Cai Yuanpei and Mrs. Zhou Jun had one daughter and two sons, both born in Shanghai. The eldest daughter is Sui An, the second son is Huai Xin, and the third son is Ying Duo.Cai Yuanpei has deep meaning in naming his children. When the eldest daughter was born, there was a school named Joan Dac run by the French Catholic Church opposite the house.Translated by Joan Duc, Joan of Arc is a French national heroine who was burned and sacrificed heroically because she fought against the British invaders.Cai Yuanpei took the word "脺阿" from "Mencius" in the sentence "脺然见在面,脺重" in "Mencius", which is homonymous with "Ruo'an", hoping that the eldest daughter can learn from the heroine. The name Huaixin comes from Tao Yuanming's poem "A good seedling also has a new heart".Yingduo's name comes from the Chinese saying "his person is Lei Jie and Yingduo".

Cai Yuanpei is a gentle elder who treats his young children like close friends. In 1935, when he went to Nanjing for a meeting, Cai Yuanpei wrote in a letter from his family: "Every one of you gave me a painting, which is very precious to me. I wish you a lively and progressive life, just like the Asahi and flowers painted by Anger; Yi, is the same as the airplanes and buildings painted by Xiner; I wish you health and beauty, just like the horses painted by Duoer." Cai Yuanpei firmly believes that aesthetic education can cultivate people's noble sentiments and cultivate good morals, and he will definitely encourage children's hobbies.Cai Suian loved music since she was a child, and Cai Yuanpei and his wife asked her to learn piano at the home of a Russian female teacher; there was no piano at home at that time, so she usually went to Mr. Ding Xielin's home to practice piano. After arriving in Hong Kong, Mrs. Zhou Jun bought an old piano for HK$50.Huaixin was good at painting and calligraphy, so Cai Yuanpei asked Huaixin to practice calligraphy on the stele of Wei Dynasty.Yingduo loves painting, especially horses. He once drew a painting according to Lu You's poem "The man who rides a donkey in the drizzle at Jianmen". Cai Yuanpei admired it very much. He showed his painting to Mr. Liu Haisu and asked him: "Do you think my youngest son is a bit talented?" In 1937, Cai Yuanpei went to a meeting in Nanjing to buy back three exquisite commemorative books, and wrote inscriptions to express his hope. The inscription for Suang is: "The wise do not confuse, the benevolent do not worry, and the brave do not fear." The inscription for Huaixin reads: "Wealth and honor cannot be promiscuous, poverty and lowliness cannot be moved, and might cannot be subdued." The inscription for Yingduo is: "Easy to learn It is close to wisdom, hard work is close to benevolence, knowing shame is close to courage."
