In November, bid farewell to Puji Temple, first from Puji Mountain to Yongchun Taoyuan Hall, and then take a boat to Hongmei Lingying Temple in Nan'an, accompanied by Master Chuanguan and others on the way. That month, on the 16th, Pan Beishan and Lin Gaohuai, principals of county primary schools in Jinjiang, Nan'an, went to Lingying Temple to ask for verses, and asked the master about the hard life of teachers and whether they could change their careers.The master said: "Elementary school is the foundation of cultivating talents, which is of great importance to the country and the nation. Although primary school teachers are too poor at present, they have noble personalities and cannot easily change their careers." The principals have learned a lot from hearing this.Later, the master wrote and presented the "Avatamsaka Sutra" to a teacher: "I don't seek happiness for myself, but I hope that all sentient beings will be free from suffering."

It was the month when I wrote the article "Shou Baguan Fasting Law" at Lingying Temple in Nan'an. In January 1941, he continued to stay in Lingying Temple in Nan'an. In February, hemorrhoids broke out and he was still stranded in Nan'an. In April, after the Buddha's birthday, it was the 80th birthday of the late master's mother, and the master chanted sutras and prayed for her mother all day long. In May, at the invitation of Fulin Temple in Tanlin Township, Master Chuan Guan and Master Xingchang went to Fulin Temple by land to "reside in summer".

During the three-month summer ending period, the master preached the Vinaya to the monks and gave a lecture titled "A Brief Description of the Great Virtue of Master Yinguang". "Evening Sunshine Collection". In autumn, at the invitation of overseas Chinese Buddhists in the Philippines, he planned to go to the Philippines to promote Buddhism. Because the Pacific War was about to start, the situation was dangerous.Since then, he has lived in Gulangyu Island, Xiamen. In November, due to the sincere invitation of Quanzhou Buddhist circles, I went to Quanzhou again, first to live in Baiyuan Temple, and then in Chengtian Temple.

In December, return to Fulin Temple.On the 9th, the compilation of "Analysis of Doubts from the Pharmacist's Classics" was completed. In February 1942, he wanted to retreat in Fulin Temple, but failed due to various reasons. In March, Shi Youji, a student of the master when he was teaching in the First Zhejiang Normal University, was transferred from Anxi County to be the county magistrate of Hui'an County. Zeng Ciyuan sent Zeng Ciyuan to Fulin Temple in Jinjiang to invite the master to give lectures on Lingduan Mountain in Hui'an. The master made three chapters with him "No welcome, no delivery, no fasting." Then he went to Hui'an to give lectures for a month.

Due to his aging body, it was impossible to go to Fulin Temple for retreat, so he lived in Baiyuan Temple in Quanzhou. In the spring of that year, Guo Moruo, a famous writer, entrusted someone to ask the master for words, and wrote Hanshan's poem: "My heart is like the bright moon, and the blue pool is clear and clean; there is nothing comparable to Lun, teach me how to say it." At the end of the book, "Moruo layman Clear view".At the end of the book, Li Fangyuan entrusted Guo Moruo with a gift.

In May, at the request of Layman Ye Qingyan and members of the Wenling Nursing Home, he moved to the "Wanqing Room" of the Wenling Nursing Home at Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou.Master Miaolian replaced Master Chuanguan as a servant of Master Hongyi. He was the last attendant of the master, and the master entrusted him with all matters before his death. Here, the master wrote the article "Those who hold the precept of eating at untimely times should pay attention to the time of day", which specifically defined the time of "not eating after noon".Later, he wrote "The Story of Building the Garden of Freeing Life" for Changqing Temple in Qiashan, Fuzhou, which is the last posthumous work of the master.

In July, wrote an inscription for Li Fangyuan's first collection of poems, "The First Collection of Dafang Guangbao's Poems". In September, on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, he lectured on the "Eight Masters' Enlightenment Sutra" and "Pure Land Method Essentials" in the Zunsheng Temple of Kaiyuan Temple, and was translated into Hokkien by Master Guangyi.This is the last lecture activity of the master in his life. On the 2nd day of October, at the request of Zhuandao and Zhuanfeng's second master, he wrote the column couplets on the main hall for him. Due to overwork, his old illness broke out.On the third day after the illness, he wrote many pieces of calligraphy for the high school students of Jinjiang Middle School.On the 6th, a hunger strike was announced.Refusal of medical treatment.Afterwards, the master dictated the will, which was recorded by Master Miaolian:

"Before my death, as well as after my life and after my death, Master Miaolian will be responsible for all my affairs, and no one else will be used to premonitory." And stamped the seal on the back of the article. For the next two days, the master recited "Amitabha Buddha" silently every day. On October 10, in the morning, he gave a police training to Master Huang Fuhai Shuyi.In the afternoon, the four characters of the book "Intersection of Sorrow and Joy" were delivered to Master Miaolian, which was the final writing of Master Hongyi.

On October 13th, Master Miaolian was commissioned to send the pre-written will to Liu Zhiping.On that day, Master Miaolian was also entrusted to send pre-written farewell letters to Xia Zun, Liu Zhiping, and Master Xingyuan. At 8:00 p.m. on the fourth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar, Master Hongyi passed away peacefully in Wenling Nursing Home, Quanzhou, amidst the chanting by Master Miaolian and others. Seven days after the master passed away, he was cremated in Chengtian Temple, Quanzhou. In 1952, Master Hongyi's ashes and relics were used to build pagodas in Amitabha Rock, Qingyuan Mountain, Quanzhou, and Hupao Temple, Hangzhou, respectively. The latter was built with funds donated by Feng Zikai, Ye Shengtao and others.
