Chapter 39 "Fetion", the "Fetion" that catches up from behind by passive supplementary lessons

For a long time, instant messaging has been one of the most intensely competitive fields among SPs (service providers), and mobile QQ and mobile MSN have won a huge market among mobile phone users; however, with China Mobile's IM software "Fetion" The launch of the domestic wireless IM market may face a round of "reshuffle". In 2006, China Mobile began public testing of "Fetion". "Fetion" is an IM software launched by China Mobile, and its functions are very similar to QQ and MSN.In addition to the basic functions of chat software, users can also log in through multiple terminals such as PC, WAP, and mobile phones at the same time. The service also provides a speed-dating function, which is convenient for users to find and add friends, but this requires registration of the "Fetion Dating Friends" service support. In addition, Fetion can also realize the transmission of MP3, pictures and Office files between mobile phones and computers, and can provide "voice chat" services. The maximum number of participants in a voice chat is 8 people, and the caller and called party will be charged the same fee, among which the rate is 0.25 yuan/minute from 8:00-18:00; 0.15 yuan/minute from 18:00-8:00 the next day, and the roaming rate 0.5 yuan/minute.Industry insiders pointed out that China Mobile's ambition to seize the leading position in the IM market is obvious.

In June 2006, China Mobile issued a notice to stop cooperating with various IM SP services.According to the notice, starting from June 1, there will be no new chat community-type Monternet services in each Monternet business line (SMS, MMS, WAP, etc.), and the existing chat community-type Monternet services will no longer be compatible with this type of business. Carry out any form of marketing cooperation. For the existing IM business, China Mobile has also given a transition period.Industry analysts: With the launch of "Fetion", it will inevitably pose a huge threat to IM providers such as Tencent QQ. The ultimate goal of China Mobile is not to completely occupy this market, but to make itself a dominant player in the domestic wireless IM industry chain status.

In just over a year, "Fetion" replaced MSN and became the second child in the domestic instant messaging market.Analysys International’s 2008 second quarter instant messaging market quarterly monitoring report shows that active accounts in China’s instant messaging market reached 426 million, a year-on-year increase of 13%. With a share of 80.2%, MSN slipped to third place with a share of 4.1%, and China Mobile Fetion quickly rose to second place. The report shows that the instant messaging market continues to show rapid and steady growth, stimulated by the surge in the number of Chinese Internet users.Through platform integration, instant messaging service providers can not only implement basic text, voice and video chat functions, but also directly implement network applications such as news information acquisition, online game entertainment, and e-commerce from the client. In the past, these needs were obtained by visiting web pages, which is another reason for the rapid development of instant messaging.

According to analysts, MSN users have high stickiness, but its recent focus is to expand the target user population and focus on the campus market. In terms of actual effect, the new strategy did not bring expected growth. In the second quarter, the growth rate of MSN active accounts was only 6%, which was lower than the 8% growth rate of the overall market.Regarding the decline of MSN's market share in China, industry insiders point out that instant messaging has developed from simply competing in the number of registered users in the early stage to expanding service scale and improving service quality, while MSN lacks localized operations and targeted function improvements. Its lack of stability and weak anti-virus capabilities often plague users, causing its share to decline instead of rising.

At one time, NetEase brought Paobao, Sina sandwiched UC, Sohu's SoQ, Shanda, Jinshan... challenged Ma Huateng together, but Ma Huateng only said, "I am not afraid of anyone except MSN."
