In order to keep warm, his family wanted to buy him a hat, but they couldn't find a large hat that he could wear after traveling all over Hangzhou. In 1903, Ma Yifu suffered from the pain of losing his father and wife, and traveled abroad, first to the United States and then to Europe. Before he went abroad, he had heard that Marx had written Das Kapital, which was impossible to see in China at the time, so he paid attention to it as soon as he arrived in the United States. One day, he was suffering from a cold, so he went to "John's Bookstore" to look for books and periodicals. He actually bought a long-awaited English translation of Marx's "Das Kapital". He was overjoyed, as if he had found a treasure. He wrote in his diary: "Yesterday, I took all kinds of medicines, a piece of bread, and half a cup of rice, and I didn't feel like or dislike. When I came late, the pain in my face was slightly relieved. When I got up early, it was amazing. In the afternoon, I got Ying A translated version of Magus' Capital Theory. I've been looking for this book for half a year, and now I'm getting it. Hurry up! Hurry up! It's better than taking ten doses of immortal medicine! I'm sure I'm going to lose my illness!"

When he returned to China, Ma Yifu bought another German edition. As a result, the English edition was given to his good friend Mr. Xie Wuliang, and the German edition was given to the collection of the "Rotary Club of Chinese Studies" in Shanghai. He also suggested that it be translated and published, so Some people say that he is the "first person" who introduced the original "Das Kapital" into China. The "Rotary Club of Chinese Studies" in Shanghai disintegrated, and the books were scattered. The "Das Kapital" presented by Ma Yifu was lost in Shanghai bookstores and was not known by people. The bookstall found this strange book and Ma Yifu’s inscription after reading the book, so he redeemed it and donated it to Mr. Ma Yifu, returning it to the original owner, which is appropriate.Later, during the Anti-Japanese War, Mr. Ma Yifu went to Zhejiang University to teach, so he donated this book to the library; after the liberation, the institutions were adjusted, Zhejiang University was separated, and most of the liberal arts books were collected by Hangzhou University. Tang Shouqian saw that his son-in-law had returned from a study tour in Europe and America.Unexpectedly, Ma Yifu tore the drawing in half after looking at it. "Why is this?" The staff members were shocked and asked why.Ma Yifu said: "China's man-made railway should be for the sake of the Chinese. Why not set the terminal near the northern end of the downtown area of Yangshi Street, and then build a line to Nanxing Bridge for the connection of water and land and the future extension of the railway to the south. Set at Genshan Gate, how about laying a branch line to the Gongchen Bridge Concession to facilitate the Japanese?” Tang Shouqian felt that his words were reasonable, not only did not think it was rude for Ma Yifu to tear up the blueprint, but also changed Genshan Gate into a freight station according to his plan. A terminal station was built at the northern end of Yangshi Street, which is today's Hangzhou City Station.

During the Anti-Japanese War, Ma Yifu gave the only university lecture in his life at Zhejiang University. His course time is also very special, not according to the regular week, but fixed on the 5th, 15th, and 25th of each month, rain or shine.Because "five" is the number of "Huangji" in "Shangshu·Hong Fan", Ma Yifu thought it could embody the meaning of the mean in Confucianism. One semester later, the flames of war spread to northern Jiangxi, Zhejiang University moved to Yishan, Guangxi, and Ma Yifu continued his lectures in Yishan for a semester.Later, the lecture notes of these two semesters were compiled into "Taihe Yishan Huiyu" and published, which influenced several generations of scholars.

What these people mean is that Ma Yifu is not willing to meet anyone. No, he still sees you! As a last resort, I wrote a letter and attached a book, and went directly to Ma Yifu. I was very angry when I didn’t hear from him for a long time.... Finally, one day, Ma Yifu came. I said, I I wrote you a letter, why didn't you reply? Ma said: "If you only have one letter, I can write a reply. But you have a book attached, and I must read your book before replying. You see, I am now Didn't you come?'"
