Chapter 28 Part 2: "A Thousand Miles Against the Wind" Revision Review Wins Applause for the First Time

The film began in mid-1963 and ended on the eve of the "Cultural Revolution" movement in May 1966, which lasted for more than three years. However, during the shooting of the film, the interference encountered in various aspects is indescribable in words. At that time, due to the shortage of film film after the deterioration of relations with the Soviet Union, the film crew had to be temporarily disbanded. Secondly, due to the need to travel to more than a dozen locations where the story took place, the cycle increased. The most important thing is that it was seriously affected by the political trend, and many samples that had already been filmed were ordered to be revised, reshot, and cut. The language, expressions, and movements of the characters were all groundlessly accused by many parties. There are many scenes in which the actors have performed very well, but it is difficult to resist the relentless impact of political pressure. For example, when the character Zhao Jinzhang was assassinated and dying, he said to Jin and Gu that he was so big. A lengthy line, obviously for the needs of the political movement at that time, was forcibly added to the mouth of a character more than 40 years ago, giving people a very obvious sense of bluntness, which made the famous actor Shi feel deeply. Painful, but irresistible; and another scene shows that the fourth son Yang Rukuan is full of longing and pure fantasy for his lover Liu Fen, reciting the poem "Life is precious, love is more expensive" by the famous Hungarian poet Petofi Gao, if it's for freedom, both can be thrown away", but it was accused of being a "petty bourgeois tune", and after finishing the book, it was forced to lip-synch, and another line was added that was blunt and full of revolutionary meaning The words: "If I die on the battlefield, don't be sad for me. Today's songs shed blood, and in the future red flowers will be everywhere." Although it fits the plot, it makes the plot much inferior.Among the extremely limited number of films produced at the same time, this film was the first to painstakingly add a passage of Mao Zedong's words at the beginning, that is, the popular "Quotations from Chairman Mao" after the "Cultural Revolution" was about to begin-"Revolutionary or Non-revolutionary or counter-revolutionary intellectuals, to see if they take the road of integration with workers and peasants. Mao Zedong.” A self-defeating illustration of a political theme that artificially abandons art.In this way, repeated tossing and endless repairs on the film on the editing table caused a lot of waste. In the film production and production at that time, it created one of the longest filming cycles, the most revisions, and the most reviews. most.

In 1964, the film was partially completed and sent to the leading authority for review. Tao Zhu, the first secretary of the Central South Bureau, first affirmed the film, and pointed out that some of the plots were unreasonable and did not conform to the historical situation at that time, and demanded that the film be improved.According to his instructions, some samples of this film were given to Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, Luo Ruiqing and other leading comrades, as well as some old comrades who participated in the work during the Great Revolution, so that they could offer their valuable opinions. For this reason, Tao Zhu visited Pearl Film Studio twice in person, and had detailed discussions with the film's director, actors, and main creative personnel. After the film's revision plan was approved by the factory party committee, it was submitted to Tao Zhu again. In 1965, Tao Zhu made a special trip to invite Chen Yi, Zhang Jichun, Hu Yaobang, Wang Zhen and other leading comrades to the Pearl Film Studio to watch the film, which won everyone's unanimous approval. At the beginning of 1966, the film was shot and revised according to Tao Zhu's specific opinions.Tao Zhu specially invited Chen Yi, He Long, Ye Jianying, Xu Xiangqian and other leading comrades to come to Zhuying Studio to watch, and asked them to review and express their opinions. After watching these highly respected old leaders, they walked out of the screening room with smiles on their faces. When they were descending the steps in front of the technical building, Tao Zhu asked everyone with a smile: "Look, is this film okay?" Comrade Chen Yi said at that time He raised his hands and said boldly: "I agree with both hands!" Afterwards, Tao Zhu and Chen Yi continued to exchange opinions on the film. They believed that some scenes were not perfect in the details, and put forward some revision suggestions for the director's reference. .

However, following the "Cultural Revolution" movement, Tao Zhu was overthrown, and the "manipulators behind the scenes" of the film were found out. An ordinary film was launched and quickly escalated, and it became a major case in the political movement. With ulterior motives and painstaking efforts, the name of the character "Jin Gongshou" must be said to be a metaphor for Tao Zhu, because in the previous script creation, the author once called the male protagonist's name "Gong Jinshou". After reading the script, I kindly put forward my opinion: there is no surname "gong" among the hundreds of surnames in China. Besides, it is called "husband" in the south. "Husband" refers to the woman's pet name for her husband. Naturally, it sounds very inappropriate, even if it is called by the same man, it sounds very unpleasant, why not just reverse the two words before and after. The author readily adopted Xia Yan's opinion, so "Gong Jin Shou" became "Jin Gong Shou".But unexpectedly, the name of this apolitical character in the play unexpectedly caused trouble at this time.Considering that the dialogue of the entire film has been completed, the director hastened to change the name to "Jin Gongshou" as a last resort. That is "gold", "gong" means "gong", "shou" and "shou" are exactly the same, the words "shou" and "gong" are put together to mean "casting", and then the two characters are reversed, that is It is "Zhu Gong", so the prototype of the male protagonist alludes to "Tao Zhu".This absurd, ridiculous and far-fetched statement turned into a catastrophe in the world during the "Cultural Revolution".As one of the photographers of this film, Yao Shiquan, a senior and well-known photographer, started his career as early as the 1930s. His black-and-white contrast photography with light is a masterpiece, but he was labeled as "thirty and forty" during the "Cultural Revolution" storm. He also wanted to investigate his so-called historical issues. Finally, because Yao Shiquan couldn't bear the personal insult, he committed suicide by cutting his wrists in the sugarcane field outside the factory, and his name was ruthlessly crossed out from the photography list. .
