In terms of spiritual culture, the introduction of Chinese characters, Chinese books, Confucianism and Buddhism determined the nature of Japanese culture. In terms of material culture, agricultural technologies such as water conservancy, irrigation, and sericulture, and various craft technologies and products such as architecture, sculpture, weaving, metallurgy, and pottery, have all made great contributions to the improvement of local people's living standards.

Liu Azhi's son, Liu Duhe, introduced the textile technology from China at that time to Japan, so he was called King Duhe.On the eighth day of April in the 60th year of Emperor Nintoku (372), the descendants of Liu Azhi were given the surname Sakagami, and on the first day of October in the 16th year of Emperor Yuraku (471), some of the descendants of Liu Azhi were given the surname Dazang. In addition, the Nei Zang family is also a descendant of Liu Azhi. In the Sakagami family, there was "General Sakaue Tamura Maro", who was mainly in charge of the military affairs of the court at that time, and his descendants had surnames such as Sakagami and Tanba. The Dazang family was in charge of the imperial court's finances and became the source of the name of the Ministry of Finance of Japan (now the Ministry of Finance). The descendants have the surnames of Harada, Akizuki, Takahashi, Hatae, Egami and so on.Among them, the Yuantian, Qiuyue, and Takahashi families were once the city lords (equivalent to the small princes in ancient China). The Neizang family was responsible for the internal affairs of the imperial court and became the source of the name of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The well-known Tamba family in Japan has controlled the Japanese royal medical institutions for thousands of years, and has become the big family monopolizing the highest status in Japanese medicine, and is still admired by future generations.Among them, Danbo Yuanjian once clearly declared in the preface of a book that he was a descendant of Liu Xie, Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty, and his Chinese name was Liu Rongting.

In the era of Emperor Suzaku of Japan (930-946), the descendant of Liu Azhi and the 45th generation Sun Dazang Harumi of Han Gaozu Liu Bang served as General Zhengxi, and made great contributions to the suppression of the "Tianqing Rebellion" that occurred in Japan at that time , and on the third day of May in the third year of Tianqing (940), he received a huge award and reward from the emperor, and was rewarded with a brocade imperial flag, royal coat of arms, and military equipment. At this time, this descendant of the Liu royal family "has great grace and great power".Since Dazang Haruki, the Dazang family has been holding important positions such as long gatekeeper and Dazai Dajian.

After Dazang Harumi was named the general who conquered the West due to his meritorious service, he once built a city in Harada, Kyushu, Japan. In the first year of Tiancheng in Japan (1131), the descendants of the Liu family who had been living in Harada officially took Harada as their surname, and then gradually formed the famous surname in today's Japanese society - Harada.Today, the Harada family has passed down to Liu Bang's 93rd generation. This branch of the Japanese Harada family, which originated from the Chinese surname Liu, established the Han Taigong Temple in Fukuoka City, Kyushu Island. They still keep the genealogy handed down from generation to generation, indicating that they are descendants of Liu Bang, and according to traditional etiquette, they go to the Taigong Temple to make regular sacrifices to Liu Bang and other distant ancestors surnamed Liu.

The Harada family is very respected in Japan, and they never forget their ancestors. In 1988, they made a special trip from Japan to China to offer sacrifices to the mausoleums of their ancestors Liu Bang and Liu Che.
