Liang Sicheng quickly organized personnel, and in the shortest time, compiled the "Brief Catalog of National Important Cultural Relics and Buildings". In this thick manual, Liang Sicheng added four circles under the entries of ancient buildings such as the Forbidden City, Dunhuang, Yungang, Longmen, and Confucius Temple, which everyone jokingly called "four-star generals", followed by three circles. , two circles, and one circle. There are more than 450 articles in the whole book, and nearly 200 articles are highlighted. Each entry is accompanied by the detailed location of the cultural relic building, the nature of the cultural relic, the age of construction and reconstruction, as well as its significance and value.

Lin Huiyin reviewed the entries in the whole book one by one, and specially reminded in the description on the title page: "The main purpose of this brief list is for the People's Liberation Army to fight and take over and protect cultural relics." The "Jianmu" was distributed to the vast number of commanders and fighters who liberated the whole of China, and together with the military map, it became a must-have for their operations. This can be regarded as the earliest cultural relics protection initiative of the Communist Party of China, and it is also the earliest campaign to popularize knowledge about cultural relics protection.

For the first time, the soldiers who have fought north and south for many years, covered with bullet marks and dust, connected the battle they commanded with cultural relics and culture, and their pride as victors and conquerors arose spontaneously. Many years later, some of them have held high positions and traveled all over the world. But when they think back to the war years of "golden horses and iron horses, swallowing thousands of miles like tigers", they will also fondly recall the "historical sites" preserved under their own guns somewhere. After the liberation of the whole country, this booklet was revised and became the "National Key Cultural Relics Protection Catalogue", which was promulgated by the State Council. It provides guidance and basis for the investigation, protection and research of cultural relics and buildings across the country.
