He said, "Since I have been the president of Peking University, I hope to do it for ten or eight years in order to make some achievements. Otherwise, I will be sorry for Peking University and myself." Make Peking University a university with international status."

On December 17, 1948, which was the 50th anniversary of the founding of Peking University and Hu Shi’s 57th birthday, at the commemorative meeting of Peking University in the “Academia Sinica” in Nanjing, Hu Shi delivered a speech: “I never dreamed that I would meet you here today, I am a deserter who abandoned my job, and I have no face to speak here." "According to the 'University Organization Law', the president of a national university is not allowed to concurrently serve as a paid post. Now I am still the president of the National Peking University. Due to the current situation, I cannot resign at this time. So please, sir, resign from the Presidential Palace on my behalf. Name and salary. I also ask my husband to take back the letter of appointment on my behalf, and I beg him not to publish this matter, so as to avoid unnecessary speculation and rumors in the press. Tomorrow night, I will go to Shanghai for a short stay with President Mei in the same car. I am here to say goodbye. I am afraid we will not be able to see each other. Therefore, I am sending this letter to Mr., begging him to remember my sincerity and to dismiss this matter for me. Thank you very much! "

Jiao saw an announcement published by Mei Yiqi in the newspaper in prison, and knew that Hu Shi had a public announcement the next day. After giving a speech, he called Mei, and it happened that Hu Shi was also at Mei Yiqi's place. Li Ao claimed to have received support from Hu Shi when he was in difficulty, and praised Hu Shi all his life.During his visit to Peking University during his "2005 Mainland Cultural Journey", Li Ao donated money to Peking University in hopes of erecting a bronze statue of Hu Shi.

Hu Sidu made it clear that he would not fly south with his parents, but would stay with his relatives temporarily and decide what to do after seeing the development of the situation.Hu Shi had no choice but to comply with the wishes of his son, whom he called "Little San".Unexpectedly, we never saw each other again.Until Hu Shi's death, he did not know that Hu Sidu, the junior who stayed in the mainland and later claimed to have severed his father-son relationship with him, had committed suicide in 1957 during a political movement. In his later years, Hu Shi actually left a small inheritance for his youngest son in his will.
