When I said that Hu Yaobang was a very important figure in the Central Working Conference, I didn't mean to compare him with Deng Xiaoping, Ye Jianying and other members of the Standing Committee.But I would like to say that without Hu Yaobang, this meeting would not have been as good.But I have some difficulty in stating many specific facts.Because there are many things he does that I can't see.He was very busy during the meeting.He is the convener of the Northwest Group, but he "asked for leave" a lot during the meetings of the Northwest Group, and the other three presided over the meetings more often.The number of times he spoke in the breakout sessions was only three times, but the content of each speech was very important.His words are not long, but the content is wonderful.Of course, he made up his mind on many important actions of the Northwest Group.Our Northwest Group had a lot of ideas, such as the "twelve-point proposal" that everyone raised their hands to pass, and a comprehensive briefing signed by four conveners after the closing meeting. These things all had his ideas.

Being the convener of the Northwest Group is only one of his tasks at the meeting, and he is busy with many other things.His position is the head of the Central Organization Department, and it was in this capacity that he was notified to participate in the Central Work Conference.At this meeting, he pointedly and systematically raised the issue of the Central Task Force, which was a matter of particular concern to him as the head of the Central Organization Department.At that time, he also served as the vice president of the Central Party School.However, Hu Yaobang did not work as the person in charge of a certain unit at the Central Working Conference. Although he did not have a name at the meeting, he certainly did not directly participate in the activities of the Standing Committee.I don't know what kind of process he went through, but he participated in the organization of this meeting, the contact work between the Central Standing Committee and various groups.

Hu Yaobang and I were the same age, both 63 years old at the time.I am more than four months older than him.He turned 63 during this session.At that time, he was still young, so he was not afraid of the stress of work.According to what Hu Deping once told me, Hu Yaobang once told him that he was extremely busy during that time.During the meeting, Jingxi Hotel arranged many entertainment activities at night, such as organizing a dance party, but he never went there once.There were many movie screenings in the evening, and he only watched it once, and it was related to his work (Hu Deping also told me that Hu Yaobang told him that he had several conversations with me during the meeting).But he doesn't make many appearances in this meeting.I can't say many specific things because of this reason.

Of course, I still know some things that other people don't necessarily know.For example, I know that Ye Jianying’s speech was drafted by him, and this draft later became the basis of Ye Jianying’s closing speech.When Deng Xiaoping returned from his visit to several countries in Southeast Asia, he asked me to find another person to draft his speech, and it was Hu Yaobang who contacted me.When Deng Xiaoping finalized the manuscript himself, Hu Yaobang also participated.When Hua Guofeng wanted to write a speech for the closing session of the Third Plenary Session, he asked Hu Yaobang and several others to prepare it.This point was stated by Hu Yaobang at a Politburo meeting on November 19, 1980.Regarding Hua Guofeng’s speech at the closing meeting of the Central Working Conference, I don’t know whether Hu Yaobang played a role, but whether the agricultural documents will be processed at the Central Working Conference, Hua Guofeng can’t make up his mind, Hu Yaobang and others helped him I made up my mind to do it.
