After the Li Gongpu and Wen Yiduo murders happened in 1946, Liang Shuming, as the core figure of the Democratic League, publicly declared at the rally: "Secret agents, do you still have a third bullet? I am here waiting for it!" He published " "A Conversation by the Secretary-General of the China Democratic League", and said: "I will yell 'cancel the spy' a hundred times in a row!" On October 10, 1946, Liang Shuming went from Nanjing to Shanghai to meet Zhou Enlai and urged him to return to Nanjing to continue the peace talks. On the night train on the 11th, Liang returned to Nanjing from Shanghai, and arrived in Nanjing early the next morning. When he got off the bus, he saw the news that Zhangjiakou had been captured by the national army. This phrase was widely used by the media for a while, and became a classic discourse denouncing Chiang Kai-shek's treachery.

In mid-September 1953, Liang Shuming attended the enlarged meeting of the central government and made a speech at the invitation of Zhou Enlai. On the afternoon of the 11th, Liang Shuming made an impromptu speech focusing on the farmers' issues, calling for a "benevolent government" for the farmers. It is pointed out that "if our nation-building movement ignores or omits the majority of the Chinese people-peasants, it is inappropriate."Unexpectedly, this speech aroused Mao Zedong's great dissatisfaction, and Liang Shuming was reprimanded, leading to an embarrassing situation of "court disputes and confrontations".
