Chapter 36 6. Inventory

It is said that Duke Zhou reigned for seven years. In the first three years, the rebellion was quelled, in the fourth year feudal princes were established, in the fifth year the Zhou Dynasty was established, in the sixth year rites and music were made, and in the seventh year the government was returned to the king. The system of rites and music is his last work. It's a pity that no one knows what Duke Zhou thinks. What's more, he was not the only one who laid the foundation of China. But it is possible to make an inventory. The clues are also clear. The first is worry, which is "impermanent destiny" and "not easy to be a king".However, even the Zhou people themselves believed that their leadership and representation rights were called "given by heaven", but they were actually "given by the people".Moreover, this spirit can and should be expressed in this way——

The unity of heaven and man belongs to man. Of course, one more sentence must be added: it is a group, a family, and an ethical person. If the group is supreme, we can only "govern the country by virtue."What's more, the establishment of the Huaxia state did not go through the revolution of "blowing up the clan organization", but directly transitioned from the clan and tribe.Xia, Shang and Zhou were all like this. The national alliance established by the Zhou people is even more of a family and country as one.The foundation is the small-scale peasant economy of the well field system; the bond is the blood relationship of the patriarchal system. For such a group, morality and propriety are obviously more suitable and more effective than the law.

The result of the rule of virtue is the rule of men, and the rule of virtue will inevitably become the rule of saints. This is quite in line with the human spirit. So there is "one center", which is the rule of virtue; there are also "two basic points", which are ritual and music.Ritual and music are "powers that can work", and saints are "visible role models".Replacing gods with sages and religion with rites and music will inevitably draw people's attention to the secular society and to the moral norms that can be implemented one by one.Loyalty or not depends on action. The "spirit of reality" arises, which can and should be expressed in this way——

The unity of knowledge and action is practiced in action. I also have to add one more sentence: it is a group, a family, and an ethical behavior. In this way, it is not difficult to understand the "artistic spirit".In fact, art is "to convey the most common emotion in the most unique form".The unique form is fascinating; the common emotion resonates.Resonance means heart-to-heart bond, close bond, unity and friendship, and one heart and one mind.In short, one of the functions of art is "group".It is a characteristic of Chinese art to realize "group consciousness" in a form that is popular to hear and see.

Therefore, the "artistic spirit" of our nation can and should be expressed in this way—— Ritual and music are integrated into music. There is no doubt that the "music" mentioned here refers to music (art) and happiness (aesthetics). But no matter art or aesthetics, and no matter whether the style is gentle and honest, unrestrained, tranquil or unrestrained and elegant, it is all about the group, the country, the ethics, and harmony.Even if there is a dramatic conflict, it is nothing more than the contradiction between loyalty and filial piety, benevolence and righteousness, human affection and kingly law; and unjust cases can always be vindicated, and the ending is sure to be happy.Because we should not only worry about the country and the people, but also enjoy ourselves.

Worry is the starting point, happiness is the destination, and group consciousness is the consistent cultural core. This is the legacy of the Zhou people, the product of their cultural innovation and system innovation: one core (group consciousness), two wings (sorrow, optimism), three spirits (humanity, reality, art), four systems (jingtian , feudalism, patriarchal clan, rites and music), it can be said that it is big, thoughtful, and perfect. In fact, from "the right of kings granted by heaven", to "people-oriented", to "governing the country by virtue"; The system covers many aspects of economy, politics, society and culture. It is no surprise that Chinese civilization is super stable, and it is even more natural to spread its wings and hover.Later, even if foreigners invaded, it was only a flood that washed away the Dragon King Temple.

The people of Zhou may really be the "eldest sons" of the Emperor God. The eldest son is privileged. In the good time of nearly five or six hundred years since then, the gentlemen and ladies of the Zhou Dynasty were young and open-minded, and thus performed a suave and romantic style that could not be copied. That's really "Chinese style".
