Chapter 10 5. Who will succeed Li Siyuan

Li Siyuan knew that he was not made to be an emperor, but he managed well during his reign. After Li Siyuan's death, can the situation that the Central Plains has just moved towards a well-off life continue? Li Siyuan is undoubtedly a good general, brave and good at fighting, but he is low-key and kind, but he is really a layman in the profession of being an emperor. The same is true for Li Cunxu, Emperor Zhuangzong of the Later Tang Dynasty. He is a very talented general, but unfortunately he will not be an emperor.Li Siyuan is slightly better than Li Cunxu in that Li Siyuan is more self-aware.Li Cunxu has lofty aspirations and strives wholeheartedly to be the emperor. And Li Siyuan knew from the very beginning that he was not made to be an emperor.

Li Siyuan always remembers bitterness and sweetness, and never forgets that he was born as a barbarian, joined the army as a small school, and was reused by Li Keyong and Li Cunxu to achieve the position of general manager of the world's soldiers and horses, and become the boss of the military. This is enough. As for being emperor, it was purely forced. He often shook his head, sighing to himself that he didn't know poems, books, and allusions. How could he be an emperor? Li Siyuan has a simple side and a kind heart, he doesn't cause trouble, and he doesn't like to mess around with things he doesn't understand. The prince Li Congrong is extroverted and sharp-edged. He not only controls the military power, but also likes to dance and write.Li Siyuan, emperor of the Ming Dynasty, once called Li Congrong to him, and said earnestly, "My son, our family is all from military background. It's okay to play fists, kicks, bows and horses. Writing poems and prose is not our specialty. Don't join in the fun. So as not to make the world laugh."

In his attitude towards the common people, Li Siyuan has the same feeling of the same origin. He comes from the bottom of society, understands the suffering of the people, and sympathizes with the people. In September 929 A.D., Emperor Mingzong of the later Tang Dynasty chatted with Feng Dao, saying that the two years had a good harvest and peace everywhere.Feng Dao said: "I often remember one thing. It was when I was in the former emperor's shogunate in the early years. I was ordered to go to Zhongshan. I passed the famous Jingxing Mountain Road. The road was rough and dangerous. I was worried that the horse would stumble and throw me off. , so I kept holding the rein carefully. Fortunately, there were no mistakes along the way. When I reached the flat road, I thought it should be much easier to walk, so I let go of the rein and let the horse run on its own. But it didn’t take long. He was thrown off his horse and hurt himself. From this incident, I learned a truth, be careful in difficult times, and be vigilant in a peaceful world. The same should be true for governing the world.”

Li Siyuan was fascinated by what he heard, and nodded deeply in agreement. Then he asked again: "This year's harvest is bumper, so the common people should not worry about food and clothing, right?" Feng Dao replied: "Peasants often starve to death in famine years. If there is a bumper harvest, the price of grain will drop, and the price of grain will hurt farmers. No matter whether there is good or bad, the common people will be very difficult." Li Siyuan let out a slightly surprised "Oh". Feng Dao continued: "I remember that a Jinshi named Nie Yizhong wrote a poem. The poem reads, 'New silk is sold in February, and new valleys are sold in May; the sores on the eyes are healed, and the heart is plucked out'." Although the words are common, they clearly describe the hard life of the peasants."

Li Siyuan laughed when he heard it, and said: "You are right. You are reminding me to cherish the power of the people. Someone here writes down this poem and hangs it on the wall of my bedroom. I must always be vigilant." Li Siyuan's common people's thinking greatly influenced his concept of governing the country during his reign, and he tried his best to stop the military and stop the army to give the common people space to recuperate.Over the past few years, the national power and people's power of the Central Plains have been greatly restored, and food and clothing can basically be solved.

After all, Li Siyuan was not an outstanding politician. He basically knows nothing about state building and political governance. He is really a simple emperor, giving orders with the most primitive and simple feeling. The only thing he can rely on is Chief Prime Minister An Chonghui. Although An Chonghui is brave to take on things, is decisive, dedicated to the public, and good at managing principles, but he is too hasty, self-willed, lacks the capacity to tolerate others, and relying on the deep relationship with Li Siyuan for 30 years, he wants to talk about any important matter Forget it, dare to do anything big.In the end, it angered the political forces of various factions in the court, especially Li Siyuan, and his death and reputation were ruined, which is a pity.

When An Chonghui was alive, the political order of the Later Tang court was fairly orderly, especially when it came to major events. With Ren Yuan, Li Qi and the only few more capable prime ministers leaving the stage, especially after the death of An Zhonghui, most of the important positions above the court are guys who eat all day long, opportunistic, and do not know the present and the past. Slack, big policies pale and weak. Li Siyuan himself also grew older, his aggressiveness and vigilance gradually faded, and a group of flattering villains around him bombarded him day and night.None of the ministers has the guts and status of An Zhonggui to persuade Li Siyuan of his mistakes.Li Siyuan's later state governance began to decline.

One person who needs to be explained here is the famous Feng Dao in history. This man is known as the "official tumbler". He has mixed praise and criticism, and has been controversial for thousands of years. At this time, Feng Daoguan Juzuo Pushe and Pingzhang Shi began to appear frequently in high-level political events. Li Siyuan also has the same weakness as other reckless overlords, that is, he does not pay attention to cultivating the next generation. There are quite a few sons, but almost none of them are successful. This is not just a personal and family issue for Li Siyuan, but is directly related to the future destiny of the empire.

Zhu Quanzhong, Wang Jian, Yang Xingmi, Ma Yin, Liu Rengong, and Liu Yan all fell on it. Li Siyuan had an adopted son named Li Congke, who followed Li Siyuan in military expeditions since he was a child. He had a military career and made outstanding military exploits. He was very popular with Zhuangzong Li Cunxu and Mingzong Li Siyuan. After Li Siyuan became emperor, he was granted the title of Li Congke Hezhong Jiedushi. However, An Zhonghui and Li Congke had a personal grievance, and An Zhonghui tried every means to contain Li Congke, and even wanted to kill Li Congke.Li Siyuan had no choice but to dismiss Li Congke from his post and let him go home and find a job.Li Congke didn't come back until after An Chonghui's death, and his official rank was Taiwei, Fengxiang Jiedushi, and Lu Wang.Li Congke is a real powerful faction, but his status is not orthodox.

Li Siyuan's eldest son, Li Congshen, served alongside Emperor Zhuangzong Li Cunxu. This kid is brave in battle, but stubborn and honest.Li Siyuan failed to fight against the rebellion in Weizhou and was forced to return to Bianliang.Li Cunxu personally conquered Li Siyuan.Li Cunxu sent Li Congshen to talk about surrendering Li Siyuan. But on the way, Li Congshen was killed by Yuan Xingqin. Li Congrong, the second son of Li Siyuan, was an official to Yin of Henan, the general of the world's soldiers and horses, and the king of Qin.This kid is in his twenties, young and imposing. He is not afraid of anyone except that An Chong will hurt Uncle An.After An Zhonghui's death, Li Congrong became even more domineering and defiant, which frightened the ministers so that no one dared to be his master.Li Congrong's government office was located in Luoyang, the capital city. Every time he went to work, he had to bring hundreds of warriors with him, shooting bows and arrows along the way, rampaging, people shouting and horses shouting, showing off their might.Li Congrong also likes to write poems. He thinks he is the best in the world, and his output is extremely high. He wrote a thousand poems, which were edited and published as a large volume "Zi Fu Ji".Li Congrong used various methods to make himself look like a celebrity and capable person with successors. He appeared in the third-rate tabloids every day and appeared in the court news every month.

Li Siyuan's third son, Li Conghou, served as the Jiedu envoy of Hedong, stayed behind in Beidu, Zhongshuling, and king of Song. However, Li Conghou did not go to Taiyuan, but actually worked in Weizhou, the capital of Ye.Li Conghou's character is a little cowardly, more cautious and low-key, good at compromise, especially when he treats Zhang Yang's elder brother Li Congrong respectfully and flatteringly, avoiding offending him and getting into trouble. Li Congcan, the fourth son of Li Siyuan, has a straightforward and forthright personality. He likes to make friends and donate money. He is a social figure who can enjoy himself in the social arena. In the second year of Li Siyuan's ascension to the throne, he toured Bianliang, Kaifeng, and left Li Congcan as the envoy of the imperial city, responsible for the security work in the palace. But this young man babbled and found some people to drink in the imperial garden, and after getting drunk, he staggered and went to sleep on the emperor's throne. This matter was learned by An Zhonghui, who stayed on duty in Luoyang, the capital. In order to rectify the legal code, An Zhonghui tried his best to mobilize Li Siyuan to bring Li Congcan to justice and treat him equally with ordinary people. In the end Li Congcan was forced to commit suicide. Li Congyi was Li Siyuan's youngest son, who was born in the palace with a silver spoon in his mouth, and was still a baby at this time. Li Siyuan was already sixty years old when he became emperor, and now he is old, his hair and beard are gray, and the days are numbered, and the question of an heir is imminent. But Li Siyuan didn't pay enough attention to this, or he hesitated and hesitated. Zhang Zhaoyuan, the editor of the History Museum of the Later Tang Dynasty, once suggested to Li Siyuan: "The emperor should establish a prince early, choose a decent man with great knowledge as a teacher, teach the prince to understand the principles of general etiquette, understand the principles of safety and danger in the world, and master the ability to govern the government and avoid disasters. " Li Siyuan didn't quite understand the meaning of Editor Zhang's words, he just sighed a few times and didn't take any real action. Time is not forgiving. In 933 A.D., Li Siyuan was sixty-seven years old, and he was considered an advanced age among the people who were born and died, and he had been emperor for a long time. This year, Li Siyuan suddenly had a stroke and became seriously ill. He did not go to court for more than ten consecutive days. The emperor didn't show up, and the ministers didn't know what happened, and they were panicked and at a loss. The common people in Luoyang, the imperial city, had a bad feeling. They lived too many days in fear, and everyone developed a high degree of life sensitivity. If the emperor has an accident, there will be accidents in the world; if there are accidents in the world, the common people will suffer. After years of life and blood training, this logic has long been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and has become an instinctive reaction. Some ordinary people fled to the mountains early with their families. In order to maintain stability, in desperation, Li Siyuan braced his sick body and came to the palace's main hall for half a day to work. He met everyone, waved his hand, and nodded his head, which was considered to appease people's hearts. The stability of the army is the top priority, and the emperor issued an edict to give certain rewards to various soldiers and officials. But after such a comforting bonus was paid out, the court's monthly budget immediately showed a deficit. This also shows that the political situation of the Later Tang Dynasty was not stable, and its financial resources were not yet abundant.Everything is just barely maintaining the situation. After the bonus was paid out, Li Siyuan fell ill again. He didn't eat, drink, pee, and couldn't get up again.Everyone knew that Li Siyuan's remaining days were numbered, and everyone began to plan for their own future.what is the future? The future is the post-Li Siyuan era, how will we live? The assumption for all future planning is who will be the new emperor? This is the biggest deciding factor. So who can be the new emperor?Li Siyuan's son.How many sons does Li Siyuan have?Who can win?Li Congke, King of Lu, Li Congrong, King of Qin, and Li Conghou, King of Song all seemed likely, and only one of the three could succeed. So who could it be?No one knows because the emperor has not appointed a successor until now. The old emperor was about to die, but his successor could not be determined for a long time.what does this mean?Anyone who has survived in the officialdom for a few years knows very well that a bloody storm is inevitable in the struggle for the throne.Since it is a competition, which side should we stand on?No one can see through the current foggy situation.Either side can be wrong.Since the probability of making mistakes and taking risks is so high, it is the safest choice not to stand in line. Find a safe haven, this truth was thought of by several people at the same time. These people are the first-class ministers at the head of the imperial court, the privy envoys Fan Yanguang and Zhao Yanshou. As long as the two of them worked for a day, they had to make a choice on which side to stand on, and there was no room for them to evade in their identities. Therefore, the two first-rank officials thought of leaving the capital at the same time to become officials in other places. Wouldn't it be possible to avoid fighting by taking off their official uniforms? Both Fan Yanguang and Zhao Yanshou submitted their resignations to Emperor Li Siyuan. Li Siyuan understood what was going on at a glance, and his already weak heart was so angry that he cursed: "I am useless as an emperor, you can leave as you want, what else do you ask for instructions!" Fan Yanguang and Zhao Yanshou Being scolded by the emperor came back, but my heart was still uneasy.Although it was terrible to be scolded by the emperor in front of them, saving their lives was more important, so they still insisted on leaving. In the end, the two thought of a way to leave one first, and then leave the other after the newcomer arrived. They think that if this is the case, the emperor will not suspect that they will strike.Zhao Yanshou is a son-in-law, and the harem has backers who have repeatedly helped him to intercede through the back door, so Zhao Yanshou left the capital first.Zhao Yanshou, who came out of the Luoyang city gate, patted his chest, breathed a sigh of relief, and walked away without looking back. After Zhao Yanshou left, Fan Yanguang became even more anxious, moving around, hurrying up to recruit new privy envoys.Li Siyuan ordered Zhu Hongzhao to be transferred to Shannan Dongdao Jiedu envoy to fill the vacancy.Zhu Hongzhao also understood that there was a pit of fire in front of him, so he was reluctant to go to Beijing.Li Siyuan was so angry that his seven orifices were filled with smoke, and all his internal organs were burned. He scolded: "You don't want to work by my side. What's the use of me supporting you?" . Finally, a substitute came, and Fan Yanguang also found an excuse, and he also left the capital within a few days. Later, Li Siyuan transferred Kang Yicheng, an old subordinate, to be the commander of the pro-army and to work with him.Lao Kang couldn't find a substitute, and couldn't get out of the sea of suffering, so he had to continue working. But in order to protect himself, Lao Kang sent his son to work with Qin Wang Li Congrong while he was working for the old emperor.Lao Kang hopes to be on two boats and bet left and right, which seems to reduce the risk. Li Siyuan was ill until November, and he could not go to court behind closed doors.Li Congrong, king of Qin, was young and vigorous, unable to restrain his ambition, and finally couldn't hold it back.He broke into the palace angrily, hoping that Li Siyuan, who was dying, could designate him as his successor.Although there were ministers from Li Congrong's faction who reminded him repeatedly, Li Siyuan didn't say anything.Li Congrong had no choice but to go home. When Li Congrong turned around and walked out of the palace gate, there was a sound of howling in the palace.Li Congrong thought that Li Siyuan had died, so he went home and stayed behind closed doors, waiting for further news and waiting for an opportunity to make a move. But Li Siyuan just fainted, and then regained his breath, spat out a few pieces of flesh like lung leaves, urinated a lot, and drank a big bowl of porridge, and his spirit seemed to be much better.Li Siyuan was fully dressed and ready to be promoted to court. This excited the people around the emperor, thinking that the emperor was in a good condition and the catastrophe was finally over. Li Congrong didn't know about Li Siyuan's return to light, so he waited for news at home and didn't come either. In the end, the boy couldn't hold his breath anymore, he was worried that Li Siyuan had appointed someone else to take over, and he would lose his role.In desperation, Li Congrong impetuously led a thousand troops to the outside of the palace, stationed at the bridge of the moat, observed the movement, and was about to break into the palace and threaten the ministers and the emperor to pass the throne to him. The palace guards found that Li Congrong was rushing towards the palace with his troops, and immediately ran into the inner palace to report to the minister on duty. The minister on duty has long been insane and does not know what to do.On the contrary, the eunuch Meng Hanqiong, who had always relied on flattery and opportunism, stepped forward at this time, claiming to defend the emperor and lead the five hundred palace guards to fight out. The ministers stumbled to ask Li Siyuan for instructions.Li Siyuan did not believe his son rebelled. But this kind of critical moment of life and death does not allow research, research and investigation. The person who has fought bloody battles with his head up all his life only believes in himself at this moment, not even his own parents, let alone a son whose stink of flesh and ambitions have long been exposed.Guaranteeing one's own safety is the most important thing. Mingzong Li Siyuan agreed to kill the imperial guards, and at the same time sent someone to call Lu Wang Li Congke to escort him.In times of crisis, Li Siyuan still thought of his adopted son Li Congke who had been through life and death together. Before Li Congke could arrive, Meng Hanqiong and his men had already rushed out of the palace gate.Li Congrong is completely a donkey dung ball, strong on the outside and hard on the inside. When the Imperial Guards came to kill him, he was so frightened that he peed his pants immediately.Without firing an arrow, he turned around and ran, ran home in one breath and hid under the bed with his wife. For a while, the streets were full of rebellious troops, who couldn't tell the good from the bad, killing and hacking, looting and stealing. When the imperial guards came to Li Congrong's house, there was no way to tell them apart. They dragged Li Congrong and his wife out of the bed, and beheaded them on the spot. When Li Siyuan received the report that Li Congrong had been eliminated, he was angry and heartbroken, coughing violently, convulsing all over his body, and almost fell out of bed.Although the ministers said that Li Congrong rebelled, Li Siyuan still didn't believe that Li Congrong was that bad, after all, he was his own flesh and blood.Once Li Congrong died, it still caused great pain to Li Siyuan. When he was dying, Li Siyuan summoned all the civil and military ministers and announced that his third son Li Conghou would succeed him as emperor after his death. At the same time, he sent Meng Hanqiong to fly to Weizhou to find Song Wang Li Conghou and rushed to Beijing. On November 26, 933 AD, Li Siyuan closed his eyes and passed away after arranging his funeral. On November 29, Li Conghou rushed to the capital. In December, Li Conghou succeeded the emperor in Luoyang at the age of nineteen. Why Li Siyuan hesitated to decide on a successor, hesitating which prince to choose, his true inner feelings are already unknown. We can only roughly compare these princes.Li Congke's ability was well recognized by Li Siyuan, but he was not his own son. In such a major event as the succession of the emperor, Li Siyuan had other selfishness.Li Congrong is close by, with a flamboyant personality, seemingly positive and motivated, but in fact he is ostentatious and impetuous.Li Conghou has a cowardly character, and he likes to read "Taizong Veritable Records", "Spring and Autumn Annals" and other tomes about emperors, but he doesn't get the point. The youngest son is too young to manage the intricate court situation. This may be the main reason why Li Siyuan failed to take care of his affairs.Originally, there was only one soldier, but by chance, Li Siyuan became the emperor. Now that the foundation of the emperor is so great, he can only resign himself to fate. Ugh--.A sigh, really helpless. The news of Li Conghou's ascension to the throne reached Bashu, and Meng Zhixiang sighed: "Li Conghou, king of Song Dynasty, is young, and all the officials in the court are opportunistic villains. Disasters will surely happen soon." Meng Zhixiang saw that Li Siyuan was also dead, and the politics of the Central Plains were dilapidated, so he took off the last fig leaf, and hurriedly ascended the throne as the emperor of Shu while he was still alive. However, Meng Zhixiang's dragon chair was not warm, and he passed away half a year later. After Li Conghou came to the throne, Shouxiao officially went to work at the request of the ministers within a few days. The "three fires" that the new emperor burned when he took office were to reward the central and local army generals and schools, and to distribute bonuses and subsidies to stabilize the morale of the army; The feudal towns and official positions were adjusted and replaced with reliable and trustworthy people to stabilize the Sacred Heart. In this big round of cadre adjustments, among the civil servants are Zuo Servant Feng Dao who was granted the title of Sikong, Li Yu who was given the title of Right Servant She, Liu Xu who was given the title of Minister of the Ministry of Officials, Envoy of Xuanhui South Court, General Hushi, Zuowei The general, Meng Hanqiong, the Minister of Internal Affairs, joined the third division of Yitong, and conferred the honorary title of "Loyalty, Support, and Protection".During the process of Li Conghou ascending to the throne of God, Meng Hanqiong and Feng Dao were the most busy.Meng Hanqiong had the merit of directly escorting Li Conghou to Beijing. Before Li Siyuan's death, several ministers who were the chief assistant were unwilling to work and resigned one after another to avoid disaster. Although Feng Dao was not the top of the hundred officials, at best he ranked outside the third and fourth in the sequence of civil servants. However, because the princes and ministers in the front row are wise and safe, they are timid and fearful.Feng Dao may think that the opportunity has come, and he has led hundreds of officials to show their loyalty to Li Conghou many times. In terms of military generals, moving their nests one by one seems ordinary, but in fact there are hidden secrets.Meng Hanqiong, the envoy of Tianxiong Jiedu who stayed behind in Yedu, was transferred to the capital to serve as envoy of Xuanhui.Fan Yanguang, Chengde Jiedu envoy, was transferred to Weizhou to be Tianxiong Jiedu envoy.Shi Jingtang, who was left behind in Beijing, was transferred to Zhenzhou as Chengde Jiedu envoy. The Fengxiang Jiedu envoy and Lu Wang Li Congke were transferred to Taiyuan and changed to stay in Beijing. He transferred Qianhezhong Jiedushi and foreign king Li Congzhang to Fengxiang and became Fengxiang Jiedushi. These people are all heavyweights. Li Congke is Li Siyuan's godson, Shi Jingtang is Li Siyuan's uncle, Li Congzhang is Li Siyuan's nephew, and Fan Yanguang is the former privy envoy of Li Siyuan's court. We mentioned earlier that when Li Siyuan was dying, he wanted to call Li Congke into the palace to escort him.So why didn't Li Congke come? There are two main reasons for Li Congke's failure to appear in the capital at such an important moment of the emperor's change. One is that Li Congke was far away in Fengxiang and could not rush to Luoyang to rescue him immediately; the other is that Li Congke was unwilling to take the risk of leaving under the uncertain situation Dependent.Li Siyuan did not expect that the crisis of Li Congrong's forced palace would be resolved so quickly. In half a day, several "capable" ministers chirped and killed Li Congrong and his accomplices. The crisis of forcing the palace is temporarily lifted, so there is no need to mobilize Li Congke to Beijing in a hurry. In addition, Li Congke has his own little calculations.Although Li Congke was not by Li Siyuan's side, Li Congke had already sent his wife into the palace to observe the movement in the name of serving Li Siyuan who was seriously ill, and informed Li Congke in time. But Li Congke couldn't wait for the exact news of Li Siyuan's succession, and he didn't even have an attitude or a tendency. Therefore, Li Congke stood still. Not long after, Li Siyuan died and passed the throne to Li Conghou. At this time, the messenger who summoned Li Congke to Beijing arrived at Fengxiang.Li Congke saw that he was out of action, and he was even more unwilling and did not dare to leave the territory easily. So Lu Wang Li Congke repeatedly said that he was ill and could not travel far, could not come to the capital, and could not attend the funeral of his father, Emperor Li Siyuan. After Li Conghou ascended the throne, the two foolish prime ministers left behind by Li Siyuan, Zhu Hongzhao and Feng Yun, still served as officials, went to work, worked, and made decisions in an open manner.Compared with Li Congke and Shi Jingtang, these two guys are far behind in terms of credit, fame, status, and qualifications.Zhu and Feng were originally promoted to this position when no one else was willing to be prime minister. Now that the new emperor has ascended the throne and Li Congrong died unexpectedly, the situation seems to be safe. The two of them feel that the position of prime minister is very comfortable again, and their desire for power has greatly increased. But since there are other people more qualified and influential than them, these two guys always feel uneasy and their positions are not secure. Therefore, Zhu and Feng first wooed the new emperor's cronies and suggested that Meng Hanqiong be transferred to the capital. Then use the new emperor Li Conghou's security crisis psychology to provoke the relationship between Li Conghou, Li Congke and Shi Jingtang, intending to borrow a knife to kill people and bring Li Congke and Shi Jingtang down. After making up their minds, Zhu and Feng immediately collected small materials and clues about Li Congke intensively.First of all, Li Chongji, the eldest son of Li Congke and the commander of the palace's crane control, was pushed out of the palace and transferred to Bozhou as a regiment training envoy. Then Li Congke's daughter was placed under house arrest. Then spread rumors that Li Congke was plotting something wrong. Meng Hanqiong was transferred to the capital, causing a series of personnel changes, the most important of which was the transfer of Lu Wang Li Congke from Fengxiang. For more than a month, Li Congke has been made suspicious and restless by Zhu, Feng and various rumors. On this day, he suddenly received an order to leave Fengxiang and go to Taiyuan. What's more, Li Congzhang, who came to Fengxiang to replace him, was about to take office impatiently.Li Congke was even more annoyed.Because, when Li Congzhang replaced An Zhonghui as Hezhong Jiedushi, he smashed the heads of An Zhonghui and his wife as soon as he took office. This time when Li Congzhang comes to Fengxiang, will he open Li Congke's head as well?Li Congke had a deep dislike for Li Congzhang. No matter what the emperor's younger brother Li Conghou thought, Li Congke couldn't figure out Li Conghou's true thoughts. Anyway, he now felt that there was an ominous sign, and suspected that the court would take this opportunity to kill him. Li Congke couldn't sit still anymore. After staying up all night, Li Congke raised the account by beating drums and called a meeting of his civil and military subordinates. Li Congke cried and asked everyone present: "My son Li Chongji was forced by treacherous officials to stay away from the imperial capital. Although my daughter is a monk, she is still suspected and placed under house arrest. Now the imperial court is forcing me to transfer to Taiyuan. Brothers Ladies, what do you think of this matter? Is it a blessing or a curse?" When Li Congke asked this, it was obvious that she was expressing her dissatisfaction, but she also asked what is a blessing or a curse? Without hesitation, General Fengxiang yelled: "Does it need to be said? It is obvious that the court does not trust the king. The emperor is young and ignorant, and a bunch of treacherous officials are taking power for personal gain. You must not leave the town, once you leave, it will be like Flood dragons leave the water, there are more dangers than dangers. You can't accept the transfer order! Yes, you can't accept the transfer order!" This group of generals who licked their blood and survived hundreds of battles followed Li Congke for twenty years. official. Li Congke looked at Ma Yinsun, the judge, and asked, "This king wants to go to Taiyuan via Luoyang, what do you think is the best way?" How can this be an excuse? Luoyang is to the east and Taiyuan is to the north. How can there be an excuse? In fact, Li Congke had already made up his mind to fight against the imperial court and rebel. But the magistrate was very stubborn, and advised Li Congke: "Your Majesty, the imperial court transferred you to Taiyuan, which is a normal change of defense. There is no doubt about it? Those generals came up with blind ideas and pushed you into the fire pit." After hearing Magistrate Ma's speech shaking his head, everyone booed and sneered. After testing the morale of the army, Li Congke's confidence increased greatly. He slapped the table and announced loudly: "This king wants to clear the king's side." "The side of the Qing emperor" is an allusion from the early Western Han Dynasty. The complete sentence is: "Zhu Chaocuo, the side of the Qing emperor." A group of powerful princes and kings in the Western Han Dynasty used the excuse of cleaning up the treacherous officials around the emperor to raise troops to fight against the central government.Later, the emperor of the Han Dynasty had no choice but to kill his loyal minister Chao Cuo to quell the chaos. This excuse was high-sounding, and was later used as a banner by various loyal and treacherous officials, and it was very popular. Although Fengxiang is a famous feudal town, since the death of Li Maozhen and his son, the strength of the feudal town has been greatly weakened, and it is not what it used to be.Li Congke was determined to raise an army, but his military and financial resources were limited, so he dared not fight alone, and he was guilty of committing crimes. So Li Congke played the banner of eliminating rape and punishing evil, pointed the finger at Zhu and Feng, and blamed Zhu and Feng for secretly manipulating the succession of the throne. Li Congke's proclamation is very powerful. He has made his position clear. He raised troops to help the country eliminate harm, not to rebel.Saying that the succession of the throne had a secret operation, actually vetoed the legitimacy of the new emperor and paved the way for his future succession. He also appealed to the most suspected and excluded officials to assist Li Congke in raising troops. This proclamation is extremely provocative. So can it be incited? The first person not to buy Li Congke's account was his neighbor to the east, Wang Sitong who stayed behind in Chang'an, the western capital. The guy's reason was that he was grateful for the kindness of the old emperor Li Siyuan and could not participate in Li Congke's conspiracy.Wang Sitong didn't have any feelings for the new emperor, and he didn't care about court officials Zhu and Feng, but he didn't want to ruin his reputation. Most of the other feudal towns were not optimistic about Li Congke's future, and did not buy Li Congke's account, so they imprisoned the envoys sent by Fengxiang. There are also some who take a wait-and-see attitude, neither rejecting nor participating, just watching the changes. This situation was beyond Li Congke's expectation, and he gasped, a trace of cold sweat ran from his back to his forehead. Among the generals and princes in Li Siyuan's court, Li Congke was the most powerful.Li Congke fought with Li Siyuan since he was a child. He was brave and good at fighting, and went through life and death. His status in the army was once second only to Li Siyuan.Since Li Congke was the same age as Emperor Zhuangzong Li Cunxu, both of them fought bravely. Li Cunxu loved Li Congke very much and once gave him a high evaluation.Although the young Li Congrong holds military power and holds an important official position, everyone understands that he is ruthless and weak, and he has little ability other than fighting fiercely and bragging.Li Conghou is not only young, but also has nothing to do. Even if he has a false name, he is not as big as Li Congrong.Li Congke thought the same way, he thought he was the best candidate for the throne. He originally thought that with his name and strength, if he raises his arms and shouts, there will be a crowd of responders. But after he finished exhaling, he looked around, and he was still poking there alone. Then why didn't Li Congke get support for raising troops? There could be several reasons.Since Li Cunxu Hu tossed and ruined the throne and ruined his life, Li Siyuan was supported by the rebels and proclaimed himself emperor. In the years of 1978, Li Siyuan stretched his legs and closed his eyes, neither cultivating successors nor designating successors in time, which led to the change of Qin Wang Li Congrong. The civil and military ministers are at a loss for what to do in the post-Li Siyuan era, and most of them hold a wait-and-see attitude to protect themselves, and they are unwilling to wade into this muddy water. It can be said that neither Li Congke, Li Congrong, nor Li Conghou had the opportunity and name to cultivate their own power. The civil and military ministers did not dare to approach any prince rashly. Therefore, when these princes competed for the throne, they basically relied on their own strength, and did not have time to win over the factions of the ruling and opposition parties to join them. Although Li Congke had a lot of seniority, he was beaten and excluded by Li Siyuan's top minister, An Zhonghui, a few years ago, and almost lost his life, and his political career fell into the bottom of the valley.Even though Li Congke came back after An Zhonghui's death, and his rank was promoted, after all, it was only a few years, and his vitality was severely injured, and he had not recovered yet. The road of rebellion is a road of no return. Lu Wang Li Congke gritted his teeth and prepared to go it alone. At this time, a pot of charcoal fire was sent in the ice and snow.Longzhou defense envoy Xiang Lijin took the initiative to send the judge Xue Wenyu to Fengxiang, and Li Congke planned to raise troops. When Li Congke made a move, Li Conghou had no choice but to accept it. Emperor Li Conghou dispatched troops to attack Li Congke, but he found that no one was willing to work for him. At this moment, Kang Yicheng, the commander of the pro-army, should be the most responsible for solving the emperor's worries.Emotionally speaking, the old emperor Li Siyuan trusted Kang Yicheng very much, and once praised Kang Yicheng for his honesty and kindness. In terms of duties, Kang Yicheng holds military power, and the pro-army is the emperor's core force, and he has the responsibility to defend the emperor and the court when life and death are in danger.Lao Kang has not lived a day of peace of mind since he became the pro-military commander. He is in the vortex of political struggle. The new emperor Li Conghou ascended the throne, and now Li Congke has launched a rebellion. Lao Kang's nerves were about to collapse. He was unwilling to choose between the emperor's father and son or the emperor's brothers, and he didn't want to offend either party.Li Conghou ordered the commander-in-chief to attack Li Congke, but Lao Kang refused to go, and recommended Wang Sitong, who stayed in Chang'an, as the commander-in-chief. Li Conghou sighed, and thought to himself: "That's the best thing to do. After I settle this matter, I'll take care of you, you old fritter." The new emperor Li Conghou issued an imperial edict, condemning Li Congke for his treason and rebellion. In the area of Shaanxi Province), the retired governor Chang Congjian served as Marquis Yu of Mabu, with Yin Hui, the commander of the left wing of the Yanwei infantry, and Yang Siquan, the commander of Yulin, as the main generals. In March, An Yanwei, the envoy of the Protector of the Country, offered to join the encirclement and suppression campaign with five envoys of the Shannan West Road, Zhang Qianzhao, Wuding Sun Hanshao, Zhangyi Zhang Congbin, and Jingnan Kangfu, in a joint crusade against Fengxiang. This lineup is not weak at all, and there are many generals who are used to fighting. The southeast, east, northeast, northwest, and court armies are mighty to encircle and suppress Fengxiang. With such a large army under pressure, little Fengxiang is like an egg, it will shatter before touching it. The soldiers and horses of the officers and soldiers arrived at Fengxiang city one after another, and they did not listen to Wang Sitong's dispatch, and each found a position to attack Fengxiang. Fengxiang City was in disrepair for a long time, the moat was almost filled up with silt, and the city walls and watchtowers were dilapidated.Under the onslaught of the officers and soldiers, the east and west outer gates fell, and the defenders inside the city were seriously injured.
Li Congke was very anxious, fidgeting in the commander's mansion, his anxiety was palpable. Things happened unexpectedly. The Fengxiang Army's combat effectiveness is not strong, but the official army also has the shortcomings of the official army. In this battle between Li Congke and the imperial court, the two sides are not fighting for military and financial resources, but are actually fighting for psychology, which is completely a psychological warfare. The official army did not gather in Luoyang first and set out as a complete army, but scattered in various places to encircle and suppress Li Congke in Fengxiang. This style of play must be a dispersion of strength. What's more serious is that although the coach Wang Sitong is loyal, he doesn't have the ability to lead troops to fight, and he knows nothing about the formation of troops. Li Congke, a veteran player in the battlefield, is proficient in various formations, good at attacking and good at defending. The generals under him have Li Congke as the backbone, and they also hope that Li Congke will win the battle and become emperor, so that he can ascend to heaven with chickens and dogs. Therefore, the morale of the Fengxiang army is relatively high, and if they fight their backs, they can only survive if they are put to death. Taking advantage of the rest between the officers and troops attacking the city, Li Congke climbed to the top of the city and launched a powerful psychological counterattack against the officers and troops outside the city. Li Congkesheng is tall, with broad shoulders and thick back, burly and mighty, with a square face and tiger eyes, and a beard.Standing on the top of the city, weeping, he shouted to the officers and soldiers: "Brothers, I haven't seen each other for many years. I didn't expect that we would meet like this at this moment. Let me burn all inside. I think back then, when I was still a boy, I followed the late emperor ( Li Siyuan) conquered east and west, experienced hundreds of battles, went through life and death, almost died, and his whole body was full of wounds." Speaking of this, Li Congke tore off the armor, exposing her arms and chest, and the scars from the wounds were shocking in the sun.
