Chapter 18 CHAPTER VIII Innertown and the University of Leipzig

In Yinnei Town, we lived a very happy life.Inner Town is the hometown of Goethe.It is a small university town, and like Heidelberg, it is a town with quite ancient customs.The town's activities centered around the students in the club, and their landlady, the students' outings, going out to watch duels, and so on.Their homework is the scars left by the wounds on the skin. Dr. Conrady thought he was quite proud to have a colleague like me from Peking University, so he warmly welcomed me.The Chinese books of the China Research Office are really overwhelming.I was also able to borrow Chinese books from Berlin.It was then that I began to seriously study Chinese phonology.Soon, I was obsessed with "Sinology Master Cheng Ji", "Huang Qing Jing Jie", especially "Huang Qing Jing Jie Sequel", which were all inscribed by Ruan Yuan, a scholar of Ye Tiren Pavilion in the late Qing Dynasty.It was only then that I got acquainted with the textual research and annotation works of various famous authors, including Gaoyou Wang's father and son, Duan Yucai, and Gu Yanwu.In a nutshell, the academic trend of the entire Qing Dynasty turned against the philosophical research of the Ming Dynasty, and returned to the textual research of the Han Dynasty, and believed in modern texts and opposed ancient texts in the classics, which caused an uproar in the study of Chinese classics.It has also caused controversy over apocryphal scriptures since the Tang Dynasty, such as based on "Mao Shi" and "Zuo Zhuan".According to Western linguistics, it is very arbitrary to think that only one version is correct.In the early Han Dynasty, after the Qin banned the classics, many versions must have been unearthed.Zhang Taiyan, a master of Chinese studies, still believes that the classic ancient texts are authentic.Qian Mu once wrote a long article proving that calling for "falsified" classics is the hearsay of literati who refuse to read Hanshu carefully.This kind of heresy is even worse today, and even Liang Qichao does not believe that there is such a person as Lao Tzu.Hu Shizhi believed that the last forty chapters of Dream of the Red Chamber were forged.Kang Youwei can be regarded as the most daring person in this kind of suspicion and forgery. He actually said that the six classics were all forged by Confucius, so he wrote "Xin Xue False Classics".I am very fortunate not to be swayed by it.It is believed that the first seven chapters were really written by Zhuangzi, and the remaining chapters are suspected to be fake works, but it is not explained if they were not written by Zhuangzi, who wrote "Autumn Water", "Horseshoe", and "Fu Cai"?Proving the authenticity of ancient books requires more careful research, so that they can meet the standards of Western linguistics.Gao Benhan (Bernhard Harlgren)'s "Zuo Faxing Pseudo-examination" is an example of the application of modern methods.
